I once worked as a bellman at the Regency Hotel, which was owned by the TISH family, who lived there. The average tip was $5-$10. Every once in a while Mrs. Tish would ask if I could get some things from the basement for her. It was always 10-15-20 boxes and suitcases, and would take forever. Her tip was always the same—a quarter! I did the same thing every time. I would say "oh, thaaank you" and then the second the door closed, I would throw the quarter over my shoulder, as I walked away.
