Are you sure it has a roller cam in there? I'm doing a full rebuild on my 3.1 (replaced everything from the crank to the valve springs) and taken apart a 2.8 and neither of the 2 had roller valve train. I believe the fwd 3100 engines with aluminum heads came with roller valve train. Only the v8's of that year had roller cam.
first off, the bottom end was never tore down, removed intake manifolds to clean and check the engine out, put all new gaskets in it except for the head gaskets. second of all, it has a roller cam in it so there is no break in period. but thanks for blasting me a shitty comment.
WOW! I hope "after the rebuild" wasnt referring to an engine rebuild. If so, WTF would you rev the shit outta it? NEW ENGINE FIRST START- #1:Start,check for leaks quickly. #2:Bring engine IDLE to 2500 and vary the idle between 1500-3000 for approx. 30-45 min. This helps keep oil pressure and volume high to break in the cam and lifters. NEVER EVER REV YOUR BRAND NEW ENGINE LIKE THIS WANNA BE MECHANIC!!!!!
Did you just pluck the cam out of a junker or buy new? Is it a drop in and what kind of improvement did you see?

did not have roller rockers, just a roller cam and lifter out of a front wheel drive 3400,
