Thats wonderful video performance by a digital camera. I do not know about other features, but if this camera has a secondary feature (video making) so cool, it is enough for me to be convinced that its digital images performance would also be superb!

A friend of mine has asked me to buy it and I am going to do just that.

I'm planing on buying this one or the DSC-W350. Can anyone recommend me which one to buy? I know the second one has 14 megapixels, but I'd like to know which one is better to record some videos with audio.

I have the exact same problem. In comparison the price for the W290 is a little more expensive but I dont get the reasoning

@chrigiammann Believe it or not, I haven't! haha. This is such an important decition for me... But DSC-W350 is no longer in my list, because I've seen some pictures and read reviews and I didn't like most of what I saw. In my opinion, DSC-W290 is so much better.

But now I can't decide whether to buy W290 or the Samsung DualView TL220, which seems really good, too -not just because it has 2 screens-! It seems like I'm never going to decide... haha

@Shizusky haha..I just bought the DSC-W270 today. I have chosen the 270 over the 290 because its battery lasts longer because of the smaller display (2.7" instead of 3") and it's cheaper. The rest is exactly the same. I haven't had the time to really test the camera yet...but by now I think it is defenitely worth the money. I have already fallen in love with it :-)

I have watched it in 720p. But colours are dull anyway. I see no difference between and any other camera. If you will see HD video taken by SLR cameras, like Canon D5 or Canon D7, you will see what real HD looks like.

Videos are in a different folder on the stick, MP4 extension with corresponding THM. Folder is MP_ROOT\10xMNV01.

@xemzibbyx it is a pretty decent camera, at times the video will go out of focus then come back in to focus, whil shooting video, you may not zoom. i wouldnt recommend this camera, there are probably some better cameras out there

well i've been looking at this camera for a while now and i'll be getting it for christmas! i can't wait! i don't care what you people say because i'm 14 and i don't need CANON or any of those other cameras because i'm not looking into becoming a pro at photography so yeah... If you're someone that's looking for a decent camera, then this is the perfect camera for you. If you're someone who wants to be a pro, then go for Canon or the other good cameras. I personally like this camera :)

While recording there is no zoom .But before you record press the zoom button to a desired number then press record. it does help to add some zoom. i still dont like this camera because the pictures are soft and not clear. Im going back to my canao.

no you can't zoom while recording. But like the other person said, before you record, hit the zoom button to the amount you desire and then when you're recording it'll be zoomed in.

yes, the memory sticks go up to 16 GB which is really good. I don't think there are cards of high capacity. It stops at 16 GB. All i know is that the 16 gb memory stick from Walmart costs about $74. They cost about the same at Best Buy. Visit their website :)

What do you think of the camera background noise? "Crickets chirping," as I call it. I bought a W290 about 2 weeks ago. I liked that one except for the background noise during video, which was louder than in your video. I exchanged it for a new one last week. (Sony Store clerks clueless about noise). My new one has similar noise as yours - I'm debating returning the camera. Is this background noise standard for the model? My old, Sony P100 was quiet, and much less low-tech. Thanks.

That noise is in fact the auto focus motor. Just set it to 'infinity' in the options and the noise goes away. For most video recording it will still look fine.

The video quality is great. Too bad there is no zoom during video... this would ve been a great all-around camcorder. Thank god there is autofocus!!!

How is it as a digicam? Could you upload a few daylight pictures somewhere????
