Tai Chi is really just Kung Fu done slowwwwwly. Any Tai Chi form can be done at Kung Fu speed just as any Kung Fu form can be done slowly like a Tai Chi form. In fact, when I have a new form rote memorized I practice the form at Tai Chi speed so I can "Get inside" and "Understand" the form. During the middle portion of the form they are actually doing a Long Fist form.

The first performers of the fan-form were men. Naturally men can perform it. In our course there are only a few guys performing fan. In europe men are afraid of looking like gays. Youtube shows you a lot of videos with men performing the fan form.

very true. In fact, many would underestimate the fan's use as a weapon.  Back then, the ends of the staves were sharp as knives. Some of the movements in this fan form can be interpreted as slashing with the fan's edge, or stabbing with the handle's end.

It's loud pop when opened could be used to distract an opponent's attention as you kick, or stun by opening near their ear when close by. Of course, more power to you if you know how to use it as an extension and not just a another stick.

this isnt actually a dance its really a kata which translates to a prearrange form which we use in the martial arts and its excellently performed. i love and compete with this weapon frequently and its is difficult to learn so i put forth much time and dedication to doing so
