  • Can you imagine him coming down on anyone like a tonne of bricks?

  • he looks like he got caught on the way to the bathroom

  • So Thom is resorting to threats now?

  • fuk i used to like radiohead

now dem just more illuminati scum sukkas climate change is not caused by c02 emmissions its a fukin lie

  • No, its caused by bad grammer.

  • @robbynood I'm sure they won't be bothered that they're losing you as a fan.

  • i don't think he meant that thom and lennon have a physical resemblance, but that they are both epic and brilliant song writers.

  • And I so think we are theee generation to do change well in any case maybe we even must.

  • Wow this is poetic, I completely agree in fact bcs my grapes taste better without chemicals, I know, and I m not a chemistry expert.

  • Do a YouTube search for "Jesse Ventura Global Warming"

  • yes sir, you are adorable.

  • A question for Brits...

...I know here in America, there's lots of famous accents: the Boston accent, the southern accent, the Pittsburgh accent, the Jersey accent, the Valley Girl accent, etc.

In terms of various established accents of British english...what accent would most Brits described Thom Yorke's accent as?

I'm asking because to an American ear he has a very mild, almost slightly American-sounding accent and verbage, and i didn't know how his accent strikes local ears.

  • he is from oxford and has a standard English accent. im English and it doesn't sound at all American to me and im from the north of England and have a different accent to him, listen to people talk like mick jagger, keith richards, aphex twin, chris martin (who i hate) they all have similar accents.

  • Yakattack,

But people like Keith Richards, Noam and Liam Gallagher, Ozzy Osbourne, etc, have a VERY extremmmmme accent.

For whatever reason, to American ears, Thom sounds incredibly easy to understand. I can tell he's not American but it's just a very gentle difference, and his phrasing isn't explicitly British...slang terms he uses like "wicked" to mean "very" and "the shit" to mean "really good" and the fact that he's very animated and not stiff-upper-lip...it's a very unbritish vibe.

  • hmmm, noel and liam have mancunian northern accents similar to mine, ozzy has a birmingham accent again very different, to the others, keiths is similar to thoms to our (brits) ears though. and weve all been saying wicked since the eighties. the thing is there are so many different accents here you only need to travel twenty miles sometimes less and peoples accents can be very different. its because with england being thousands of years old with no transport people spoke different in each area

  • to us brits their accents are not extreme just normal there are so many here there is no particular extreme or not just

different i think it may be your perception of what you think we should sound like. i can tell the southern american accent and the stereo typical new york one from films but others i would not have a clue.

  • common as muck!!! haha

  • john lennon's twin

  • hmm their two of my biggest obsessions yet ive never seen a resemblance lol

  • ahhhh ..the accent...= )

  • Just because HE does this doesnt mean he's right. You can adore him but is he an authority in ecology and environmental changes? No. Would it be wise to buy sth just because a pop star stars in a commercial? No. And that's the same mechanism. Use your brains - this doesn't hurt.

  • Ummm, Thom Yorke isn't a "pop" star. Britney spears is a "pop" star. Mariah Carey. Christina aguilera. Radiohead doesn't do "pop".

  • Yes of course but that's just an example. I wrote pop star, but it'd be the same with a rock star, a film star or a famous writer. Hope you get the idea.

  • I understand your point. I wish everyone would accept climate change on science only. But it does help for people of all levels of visibility to reiterate the dangers of climate change to keep it in the public eye.

  • yep, good

  • I love Thom,he seems to be a good person

  • who is that fucking stupid to don't believe in global warming??? do you think that all the changes in the enviroment and weather are just because??? DAMN

  • I also don't believe in MAN MADE climate change/global warming and I can give you 10 scientific reasons why if you like. I'll trade you for 10 scientific reasons man made CO2 is causing climate change

  • aha

  • i love thoms eyebrows.

  • i don't agree with his views but he's a great artist :) keep it up thom!

  • i did watch the live earth concert just to see the good bands, but it kind of annoyed me to see my heroes in so much denial that they thought a concert for a bunch of stoners would change the environment. thom is serious about this which is really nice, he's not looking to just be credited with an attempt to help the world. (does anyone else think thom's face at the end is hilarious?)

  • ok, thom.

  • yeaaaah bliiimeyyyyy

  • to those who don't believe that global warming is a true thing: in my country winter lasts 2-3 month... but the last two or three years we saw snow just for few weeks...wtf...

  • That probably was't due to warming. Give it a few years and maybe you'll see that sort of thing happening, but for now the changes are more subtle than that.

  • Like a ton of bricks, that is.

  • I love how Radiohead is possibly the only band who has a genuine interest in a good cause and really goes out of their way to support it such as producing a report on CO2 emission caused by their touring. Thom Yorke is so much cooler and sounds much more genuine than Bono who can't think of a more creative and substantive way than organizing a big concert.

  • I agree with everything you just said but was afraid of saying something like that, because I can't really know about Bono's agenda. Are the two of us the only ones who are bugged by Mr. Vox?

  • like madonna (and probably others) who flew in to take part in live earth on a private plane - i suspect many celebrities are more concerned with raising their own profile than helping the environment. i think thom is one of the few who are genuinely sincere about this - he doesn't seek to promote his own celebrity but instead chooses to highlight the issue whilst trying to make changes to the way radiohead tour so as to minimise it's environmental impact - Good for him!

  • Well not quite :o)

  • double quick time. haha. 1984.

  • and all you do is complaint about it, instead of helping out on this, is not a scam is not bullshit, is really quite real, but you know, just because if the earth could be under water only in 100 years from now you dont want to help because your not gonna be alive to see it, but I honestly think is a shame.

  • it really is real, the problem with you people is that stoping global warming affects the economy, is like against capitalism to you, so you just ignore it, even if you guys know that's true you just ignore it because you dont want to loose your comfortable home, your hot bath, your ig waste of fukin energy

  • His eyes perplex me, he doesn't even blink his right eye once.

    Still awesome though.

  • That's actually his left eye, and it's because of a surgery when he was an infant why his eye is like that.

  • Look at the world. It Horrible! Thom Yorke is good enough to try and change it. So climate change just one of the areas to improve. But i guess you would rather have Thom Yorke buy a hummer and be complacent with just his fame.

  • Maybe because he thinks that there is hope for change, the same reason he made this video.

  • errrrrrrrrrrrm, thom yorke? bored? those words just dont go together! thom is a legend!

  • You ass. It's not politics; it's the welfare of our planet. At least he actually cares, unlike you.

  • He'd probably moan about what a pretentious cunt you are. If you really think Thom is forcing politics on his fans go take a look at the entire list of famous people on the big ask website that have also participated in this march; are you saying the same about them? Don't make assumptions or ramble on about things you obviously know nothing about.

  • Artists have messages to pass on, and some of them don't content with Love.

Thom is listened, so he can pass on his message. He's right to complain, there's a real problem and he can be an eyes-opener.

  • my government hasn't signed the kyoto agreement yet and none of the political parites are serious about climate change. its time people took responsibility and changed their views, changed their lifestyle. CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL!

  • i'm sorry, i have to comment again. i cannot believe there are still some people so ignorant so as to believe that global warming is a scam. i am fourteen years old, and i know its real. (and don't think i'm jumping on the bandwagon! my parents are scientists and all my views are based on fact) how can people be so stupid so as to think its not!

  • and you don't even have to be a a scientist to see it...

  • Someone spends too much time in Church lol

  • its not just the warmer weather we're worried about.

  • how stupid and ignorant are you? the earths temperature is rising, and if it rises two degrees more, the consequences will be devastating. ocean levels are going to rise, species will die, and it will be all humanities fault, because we're all consumers. to say that global warming is only for hippies is stupid, because it affects everyone and its everyones fault.

  • you say that because its nice and conveniant if you don't have to change your lifestyle.

  • You're a complete idiot. Do some research. This isn't just the natural heating of our planet. This is way off the charts. We're doing it; how anyone can still believe that global warming is a farce is so far beyond me. I thought Europeans were smarter than that.

  • Of course warming (and cooling) is a natural planetary occurrence -- warming at THIS RATE, however, is definitely not.

Just curious: why are you so bent on denying human impact upon the Earth's climate? What purpose is it supposed to serve?

  • Are you serious? No-one can deny that humans are responsible for an increase in CO2, but that's not the point!!

The POINT is that CO2 is not a major greenhouse gas, period! Seriously, people need to read more journals, cause global warming was falsified last year...

  • That's true, the global warming is a natural phenomen, but normally it's really slow and species can adapt. Now we're dangerously accelerating it, they have not time to adapt, and they die...

  • My God man, how can you say we're accelerating the global temperature change of the entire world with a gas, the total % of which is only 0.54% of the total gas in the atmosphere? of which I might add, at the very most 0.1% is man made. Volcanoes, the sea, decaying foliage in autumn, farmyard animals...all of these create more CO2 than humans INDIVIDUALY!!

  • Your stats are flawed. The concentration of co2 in the atmosphere has gone 35% since the industrial revolution. There will always be a few outliers in the scientific community but the vast majority support the climate change theory. Why would all these people be lieing to us. There would be no point.

  • you're so thick .. it's the SPEED at which it is happening now that is the notable indicator, thus the big worry.

ps nice video of guy hitting coat rack .. real quality.

  • Go get him tiger!

  • Such a great man! I really support him

  • detestable and loathsome is just the worst possible way to describe it, yeh sure everyone is getting on board the global warming train now rather then ten/fifteen years ago ... if there were more people like thom, then people would be looking at other ways to help out etc... again its a positive message, its not a competition to see who was first which i'm sure many scientists geologists are saying " hate to say i told you so" to the politicians who should have taken notice years ago.

  • tell em thom

  • HAHAHA... look at his face when the video ends, with that half open mouth. Thom is the BEST!!!

  • get your head checked.

  • What the hell are you on about?

  • "we'll come down on him like a ton of bricks"

    what a fucking badass.

  • Release the new album already!

  • he said double quick time... <3 love this man

one day everyone will see how right he is... iceage coming, iceage coming, let me hear both sides, let me hear both sides...

  • I think part of that phrase was a reference to Orwell's 1984. . . so way to stick it to the man Thom.

  • =] that's why i mentioned it =]

  • yeah I agree "we're not scaremongering this is really happening.."

  • At least Thom Yorke is one of 172,033 people asking for a strang climate law via virtual march...

  • At least he's doing something about what most neglect to even think about everyday. Why criticize someone for caring? The bigger hypocrit would be one who points their finger at someone that is trying to accomplish something. I give him credit for doing something!

  • Who is this boozoo? Doesn't his band fly everywhere to perform concert tours. Its ok 4 him 2 travel but no1 else. Hypocricy gone mad.

  • ismall, get a clue b4 you comment, jackass!

  • he is an activist and people respect and listen to Thom Yorke. Try to see the bigger picture.

  • it's Thom

and you don;t need qualifications to talk sense.

what right- no, what /qualification/ do you have to criticize his thinking?

    and his appearence.

    and his logic.

at least he TRIES to make a difference. don't need qualifications to help the world.

  • You have a point, although Yorke has said that he is conscious of this hypocrisy in interviews.

  • yeah..maybe he knows a bit more about the science than you think..to everyone watching these videos and slaggin em off-why not do something useful+join the big ask march?

  • Like yr music. Shame you don't know about science, LOL!

  • Hello mister Yorke, greetings from Mexico City... lol

  • i wonder how much energy was used to make this video and how much is used when people watch this video. Either way Thom, you're coming across well, top bloke

  • Noone is saying don't use energy, they're saying don't waste it. And making a video stating that is not wasting energy. Driving a ford F150 everyday alone is though.

  • it's all for a good cause isn't it... but still, radiohead are my favorite band and i don't want thom to turn into bono or geldof :( haha. Unfortunately climate change and how to solve it is down to politicians and really hasn't got too much to do with individuals in their day to day lives. Hence why mr.brown needs to pay attention

  • Have you never noticed they've been publicising their views for years!? Yes it's got something to do with ALL of us. Everyday you can save energy by doing simple things.

  • yeh, of course i know that! hah. it's a bit naive to think that what we do matters

ultimately it is down to the mass producers and consumers. But yeh, i try to do my best with the whole thing. I guess every little helps and it's better to try and do something than do nothing

  • No it's not naive, it's the whole point. If we all change we can make a difference. But it's good you try. Keep it up and spread the word :D

  • if people can be made to care about this enough, it WILL make a difference. What if nobody campaigned for women's lib, anti-littering, anti-smoking... nobody would have cared and nothing would have changed. Every radiohead fan that watches this will reconsider how they live their lives because they LOVE Thom Yorke. Is this a bad way to use celebrity status?

  • I find it good that people like Thom Yorke are around!

I also find that, "this generation" needs to unify/identify!

so much for that matter, thanks Thom

  • funny how bands nowadays stick to politically neutral causes like this one. where were Radiohead when the Iraq war broke out? such a sham.

  • hmm...are you joking? :|

search youtube for "Like Spinning Plates at Musique Plus", for example. or pretty much any interview circa 2003.

  • Radohead where at the front of the demonstrations. They always have been.

  • Sorry about my spelling, I'm drunk.

  • LP7 named A Ton of Bricks.

  • clever.

  • A respectful nod of the head to you, Thom.

  • Good lad...

  • GOOD.

  • legend

  • Good point made well. It's cool to care about what happens next and to do something to make sure it happens. Cheers,Lesley
