This is before the visual effects are added in (the plane, sky, etc) which is why there's a green background. When they have that, they can fill it in on a computer with whatever they need. Used to be blue. Also, the sound used here, isn't the final version used for the episode. There's a lot that goes into making just one episode of Smallville or any other series that uses a lot of effects.

Kara is younger than Clark. She is only 19. He is 21. The time in the ship made her younger and time stood still as well.
