Because the town, sad to say, is worth disliking. Too many people preferring to keep to themselves and not enough wanting to do something about your city.
Yeah, there are millionaires. And that's part of the problem. Trouble is, there's little to no "middle class" -- PB is a banana republic. Ask yourself: if the town is so good, where are the radio stations??
If only Pine Bluffians spent as much time bettering their city as they do whining whenever someone calls BS on 'em. Cheers. :-)
Dude why does everyone dislike Pine Bluff? It's rough in some areas like the loop, Howard drive, etc... This video is propaganda they didn't go to where i live like Windsor colony or 49th or by the hospital nobody can help if you grew up in the slums of PB their are millionaires here too
a ur a fuckin hater and i think u forgot from whence u came, ass hole,im not even from there but if i was,i wouldent hate on tha place like ur sorry redneck ass,u prolly got ur bitch ass ran out of there for being a buster,so just keep ur redneck ass in tha woods bitch boy,
A lot of ppl complain about PB but not enough ppl are trying to make a change dats y it won't change here.ppl need 2 do a lil less complaining and more working to make a difference
I lived in pine bluff most of my life. For some reason,I thought pine bluff was the best and fastest growinig city in america, that was until I went to Little Rock. Then I thought,"Little Rock alot better".Then I went to Dallas for the first time and thought."WOW!" "Dallas is sooo big!" Then the next summer I went to Los Angeles and fell in love with the place.I definitely don't play on staying in Pine Bluff in my future, but there are alot of nice people there that i've met,and i plan on revisiting
Okay, well my last comment and question was 9 mos ago. I guess nobody lives in PB now...or else they are all cliqish. Oh well, maybe I'll mosey on down to Hot Springs.
i was born in Pine Bluff, and i still live there. when i graduate high school and leave for college i will never come back. i hate this town, and if it was up to me i would nuke it off the face of the Earth.
When I left PB over 2 yrs. ago, I proclaimed that I would never make a statement about the city that it hasn't made for itself. But when I see videos like this (to which I'm more surprised about the knowledge of PB's existence than anything else) they provoke me to question how such places still exist--even with the redundancy and hopelessness that comes with the questioning, itself.
Even hell's kitchen would provide more suitable conditions. And this is coming from a former UAPB student.
The song is called "Pine Bluff Blues" what else would he have shown, Harbor Oaks, the arts center, and PB Country Club. those places don't really reflect the song. That is actually all I can think of as "the good parts". If he would have gone to the actual bad parts of Pine Bluff he wouldn't have made it out with his video camera.
Um, if you are going to comment, you might want to learn some English. Remember? We learned it in school.
When you use slang to support your belief, you just ruined any weight it might have held. It shows your ignorance and lack of respect, which is typical of Pine Bluff, btw. That's kinda what's wrong with our town. If we had more respect for ourselves and each other maybe things would be different.
i like Pine Bluff, it defenitely not the best to live or the best place i been to, i lived here my whole life, but i still like it. You can always find SUMTHING to do here, and dats y i like it. I think there is hope in Pine Bluff, and looking at dat video i can see it kinda old, cause i saw da mcdonolds on main street open, but itz closed now because dey moved it to olive st.
Could somebody please tell me what Pine Bluff was like in the 1920 to 40s. I'm doing family geneology. I have two or three cousins that live there. I don't know them. I take it , that it was once a clean, peaceful town ....now gone bad???
I want to move to a small town. We have the L-Maracha 13 gangs here in Forida. They have moved in their relatives and our neighborhoods are going down. Crime is rampant.
I lived in Pine Bluff until I was 5 years old, and then my parents moved us out to White Hall where I have been ever since. This past year, I went to college at Fayetteville and never looked back. After seeing how different it was up there...I can't stand coming home. Pine Bluff has such a rich past in Arkansas history and it is really sad to see it go down so fast. But the only thing to say about all that is: THANK YOU, VOTERS! You made your bed. Now lay in it.
.you showed parts of the city an tryied to exploit the negative...people moving out the citythats there problem most the time there the people in power to make changes an decide to do nothing..THE RICH FOLKS..but they just wanna keep the margin of classes more an more broad..........ppl act like other cities dont have crime...Little Rock has three times as much crime as we do an its the damn capital.but because pine bluff is a smaller city it gets EXPLOITED more .....talk about hypocrisy!!
Um, no....if you recall our city ranked #1 in national crime rates.
This video is Pine Bluff. There's not much more you could show to change it. The reason our town is dying is because businesses aren't moving in and that is due to ... look around. With the crime rate and everything else, would you want to move your family here and bring in workers? No one wants that risk. Pine Bluff has potential, but it's up to us to make something of it, not let it sit and rot as is.
Um, abandoned buildings is all that Pine Bluff is. C'mon people. He showed you Blake, 28th, Main and the mall....what more is there? Regional Park? Even that's a joke. Even the houses over there by the hospital are beginning to deteriorate. Pine Bluff is a dump and will never be anything more than Pine Box. I can remember when downtown was in full swing and it's gone now. No one cares anymore. They'd rather see it die than take care of it or rebuild it.
I'd like to point out as well, that I have lived in Pine Bluff my entire life. I'm 27. Also, in the video, he shows the Sunbeam girl. It was my grandfather that installed and repaired it when it broke back in the 80's. I have ties here and lots of fond memories, but I absolutely hate this town and what it's become.
I have lived in pine bluff all my life and am currently a sophmore @ UAPB...its a str8 town and yawl call it a 5hit hole...where do yawl stay???? the only people that say that had to live here and had dey necks n somebody buziness and got it.
Girl are you out your mind, I just left Pine Bluff. You know as well as I do Pine Bluff ar. Is a place for retirees, (OLD PEOPLE) who have lived there life and just want to go to church and relax. Pine Bluff ar is no place for the young. I graduated U.A.P.B. if I did not leave what would I have done, work out at Wal-Mart, and yes you are right there are success stories. But look at the time line between them.
I would also let to say that yes their are positive things and people who have come from Pine Bluff, you have many recording artist (Gospel, Smokie Norful and the Clark Sisters) and let us not forget someone who just signed a contract to play for Los Angeles, Torii Hunter. So to show just negative is disappointing. I understand what you were trying to do, but many people from Pine Bluff are succeeding!

So you do have much world experience. What you need to do when you can. Is visit other cities and you will see the difference. When I was living in Pine Bluff, to me it seems like the only thing that town cared about was football. Think about it how many playgrounds for children do you see in the whole town.
I would first like to comment on the statement you made about PBHS do longer teaching spelling and proper diction. For you to see the comment that one person made does not mean that the rest of the students or graduates of the school are the same. I am a graduate, and I can honestly say that my class (2007) received over 1 million in scholarship money, we have had more than 2 to receive the Bill Gates Scholarship, the Coca-Cola Scholarship and many others, so please don't judge all from one.
I have family in the bluff, it is a nice place to visit, but the problem is that most of the youth have shit all twisted. Now there are no jobs there, if you are lucky you can get out at Tyson, walmart, or a factory but as far anything else. The bluff is no place to raise a family. this the kind of town you go and retire 2
It's sad to see such a capable city in the condition it is in. I lived there for 4 years. My wife and I moved to another city out of state. After two years we really missed our family, so we decided to move back. I think the two years removed really opened our eyes to the condition of this city. We regreted ever returning. We moved 11 months later. The problem, really, is a lack of leadership. Ever more so, is lack of vision that the people of this city really need.
Ok, I must admit Pine Bluff does have a problem. But no one seems to contribute on how to change the negative things about our city and make more positive things happen.
PB's problem, as I see it, is the upper-class people there are in their own little gated-neighborhood world. Those who cause all the trouble will never change. The rest of us gave up and went elsewhere, where the grass is greener.
my family moved to pine box in 1966,and at that time not a bad place, boy did that change!words can not say just how much i hate this city...i have been gone for six years now and im sure my I.Q.has gone up 20 points..i do wish pine bluff well and i do hope that it can find some kind of peace,or a nuke.what ever it takes.
I lived in Pine Bluff from 92-00. I finished College, and I hung around a while and worked in Juvenile court.--I will say that if you dont want your car or house broken into, move out to the outskirts of the city!!---There is a Bad stealing Problem there. I had Good times and met great People there, but There is a BAd Sprit over the City, maybe because of the Prisons around it!!
Im from PB im a Zebra. It's a really bad city for crime and entertainment and personally, I hate it. But there are some really good aspects that should be shown. The hs has such a superb history department! The 10th grade World His teacher was even an editor of one of the ap world history books! up until just in the past 2-3 yrs, it had such an amazing Eng dept, colleges would get excited when they got and application from PBHS! you dont go on Main after dark, but every city has those parts.
Pine Bluff is a legitimate source of the blues, being in the Chitlin Circuit. Loved the cynicism in the video, loved the music. THey even mentioned the street where i lived. Great video...I might make one.
PB get real defensive when others point out their crime problem. I guess the F.B.I. was picking on them again when they put them at #3 (what yall were #1) for most dangerous U.S. cities this year
Growing up in Pine Bluff was GREAT in the 60's and 70's, but in the late 80's Gangs came in, horrible! I got mugged on a Sunday morning in Harvest Foods,my new car got smashed along with all the other cars in my parking lot with concrete blocks, GANGS again. I have to agree with the police issue, if they would of stopped it then, maybe it would still be a great place to live. They even attacked a State Trooper aNd his family in the park on 24th street.. SAD and no respect
That's what I love about the YouTube comments - the learned, intelligent feedback I receive. It makes me a better person just being part of this profoundly cerebral dialogue.
As a former Deputy Sheriff of Jefferson County for over 9 years, I can say that this video mixes the good and bad for Pine Bluff. There are plenty of good people in the town but it is a dying town and Im afraid it isnt going to survive. All good Police Officers are leaving for places that pay more and have less chances of being kiled in the line of duty. As i did a little under a year ago
Ill have to put the real Pine Bluff Video on here. Anyone can make this video. Hey, maybe I could go over to that trashy town in grant county and make a video. There towns look real bad.....
Sheridan is a decent town, just a small one. Eventually though, integration will turn it into a wasteland like Pine Bluff, which is comprised primarily of animals who are quite content to lie in filth.
I mean exactly what I said. It is what it is. If you can't handle the reality, then perhaps you should do something to help change things for the better.
There's a place or two in Pine Bluff that's better than what you've shown here but there are far more places there that are much worse than what you've shown. People are moving out in droves because they are scared to live there. Most people with any sense at all have given up on it and moved to White Hall, Monticello, or Woodlawn.
I'm not mad at you. I have to admit that Pine Bluff has its issues, I just hate to see my hometown thats tryin to be insulted like, that. I'm not mad at you. In fact I kinda laughed at this video. I just hated that you showed all the negative things instead of the positive.
Pine Bluff has lots of nice apartments, and that KCLA/KZYP is the only radio station closed and there are three more in Pine Bluff. You would show akk if the closed down buildings, why didnt you ride throught Robin Hood Edition, or Stone Ridge, or The Pines Mall, or Olive Street and show everything by that wal-mart, all the schools, and positive things. I'm going to make a response to this.
Respond away - sure, there are some good areas, mostly around the country clubs! From the negative responses I've gotten, I see nothing's changed (attack the messenger). I was showing my wife around the landmarks I frequented and she was rolling tape. This was March '06, and YouTube wasn't even on my radar yet! I banged this out purely for grins.
I can only imagine the death threats I'd have gotten had I set out to make a REAL insulting PB video.
Great video! I grew up in "Pine Box"...er, Pine Bluff, Arkansas and lived there from the age of four until I was fifteen. I could name almost every (almost) street in the video. I was visiting some friends who still live there a few years ago and asked them what they did on the weekends? "Leave town" was the answer they gave me. Thanks for the memories.
I live in Atlanta. I see run down buildings and houses here also. Parts of this "great" city of Atlanta smells like urine. Pine Bluff has a number of quiet and peaceful neighorhoods. I could have made this same video in whatever city you call home now. What makes a good city? New York, LA, Chi-town? Come on. Can you really raise a family in those cities. NO! I think your view of the city is unfair. With the exception of a few nuckle-heads, Pine Bluff is a decent city.
Yes, I know Bukka White is "real" Delta blues. He was still third-rate compared to, oh, where do we start? Sister Rosetta Tharpe? Who crossed the line, PROFESSIONALLY, from gospel to blues to transcendence?
Bukka seems an insulting choice for an insulting video. Sort of like choosing the New York Dolls for backup for a video of the worst of New York. Silly.
Aw come on, how many songs have been written about Pine Bluff, anyway?? If you really wanted me to insult the city, I could've put all this to "The City That Loves People" - a '70s promotional jingle for Pine Bluff. :-)
Sorry you're so offended by this. Pine Bluff is truly a closed-door city to anyone who wasn't born and raised there. And if Pine Bluff is so wonderful, why is it so dead?
Pine Bluff is what happens when a town allows itself to be a banana republic.
Same video could be made about 1000 small towns across America. Or 1000 big cities. "Pine Bluff Blues" is third-rate amateur blues compared to genuine Delta blues. I could make the same juvenile video about L.A. or New York - their smells and boarded-up stores. Except, oh, yeah: I actually HAVE a professionally successful creative life in both those cities. I'm from Pine Bluff, have lots of successful friends there - black & white. You, Bukka & Bottleneck, will be boring losers wherever you are.
I was born and raised in Pine Bluff. No, it is not a party and club city. However, it is a nice town. Come on. There are crimes in every city. As for the crime rate of Pine Bluff; I blame the police in that city. They are not proactive. Get some new police officers and you will see a big difference. You only showed a few parts of that city.
I'm afraid it'll take much more than a new police force. What parts of the city are you talking about? The country club area? Yeah, those look pretty good. The mall area was okay, as well -- and that's likely due to folks coming up from the wilds of Star City, Dumas, etc. to shop.
The rest of the town is dead. I don't know what it's gonna take to bring it back to life, short of a big-league jolt .... CLEAR!
As a person from pinebluff, i can proudly say....IM MOVING THIS SUMMER OH YA IN YOUR FACE! haha, ive been living here for 10 years, which felt like an eternity in hell...
why he didnt go to da hood? Cant see PB without the hoods...Why did he point out to America that this town with 55,000 people has one of the worst (top 5) crime ratres in the whole USA....thats whats compelling to me.
I'm from the Bluff. I must say that your video only tells part of the story. Pine Bluff has dugg itself a hole that it will prolly never get out of...
You're in the Bluff, lock and load brother! Was that old shack @ 2:48 the original building? Thanks for posting.

After two years we really missed our family, so we decided to move back. I think the two years removed really opened our eyes to the condition of this city. We regreted ever returning. We moved 11 months later. The problem, really, is a lack of leadership. Ever more so, is lack of vision that the people of this city really need.

why didnt you show where the gypsies live? they're a big part of the Bluff too.

Ok, I must admit Pine Bluff does have a problem. But no one seems to contribute on how to change the negative things about our city and make more positive things happen.
kzebra94 4 years ago
PB's problem, as I see it, is the upper-class people there are in their own little gated-neighborhood world. Those who cause all the trouble will never change. The rest of us gave up and went elsewhere, where the grass is greener.

You want to change Pine Bluff, Bull doze that mother fucker... I sorry when I was there I felt like I was in hell...

Eventually though, integration will turn it into a wasteland like Pine Bluff, which is comprised primarily of animals who are quite content to lie in filth.
johnnycr57 4 years ago
im takin ur statement to be very racial...wat do you mean about integration destroyin a city....wtf...
korysmith06 3 years ago
I mean exactly what I said. It is what it is. If you can't handle the reality, then perhaps you should do something to help change things for the better.
johnnycr57 3 years ago

ROMONEJP 4 years ago

Silly.
Robertogee 4 years ago
Yep. The New York Dolls are the same lesser footnote to rock that Bukka is to Delta blues. Interesting choice.
Robertogee 4 years ago
Aw come on, how many songs have been written about Pine Bluff, anyway?? If you really wanted me to insult the city, I could've put all this to "The City That Loves People" - a '70s promotional jingle for Pine Bluff. :-)
Sorry you're so offended by this. Pine Bluff is truly a closed-door city to anyone who wasn't born and raised there. And if Pine Bluff is so wonderful, why is it so dead?
Pine Bluff is what happens when a town allows itself to be a banana republic.
rwells2265 4 years ago
Same video could be made about 1000 small towns across America. Or 1000 big cities. "Pine Bluff Blues" is third-rate amateur blues compared to genuine Delta blues. I could make the same juvenile video about L.A. or New York - their smells and boarded-up stores. Except, oh, yeah: I actually HAVE a professionally successful creative life in both those cities. I'm from Pine Bluff, have lots of successful friends there - black & white. You, Bukka & Bottleneck, will be boring losers wherever you are.
Robertogee 4 years ago
They didn't even show the hoods in pine bluff, that's just main street
Youngkris718 4 years ago
That was a very negative video.
Pine Bluff is boring, but whoever made this over exagerated alot. Because, they only showed the closed buildings and run down parts of town.
ROMONEJP 4 years ago
I was born and raised in Pine Bluff. No, it is not a party and club city. However, it is a nice town. Come on. There are crimes in every city. As for the crime rate of Pine Bluff; I blame the police in that city. They are not proactive. Get some new police officers and you will see a big difference. You only showed a few parts of that city.
Arkborn 4 years ago
I'm afraid it'll take much more than a new police force. What parts of the city are you talking about? The country club area? Yeah, those look pretty good. The mall area was okay, as well -- and that's likely due to folks coming up from the wilds of Star City, Dumas, etc. to shop.
The rest of the town is dead. I don't know what it's gonna take to bring it back to life, short of a big-league jolt .... CLEAR!
