Im in school for graphic design and in some way contemporary art works well with graphic design, a lot even, but thats a whole different ball game. Quite frankly in the end I had to take two fine arts classes as well. One of them was a complete crock and waste of time because the instructor was a contemporary artist, the other was the best art class i had ever had. It disgusts me what gets called art now days.
'Contemporary' artists are iconclasts. They are either incapable of or unwilling to strive for the technical mastery of past artists. That's where their sneering condescension comes from: their profound awareness of their own inferiority. Sure, it's possible to make a philosophical argument for a shoe stuffed with rocks being "just as valid" as Michelangelo's David, but no-one really believes it - not when the sight of that statue confronts them and blasts away all the pretentious wittering.
Well said well said.
