  • What's up with this SWR TShirt ? kkkk I know they just sound way better then GB! ;)

  • @Carlosrzz - It's called a free tee shirt.

  • @BassGuitarMag lol You got it!

  • I love your videos Ed, i learn about basses and have a little fun with your jokes...! lol

  • hey ed, have you ever tried the atlas 4x of fernandes????

  • Could you someday do a lesson for some of your licks, they are beyond amazing

  • @Smoothbassline - Thanks, glad you dig the tasty licks. I probably won't do a lesson on them.... these are just things I make up as I go along, they are not anything I remember. But the good news is, they are right in front of you in the video and if you watch/listen enough, you should be able to figure them out.

  • @BassGuitarMag Will do :)

  • @BassGuitarMag i play metal, fusion, prog, sludge, and rock. do you recommend this or the atlas or the gravity? 4 string and fingerpicking and i want an agressive but refined tone....... thanks

  • @BlackMaidenTallica - I don't know those other basses at all. But this one is pretty much what you describe.

  • @BassGuitarMag alright. thanks m probably going to get the x version if anything due to lack of money lol

  • @BlackMaidenTallica

Dude, get a Daisy Rock bass.

  • 23-24 awesome!

  • BEST Tone Ed!

  • badass pick sound

  • does this have a 2 band eq?

  • just bought one on kijiji for 550 CA $

    killer bass ! :)

  • how would you compare this to an sr700 or srx for hardcore rock and puck along with the stingray and bongo im playing sr300 and i realy like it.It dose a great job for me as i play alot of red hot chilli peppers right up to metal core and i find it's like a jack of all trades but i want to realy want to step up.

  • @nachospole1 - This bass is neck-through-body, which gives it a slightly different character than the other basses you mentioned. A little less thumpy attack and more sustain. It's a great sounding bass, but different than Ibanez and MM. Listen to samples, and judge by the tone. Go to a music store and play some basses, judge by the feel. I can't tell you what to buy. They all have their good qualities.

  • Hi Ed, you should made a review of this bass in 5 strings.

I wondering how much growl the B string on it.

  • Sorry the deluxe ate made in s Korea

  • And made in Japan

  • Also the x's are mass produced in China, I'm getting a deluxe, they're very reliable I hear

  • Hey Tenshin, the difference are the EMG's

  • Hey Ed, at the end I got the Fernandez Gravity 4-X (standard not deluxe) the sound was way better for my needs than the Tremor, sick bass and budget friendly too! you should review the Gravity, anyway just thanks for sharing your knowledge here.

  • Hey Ed, love your reviews and your sick clean and badasss playing style je je.

Im looking for a Fernandes Tremor X 4 (not deluxe) it there too much of a difference?

  • @tenshin78 - Honestly, I don't know what the difference is.

  • would you seriously recommend this bass over a fender p, Ed?? havent decided what bass to look into when i go high end, thanx! :)

  • Ed, nice review, & nice licks. Though I'm not in agreeance with the "lightweight" comment, it's not as bad as some! The weight does help it sustain all the way to tomorrow night if I want it to... I bought mine, used, two weeks before Peter Steele died and painted it flat black with blue hardware like he and I used to do his basses in black & green (before he got his factory green Tremor Deluxes and later switched back to Washburns) when we were close. Strange irony. R.I.P., Peter.

  • Hey Ed, thanks for this review, my folks gave me this bass in red for my birthday and I've been playing it for a few months now. It sounds really great and I really appreciate the review of the bass. I have one question though, I have a lot of fret buzz when I play it. Is there any way that I could be able to get rid of that or fix it?

  • @danieljapan - I have no way of knowing the cause of the buzzing. It could be the neck adjustment, the string height, the fret condition, or your technique. Take it to a repair guy.

  • @BassGuitarMag Alright thanks. I'll be sure to check that out

  • @BassGuitarMag andif that doesnt work then trry rolling down ur treble.

  • What do you think of Chris Beatties Signature Jackson Bass, Ed? I'm thinking that or this tremor. I play metal!

  • @Whitemoon379 - I haven't seen that one.

  • Hi Ed. Can you please tell me if the bass is made in Korea or Japan? Thanks :)

  • @littlewillywinkie - Sorry, it's been a long time. I don't remember.

  • pss eres riko k pedo tienes casi tds las mejores markas d bajo

  • Thanks Ed, great bass!!!

I have some questions: the sound of the Tremor 5 Deluxe is the same that this Tremor 4 Deluxe?? How is the sound of the fifth string?? Would you recommend this bass to play funk-metal and slap?? What do you think is better for it, Gravity or Tremor?? Thanks Ed!!!

  • Can't say. I never tried the 5 string or the Gravity bass. I thought this one sounded real nice though, and certainly a good choice for aggressive music.

  • this one is perfect for metal!

i have a request, i bought this SX jazz bass, can you try to get one over there and try it? i am glad i bought the SX, its $199,00 and sounds, plays and is almost the same as a Mexican Fender jazz bass

  • Sorry, no SX reviews are in my future.

  • just waiting now for a review of the Fernandes Gravity Deluxe 5 or even 4 string bass :P

  • This Bass is up my alley, for straight up Metal!!!!!

  • I have a question. Does this bass have a fat neck like a P bass or more of a thinner neck like the jazz?

  • Just got this bass in red for my birthday. Loving it!

  • ssoooo I noticed you're playing Genz but wearing an SWR shirt. How'd they feel about that haha.

But seriously. I have the GBE 1200 and I would like to know what the eq is set at

  • Well, SWR and Genz Benz are both owned by Fender, so I'm sure it's not a problem.

I don't remember where the eq is set.... I shot this video a year ago, sorry. I do believe I was overdriving the tube channel for some of it.

  • Pleeeeeaaaase Ed!!! Tell me how much that thing is worth (I might be getting one), and what gauge strings you were using. Thanks in advance.

  • How much is it worth? I have no idea. Check online and see what they go for new. Try musiciansfriend(dot)com

The strings were whatever they come with from the factory.

  • i have a fernandes tremor 5 strings.. delicious

  • That tone is delicious.

  • how much is it

  • Mine was $999

  • Oh Yeah!!! Rock It!!!

  • sounds great

  • MALDITO!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • I know you play pickstyle in your reviews to cater to bassists who prefer said style, but how often do you play pickstyle in your shows or on your own?

  • Depends on the gig, but overall maybe 5-10% of the time.

  • what do you think about tremor 5 string with humbucker pick up?

  • I love fernandes basses !!!!

  • nice shirt:)

  • is the Atlas 4X bass good?

  • Sorry, but I haven't played that one.

  • what has better pickups? this or the gravity bass?

  • Sorry, I haven't tried the Gravity bass.

  • This bass is pretty nice, at first I wasn't hearing much of a difference in the effects but then near or after the middle it really had a big effect on the sounds, sounds great.

If guitar world ever sent you a spector bass you should talk mention Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse, now you might not like that band but he's in another band called blotted science that I think everone would enjoy more, he's actually a great bass player, one of the best in metal IMO.

  • Amen to that.

    Alex is fucking nuts \m/

  • well, this one is for hard - rock. well, thats similar i guess

  • edd. could you show a heavy metal example bass? and ofcourse play somethin heavy ;]

  • Well, if Guitar World sends me one to review, yes. Otherwise... no.

  • i want a5 string of this

  • you are brilliant at review bass guitars! Thanks, I always look foward to your reviews!!!

  • thanx, would you recommend it for thrash, black, death or classic metal?

  • does anybody know how the cheaper fernandes tremor 5x sound im looking into a bass for thrash metal but cant spend over 700 bucks and its down to a the fernandes tremor 5x, traben chaos core or dean sledgehammer 5 and ive tried the latter 2 and love them but how are the cheaper fernandes cuz i just love the looks

  • hey there, i own the cheaper 4 string version, and its really awesome, if u want more info, look up for some reviews on the internet, they helped me a lot when i wanted to buy mine. good luck

  • Asgard222, true story..on the cheaper tremor basses, my neighbor got one out of the box and it was a turd, presence knob didn't do a thing. I bought the same bass (in blue not black) from a nearby store- it was heavier and I couldn't be happier with it. by all means, Tremor basses DO vary so if youre getting one, find a local dealer and actually play the thing first...

  • Do you think Rob Trujillo Fernandes Gravity Custom (With blue flames) is available in a store??Cause it's really kick ass

  • I'm afraid I have no idea. Do a web search.

  • i have tha grav 5 . i found sum1 2 make them they luk well gud

  • his flames are custom i believe but you can buy his same model

  • ...I think that sound also has a lot to do with the amp

  • Is it made in Japan or Korea?

  • Sorrry if I'm being annoying but one more question....

    "You results may vary..."

Does that mean that some of the Tremor basses have bad quality or are you just kidding?

  • That seriously sounds badass.

  • I have never heard rock bass playing with a pick sound so good.

  • great review. What about fernandes gravity 5 deluxe ? :) tremor sounds like a heaven

  • Pincho cabron !! i dont like how the brand sounds but the bass sounds exquisite

  • Would you say that the soapbar J's are similar to the normal EMG J sets?

I am looking at getting a set of the J's for my MIA J and those pickups sound great in this vid.

  • Well, thanks! I rarely get to play rock... I'm more in the jazz/blues/country circles in Austin. I'm probably too old (and impatient) to play in a rock band. But, as I write this, I'm on the road with Eric Burdon and The Animals... and I'm getting to rock out a bit. At 50 years old, I'm the youngest guy in the band.

  • 50? You've aged well.

  • Clean living brother..... ;)

  • Malditooo sends death with that shotgun bass!

  • Maldittooo hahaha

  • lol with cheap flimsy bridges rob you of tone bit.

  • What a great sounding bass!

  • love your reviews man, keep up the good work!

  • WHAT IS HE RUNNING THE BASS THROUGH?

  • Dude, chill with the ALL CAPS, it's like screaming at people when you type.

I'm running through a Genz Benz GBE1200head and Genz Benz NeoXt212 cab. I'm using the tube channel to get some overdrive.

  • i wanna get the 5 string version

  • that was really cool, love the bass, and I would never expect one of these gear pages to metion a heavy metal player

  • What cool reviews. I've just started playing bass and I see this is the same guy who wrote the hal leonard bass method books i've just started learning from. The books are great by far the best beginner books out there for practical learning, thanks alot Ed !

  • Your welcome! Thanks for the comment.

  • F.G.I= Freaking Great Instrument!

    lol

    fits and its true

  • I love how you THOROUGHLY go through everything. I really hate when you attempt to play something at a music store(excluding Bass Emporium) and the salesmen bother you so much you never even really get a chance to get into the instrument. Then when they finally leave you alone, they all stand there and stare at you instead. Maybe I am just sensitive. ANYWAY nice to get to HEAR things really detailed.

  • the only problem with this kind of video....every bass sounds fantastic when played by the great Ed...but when we try it is sucks...so i think mostly got to do with his amazing and versatiel bass playing skills.

  • Stupid question. Isn't the bass black? on 0:46 you said "blue finish".

  • No, it's "Gun Metal blue", must be the lighting.

  • gun metal blue=soft black

  • Sounds good! Is it more, or is the first riff a little distorted?

  • Oops, I mean is it me, don't know what I was thinking.

Also, I think FGI stands for Fernandes Guitars and don't know what the I means, sorry!

  • Yes, it is distorted. I was deliberately overdriving the tube channel on the Genz Benz. Sounds good to me.

  • another great review Ed! thanks!

we need to get you back up here to Vancouver!!!!

  • Sounds good to me! Send me a ticket, and I'm there!

  • I have always loved your videos Ed.

It seems that all the basses (and other gear) that you review always sounds great. I think it just goes to show that with a great player and a nice amp the bass doesn't make as much of a difference. Also the fact that there are so many great instruments being made these days at all price ranges.

  • Thanks for the complement. My goal is to show off the instrument's best qualities, and hopefully that's what happens. Now that I'm recording direct as well as miking the amp, it's easier to hear the true sound of the bass.

  • The first drop D tone was awesome!

  • never was really concerned with fernades before, but that bass is a pretty good product. no one trick pony...thanks again ed.

  • I liked the sound of this bass right away

  • Love it!

  • Sounds sweet. Good video. Keep em' coming!

  • Great review. What's the street price Ed?

  • I think 1050 ish

  • freak'n awseome sound.

  • Hey Ed! Nice Bass...I don't suppose you have a video of you trying out one of the Aria Pro II SB-1000's? I'm dying to get one.
