Boxed computers are trash, and overpriced. Build and win. For that budget, I would suggest an i7 920, and HD5850. Also, don't forget a good PSU. I've currently been eying up the Corsair 850 watts and the new XFX XXX series PSU's.

Never ever ever ever use a Core2Duo for SLI or Crossfire. It is a massive bottleneck. On one card (1GPU) 2 cores is enough, but any more and you'll need a quad core or an i7/5.
