  • My son was born in July '76. He's my "Bicentennial Baby".

  • lyric's by Arlo Guthrie

    Lyric's :

Living now here but for fortune

    Placed by fate's mysterious schemes

Who'd believe that we're the ones asked

To try to rekindle the patriot's dreams

    continued on next post

  • Arise sweet destiny, time runs short

All of your patience has heard their retort

Hear us now for alone we can't seem

To try to rekindle the patriot's dreams

    continued on next post

  • Can you hear the words being whispered

    All along the American stream

Tyrants freed the just are imprisoned

Try to rekindle the patriot's dreams

Ah but perhaps too much is being asked of too few

You and your children with nothing to do

Hear us now for alone we can't seem

To try to rekindle the patriot's dreams

  • thank you for the wonderful video :)

  • This Folk Slinger, as he calls himself, is much more than what he seems to be. He, resembles, in my mind, what the Lamb, from 2000 years ago would be today. That is not quite what so many have made the Lamb out to be.

  • I saw Ford in 76 at the Bridge.

  • That's a wonderful song. Arlo's my hero, really hope I get the chance to see him live one day.

  • The song of the decade. I love the Jennifer Warnes version with the bagpipes evoking every fireman's funeral in New York following 9/11

  • I first heard this song on the radio a few weeks ago, and it hit me like a brick upside the head. I was born in 1947, like Arlo, and lately have been reflecting on my life and my generation. Sometimes I think that the worst thing our counterculture did was to degrade patriotism as a virtue, and now it is regarded as the sole preserve of the right-wing nutcases.

  • OMG! Thanks for posting the vid...just watched a video of Paul Moyers' speech where he read The Patriot's Dream. The song is just what we need these days, I'm glad Mr. Guthrie has re-recorded/re-issued a CD with this beautiful song. Thanks again.

  • i liked this video :)

    just moved new area pq

  • Any chance of posting the lyrics?

    I'm not dissing your recording

    (thanks for posting it!)

but between my old ears and this tiny speaker

I just can't make them out..

  • Of course I will, this sound on this is awful. I'm working on "Patriot's Dream" with the sound track from Arlo's CD titled "In Times Like These" with the Kentucky Orchestra. It is so beautiful.

    Thanks for asking.

  • That'll be great.

    Thanks very much.

And thanks for your work in keeping Arlo

and his message of peace and love in the public eye.

  • I love that CD. I got it at the concert in the opera house in stoughton. Arlo is amazing as it is but having the orchestra playing with him is just so amazing. I haven't been able to stop listening to the CD since. Thank you for stopping in Wisconsin. That was the beginning of one of the best weekends in my life. I was fortunate enough that my Uncle got the front row center ticket for me. So I say again thank you; I was able to see one of the best artists in the history of music.

  • The national treasure, Bill Moyers, just quoted this song in his incredible speech at the National Conference for Media Reform. Great song for the times. Expect this one to get many more hits in the coming days. Thanks Arlo, you done Woody proud.

  • This is such a great, great song from Amigo, one of my favorite albums of all time. Is 'Victor Jara' out there somewhere? Such an amazing album. It's gotta be 30 years old and it's still one I play every month or so.

  • i like your song.

  • no pity 72, just want to make it real and move on.thanks for what you said.

  • cherokee needs to get off his little pity pot and learn to move on. World history is absolutely littered with awful atrocities done to many people for stupid reasons. That doesn't mean we don't live learn and move on.

  • I do not mean to be hard, but one who calls Arlo Guthrie A God,his people came to Oklahoma to take from my people what they could cheat us out of, and fell on hard times is a GOD? nesh nagee ungela.

  • Aren't we all a little part of god,I wonder if we will ever learn..

  • One good atrocity deserves another? Move into the future.....learn from the past.

  • You white people, well some think you have it all together, we as Indin people tried your peace deal, did not work out too well for us,good luck, just dont give away what you left us.

  • We are trying, but we ALL need to help, you included.

  • I'm Irish,for 800 yrs.we fought for liberty,we survived,but @ what cost.. Many dead,more wounded minds,and our culture in bits.I'm white,but for many years our welcome was "no blacks,no dogs,NO IRISH".Cherokee I RESPECT your pain&anger.

  • I thought this guy was dead..wow

Impressive...how time has passed by and LSD hasn't taken tolls on anyone...I guess it wasn't as bad as they used to say.

    ROCK ON!! WOODSTOCK!

  • In a just world, Arlo would be worshipped as a god. (Though at my house he is now.)
