  • Please, please upgrade to a min. 200$ worth of a HD camera! I believe that the investment would make you a major Youtube player and one of the best aviation historians!

  • Airboyd...You always have the best footage of any jet driver's seat video than anyone on the tube... Thanks for it all, and keep it coming my friend~!!

  • I used to love this landing and lucky to have experienced it 10 to 20 times. I always remember the stink when landing though, was it the sea(?)

  • Pilot acts like he's done that once or twice.

  • He Landed.. Wow!!! Too Smooth.!

  • Kai Tak was closed simply because there was no room for expansion. It also required extra qualifications for pilots operating there. Beside, the path of the approach prevented high rise developments which were very desired in a dense city like HK. Safety had nothing to do with it, Kai Tak's record was better than Chep Lap Kok's, given 10 deadly accidents over 50 years and most were runway overshoots - ironically, nothing happened on the 13 approach path. business won over heritage..

  • now that my friends, was a greaser!

  • BALLS OF STEEL

  • i didnt feel when it landed

  • Do you suppose alot of people live there?

  • funny how the video camera makes it look like the plane is landing at about 10 mph

  • y does it look like da planes movin so slow...bt its actually fast????:)

  • Jesh it seems like he just floated down onto the runway

  • What does the pilot mean when he says plus 10, 900 plus 14, 800

  • @royalengland I think the 'plus 10' is +10 kts above vref and '900' is the rate of descent in fpm. I may be wrong though.

  • Да это маленький самолет. он сразу зарулил к стоянке. Это аэропорт любительского Аэроклуба.

  • Нихера се жесть! Перед самой полосой вышел на посадочную!

  • Нихера! Перед самой полосой вышел на посадочную!

  • Dad used to fly this every day in a TriStar.. He still misses it I think!

  • Thanks for posting dude. Great vid. Good to see from the pilots view.

  • I love the sound just after touch down the high pitch buzz

  • I love the sound just after touch down the high pitch buzz

  • When Alan Whicker was talking with the pilot who had just landed him there, Alan said that he was so scared he shut his eyes on final approach ! The pilot said - "so did I ! "

  • To much zoom! It look so slowely at the touch down.

  • Wow, I would love to go to Japan.

  • @jushayward Too bad this is China.

  • @jushayward its China buddy!

  • /watch?v=RlOuY1JHBJc

  • gooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • dont stop in time and splash!

  • When i left China, for my new country i left on a Cathay 747, Kai Tak airport. 13 years passed first time I returned (this summer). Unfortunately was not able to experience landing at Kai Tak in the 773ER.

  • Have to love a 1/4 mile final in a 747 :P

  • is it allways raining there?

  • Это точно не 747-й. Это маленький самолет. Ничего удивительного

This is not B 747. This is a little plain, nothing strange

  • @OlegM72 That is surely a B747!

Олег, тупить не надо. На видео съемка из кабины 747го. Это отчетливо видно.

  • jiggling-round like my mamma's tits!!

  • wow ... those pilots are such brave heros ...

  • Как он с такой маленькой скоростью вообще держался в воздухе? o_O

  • Sorry for say this , but this airport is a shit, dangerous and short runway, very proffesional pilots..Hong Kong have enough resources to built a securer airport

  • @osnoflaramo This airport was closed in the late 90's. They've had a new airport for over 10 years now.

  • @davidc437 many thanks dude i didn't know....

  • @osnoflaramo

maybe u should say this "was" a shitty airport.. since we have a "new" one that opened more than 10 years ago.. lol

btw, i m not a pro.. but wouldn't st. martin airport be crazy too haha.. i like it though.

  • hope some day i'll be a Pilot...

  • landed at no speed at all, u sure we wernt in a helicopter lol

  • @mrmulligan1268 ´Lol, optical illusion

  • IMPRESSIVE !!!

  • it should be around 150-160kts

  • What speed he did it at ? seems like no moer than 60 mph ?!?!

  • @oBrendy The stripes in the runway are about 30 meters long! They're going very fast, though it doesn't seem so

  • Spectacular video!!

  • Awesome!!!

    That's what professionals do

  • i wonder, did you make this footage yourself, if so, how did you get this awesome oppurtunity :)

  • take a wiff of that smog...... gotta love hong kong

  • @lolnumpty luckily this footage was filmed before1997, if it is film today, a lot of double standard people will say 'HK becomes much polluted after the handover'

  • boeing 747 :)

    sick rides.

  • Thanks

  • That approach (in very murky conditions) and landing was BRILLIANT. Hardly a shudder when the main gear touched down. A real pro job. Thanks for the post

  • Great landing, excellent crew!

  • Outstanding pilot!!

  • @kazmentes when he zoom's it appear to be very slowly but infact it isn't

  • wow that was a great landing

  • That was effortless, great landing.

  • no sliding turn..PAPI indicators perfects...talk about a smooth landing ! back to some xwind videos LOL

  • -Excellent landing-

  • Any landing you can walk away from is a good one, that was beautiful...

  • This landing had to be one of the top 10 smooth lands at KAI TAK

  • sat it down like a baby ! beautiful!

  • Just one word: Spectacular!

    Nice video! and Sound!

  • wow that was a slow landing, almost no distance covered on the runway. Just look at the lines.

  • That runway looks seriously to short to land any kind of aircraft in it.

  • ca 155 knots

  • how fast are they going? it looks very slow...

  • Very nice landing

  • Being a PC pilot, I've tried the approach and did a VFR on the checkerboard on the mountain near the airport. I hand flew the bird in using a 757-232. Still quite a challenge.

  • Get a friggin life buddy!

  • wtf?

  • is there a system in the aircraft that puts it straight in the landing path ?

    a GPS or something ?

  • ILS.. instrument landing system.

  • There is, if the Airport has the facility for it. It's called ILS. You put in a radio frequencie in the Navigation panel, then activate it when you got clearance.

But I don't know if Kai tak had it... because of the dificult approach.

  • thankyou !

  • They got a facility called IGS.

  • Btw they got ILS actually, but on the other side, ILS rwy 31.

  • If you looked out the side window you'd see just how fast it was going dimwit

  • It's because He zoomed in lol. That's why it looks so slow.

  • it's the final approach, of course it's slow.

  • u should have thought that out before you posted that comment XD

  • it seems slow because it's zoomed yeah the cameraman wanst so good

  • CPA260 LFPG-VHHH (VHHX)

  • Cause PKarpachev asked if anyone could tell if he was applying it.

  • Would have been better zoomed out a bit imo.

  • That is one great landing

  • Reverse thrust starts at 2:07

  • roosenvelt, why U telling us?

  • looks very slow

  • i thought the same. Think its just because of the amount of zoom used whilst filming. If it was zoomed right out it'd probably look a lot faster

  • I wonder if the pilot is applying backthrust? Can anyone tell?

  • I'm also curious. what is plus 10 and plus 14 etc. i assume V Speeds?

like how V2+10 is used on climbout and stuff? sumthing like that?

  • i wonder how you got the video LOL

  • Hong Kong airport is one of the hardest airports to land on ( so i hear) those pilots are very skilled

  • yea , great landing. from the vid, u couldn't even tell when touchdown was. sweet!

  • What are those "Plus 10", "Plus 14" calls I hear from the pilots for?

    Great video!

  • Comment removed

  • I woulda dropped it a little slower...but then again im an old timer. :)

  • hahha noob

  • too high.... but excelent anyway =-D

  • wow nice

how did you get in the cockpit?

  • i don't maybe he is one of the crew ?

  • the door. Before 911 anyone could get in if the captain was happy for them to be there. although cathay pacific does not like videoing because any swearing or jokes could give them a bad image.

  • i think airboyd is a pilot irl

  • man i hate that turn to the threshhold

  • Incredible, this landing was perfect, beautiful!

  • See? its not that hard.

  • hong kong looks like rio de janeiro dont?

  • ime going to have to tru and land here on flight simulator x :D

  • 12年了,此情不再

  • the smallest runway i've ever seen

  • what???

    is very long..

look for saba airport or st barths........

  • It was built in 1925, so, yup it was small. The runway was extended, but, it was deemed to expensive to again and again - not enough resources around that area of Kowloon. Hence, the move to Lantau.

  • gotta be on your game for this approach!

  • what's with the Alarm at the beginning?

  • the alarm indicates that the autopilot is set off, right? not 100 percent sure though...

  • Auto pilot disengagement

  • It means Autopilot is deactivated.

  • Great post thanks

  • what is that sound at 2:01 and at 2:30?

  • engine reverse trust

  • I think at 2:01 its the spoilers.

  • Actually 2:01 and 2:30 sound like the flaps... but they shouldn't be that loud in the cockpit. Idk what that could be. Maybe the breaks being engaged, because it starts at 2:01, which is right at touchdown, then again at 2:30, when the plane begins to move again.

  • spoilers going down.

  • 2:01 are the Spoiler rising sound, pilot switch to ARM before landing, once the plane hit the runway,it will rise automatically.

2:30 are the pilot manually retract the spoiler, after the speed reduce to <30knots,and exit from the runway.

  • An airplane seems to plunge into the sea and is worried.

  • Вот вы идиоты!!!!

  • Can someone tell why they have to land with the mountain in their back and not from the sea? I knew it but now i forgot why...

  • there was really heavy tailwinds from runway 31 (from the sea) so they couldnt stop in time

  • ah ok! Thx ;)

  • If you overshot the runway or had to execute a "Go Around", you would likely slam into the highway or downtown Kwolon. If you had to go around, you would probably not clear the mountains.

  • The old HK airport was in the middle of the city, as you can see in this video. That last-minute turn to starboard in the final approach was famous around the world.

Unfortunately, the new HK airport is in the middle of the harbor and there is nothing interesting about landing in HK anymore.

  • And that is the reason why Kai Tak had to be shut down. There's always reasons for things to happen. Kai Tak was getting old and didn't have enough space for the increasing traffic. also it was really unsafe to land in the middle of the city. many accidents were caused because of this, so the government decided to make a new airport far away from civilization... not quite. but it's really inconvenient nowadays to go to the airport unlike the old days...

  • pretty good video,it looks very slow landing.

  • How come they were going at like 5-10 km/h when they reach the ground

  • hahah. that's because the filmer sat on the jumpseat. that's about 5 feet from the front window so the cameraman zoomed. that will cause the airplane appear to go slow.

  • Thanks man..... Thanks so much... I miss this airport.....

  • Nice landing budy :)

  • O_O... nice landing O_O...

he banked it lol then got her on the runway

    wow they are really skillled...

  • 60, 30 10... that is the feet above the runway they are at

  • what does 60 , 30 ,10 at the end mean??

  • elevation

  • Altitude countdown to touchdown.

  • Pilot say altiude by this words. This means that they descending 60 feet 30,20,10...

  • The plane has feet in the air. Pilot has words, to indicate that there are feet in the air, but chooses to say instead. This is problem.

  • feet till the ground

  • ZOOM OUT!!!! you freaking hacks!!!! I couldn`t tell if that was a jet or a blimp landing...yeeeesh

  • no sean cares de vergas

    hijos de putas

no me agan perder el timpo

y metanse un deo por el culo...

  • Can someone explain why it lands so slow? And roughly how fast its traveling when its about to hit the ground, It looks like i could prob beat it with my legs

  • It just looks slow because the visual reference point is the ground, which is quite far so it looks like its moving so slow from the inside. The landing speed of 747 is more or less 140knots.

  • I think that 747 landing speed is nearby 150 knots

  • perfect landing ! nice video 5*

  • OMFG. WHAT A PRISONER LANDING O__O I'd visit Hong Kong... the city of dream. but too dangerous landing :( Anybody knows have there ever been airplane crashes in Hong Kong airport??

  • This Kai Tak airport is closed

  • Kai Tai is closed? O_o how long time gone since it was close?

  • 11 years... Sad, isn't it?

  • yeh...

  • wtf

  • Dude this is no game

this is real footage of a landing i been on an airplane before and it looks exactly like this

  • well, Kai Tak is short.. got to hand it too ya.., but I promise you, it ain't THAT short :)

747's land that on a regular basis.. there enough footage on youtube of landings shot from the hill it goes over so you can see even the belly of the whole plane.

This footage looks real, and spooky enough.. it just that damn close to stall speed it freaks any sane person out.

But, to put your mind at ease.. they closed the airport irrc.

  • DAM that a realyx5 short runway
