If you like this, pick up the album 'Delaney & Bonnie - On Tour with Eric Clapton' and the 4-cd (w/great booklet) 'Delaney & Bonnie - Live' box set from Rhino Records. I contains several shows from the tour that saw Dave Mason and George Harrison joining the band. And it also includes the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, show before the edits were done to create the 'On Tour w/Clapton' album. All great stuff!
who would be stupid enough to dislike this video ? a rapper?i think i need to play this every day it is so so great and rita coolidge as a back up singer she has done backup for so many greats including joe cocker
This was part of the Macon Ga scene when I was on some of these shows also!! I miss those days- I sure had a good time back then!! I mostly sang R&B then.
Delaney was a one of the greats. We lost more than a great musician. We lost what could have been. But thankfully we can always put on one of his songs and feel right at home. RIP Delaney Bramlett.
There should be an all star concert/show in Mr. Bramlett's honor.
Great clip and thank you for posting it. That really brings back fond memories of those days. Loved the music and to see Rita Coolidge (the most beautiful singer of her day)again, well, thanks again.
Delaney was Memorialized on January 2, 2009 at Forest Lawn in Burbank, Ca at 11a.m.
He will be greatly missed, it was a beautiful service, after we celebrated his life at a banquet hall.
We had an All Star band, with Multi-Grammy Winning Guitarist Albert Lee on guitar.
If you listen to the arrangement of this song, it has the TRADEMARK Bramlett sound to it. So to say Eric arranged it might be a little stretch on that.
Please check out Delaney's latest CD, " A New Kind Of Blues"
@zbestwun2001 True about the arrangement - Eric said very clearly he learned everything he knew about singing from Delaney, and although Clapton plays in a variety of styles, he sure picked this one up from D&B.
@zbestwun2001 Thanks - I just had to shake my head, all the talent they collected around them! George Harrison and Rita Coolidge, as back-up musicians !!
It sucks that on the 2nd song those horns and back up vocals didn't stop for claptons solo, I really wanted to see what he had for this song. damnit fuck horns
Clapton was now interested in being an ensemble player, not the only lead instrument in a trio, which is why he joined Delaney & Bonnie. He's playing a lead while the horns continue the melody line. Sounds lovely and I'm sure that Slowhand approved the arrangement of his song.
he had it all. way ahead of his time. influenced everybody. only the best played with him. time plays no favorites, all he has now is memories.thats really sad. he should have been reconized as a clapton, one of the greats.
Be sure to also check out "When the Battle's Over". That video just blows me away how talented this duo was. Every time I watch it I get a crush on Bonnie.
Delaney is the nicest guy you would ever want to meet. He and his wife live here in southern California--he still performs, records and his music is always playing when we are there. His wife --Suze Lanier--is an incredible photographer and have known each other for years. She also played on Welcome Back Kotter as one of John Travolta's girlfriends. They are wonderful people--and Bonnie was on Roseanne--she's still pretty and has that same great voice.
Man back then you had to realy know how to sing!! The sound systems from the 60's were so awful, thus you had to pray that your band mate was singing the right harmony... on pitch!
Thank you so much for posting this clip, Palepolichild. I've been crazy about the Bramlett's since the '60s & it's not easy to find a lot of their music.
"I Don't Know Why" (5:08) from Clapton's greatest songwriting period was a product of his hanging around Delaney, Bobby Whitlock, Leon Russell, and others during his heroin years and resulted in his developing an abundance of white, southern soul.
Awful racist statement. He always refered to his inspiration then and always from black writers and performers however. I trust his judgement and mine. Peace
In reality, I'm sure George held his tongue about what he really felt because he had more class than Eric! I would be willing to say that George was deeply hurt, but as the Brits do, he kept a stiff upper lip and "carried on". God bless him...
Wonder what Eric was thinking as he smiles right after the line about the woman returning to her old man(George). He was in the process of stealing his friend's wife at the time, yes indeed! Poor George, with friends like that...
Jim Gordon on drums...Carl Radle on bass...Bobby Whitlock on organ...in other words,Derek and the Dominoes rhythm section.JimPrice trumpet.Bobby Keyes sax.
What a great clip. D&B had some friends. Clapton, Harrison, lovely Rita Coolidge. Bonnie has a aterrific voice but she looks like the lady at the nail salon.
Wow..didn't even know this existed and been collecting vision and so on for more than 20 years! Awesome post - thanks. Harrison will be eternally 'cool' for so many reasons.
o man, thank you. it is so great to see alonger clip of the band i idolized in college. in fact, i idolized ANY BAND that any of this group of musicians played in. Thanks!
Delaney and Bonnie sung "Happy Birthday" to my mom on her 23rd birthday in Aug. of 1971 at a club. My mom was good friends with a local band called Formula which included Ben Benay occasionally on guitar. My mom dated Ben briefly. My mom chatted with Jim Gordon in the kitchen afterwards!

Clapton's song on this vid is off his first solo album which featured most of the musicians who played with Delaney and Bonnie. Great album.

This "I Don't Know Why" is Clapton's finest vocal performance, along with "Beware Of Darkness" on The Concert for George.
