  • I have to contend that these, at least the telecaster, DO belong in the hall of fame.

  • Roy was the artist, the guitar was his paintbrush.

  • Nice. but those guitars ain't nuthin without Roy playing them.

  • uhm this are not al roy,s guitars that where for sale here he was having 15 telecasters or somting

  • I bought his tele

  • Jerry Garcia guitars are now hanging with Paul Allen Microsoft and will never be heard again. So you can see for yourself what money can do!So sad!

    The Don

    Holland

  • What happened to the one with the granite body?

  • I can't believe his wife gave those beautiful guitar to some kid next door for cheap garage sale penny's !!!

  • Sold for the price of a bag of beans

    :-(

  • Does anyone know where any of these guitars have actually ended up?

  • not one strat. interesting. Its hard to find a guitar thats right.

  • These need to be in Arlen Roth's new GUITAR HALL OF FAME, IN COOPERSTOWN, NY! check it out at guitarhalloffame!

  • @37terraplane You're right of course. Why Arlen didn't take out a 2nd mortgage to get these is beyond me.

  • I was there at that show at the George R. Brown center. John Sprung was touring the guitars for his widow.

  • I think that's really sad.

  • what a bunch of babes!

  • Those guitars should never have been sold. So wrong.

  • it hurt's to see this video it be nice to see his guitars, somewhere like at the R@R hall of fame.

  • at first i saw just the tele for 65 and thought holy moly good deal theni read some of the comments and threw up on my fucking keyboard, rip roy (if you can)..

  • to read all of this makes me sick.- the guitars are priceless and shod be in a musiem for all to see. RIP ROY

  • Judy Buchanan, my aunt sold Nancy for not much money. I don't think this guitar should have a price tag on it. Why should someone try to make money on someone elses misfortune. This guitar should be given, yes given, back to the family and let them decide which musiem or display it should reside. This is a family matter, it should not be passed around. I'm sorry, but this is rediculous seeing a price tag on Roy's number one guitar

  • @jfo41 quite rightly so :)

  • @jfo41 Its 100% Bullshit that as widely reknowned and respected as Roy Buchanan was his peers that include filthy rich people like Mick Jagger , Vince Gill and others could not have come together and financially helped the family. The leech who is selling for Blood money should have his balls cut off!

  • His main guitar,"Nancy" was jointly owned by two well known DC area guitar dealers. at one time it was simply hung on a wall at one of their stores and you could get right up on it.back in the day. One or both of the guys may still own it.

A" backup guitar" assembled from parts of various 1954 models was exhibited by the promoter of the Hagerstown Md guitar show in the nineties and offered at $1100.00 with no takers and no provenance to definitively connect it to Roy. Go figure................

  • I WANTED ALL, I WANTED ALL AND I WANTED NOW!

Seriously, that guitars should be in a museum.

  • The tele alone would be worth over $65,000 today. But without Roy to play them, it's just a bunch of wood that some rich guy can show off to his friends.

  • @lordkoos Sorry bud, but that Tele isn't worth anywhere near $65,000 today, maybe half of that.

  • @Carolinatunesmith

Hmmmm, I don't see why not. A wealthy enough guitar playing fan would pay that no problem if that's the same axe I think it is.

  • Les Pauls and Teles....thats all you need.

  • Judy (Roy's widow) needed the cash...Roy didn't leave her in the best way financially and they had adopted a child in 1986, adding to the financial strain.

Someone bought this collection and resold some of them...I heard the white Guild T-250 (supposed to be the Roy Buchanan model, but didn't get his name) sold for $3,500 in the mid 90's.

  • one of his guitars( is) in a Fender museum in Fullerton,Ca.

  • Yes it is a shame. I guess his widow needed the money.

  • I just recently heard of this guitarist, and he is a natural! I think its a crime to sell his prised posessions. They should be like in a museum or somethingbecause they are priceless!!!

  • vai se fudê, filhodumaputa

  • a crying shame

  • this is a crime...these should be in gallery or the library of congress or something

  • Wow. I'd cut off a finger just to touch his old "Nancy".

  • Only 65k for all the guitars?

  • I know, and they actually work!

  • Kind of a shock to see that...... Roy had a large family and was not a wealthy man. That Tele on the cover of "Street Called Straight" was the one he called Judy, after his wife.

  • Roy's Telecaster was named "Nancy" not "Judy"

  • you're right, my bad

  • We're talking 1992 not 2009 on the guitars. Yeah.. sounds like a lowball offer but back then but there really was not too much of a vintage guitar market as there is now. Plus Roy Buchanon was not as popular as other bands were back then. I've seen the 71 /54 tobacco burst les paul on Ebay twice and I think it went for 6k a few years back.

  • he was offered to be the guitarist for the rolling stones

  • they should be put into a musuem.......... Do I sound at all like indiana jones?

  • No Indiana Jones here, your right, that man is amazing! I just discovered him a bits ago, and wow am I blown away! What an amazing guitarist, what an AMAZIN' musician! I'm sooo surprised he's not more of a common name.

  • hard to believe they went for this price but maybe Judy Buchanan found them to painful to hold on to, so the cheap price was to get rid to allow her to get over Roy's death. On the other hand, there are those rumors she didn't approve of Roy's chosen career though I'm sticking with my first reason.

  • i wish i would have had the money i would have bought those for my dad he would have creamed his pants he loves roy

  • Maybe roys wife should have gotten a job ! thanks for the post.

  • Those guitars should have never been sold. But that's just me.

  • fantastic collection of guitars but very sad indeed! got to see him twice inconcert...fabulous shows!

  • someone got a deal $65,000 for the collection you could get that much for just the one guitar

  • My dad has that same record that is first shown here with Roy sittin at the table...great record

  • Why would Roy's famiy even consider selling all his guitars,...especially his Telecaster. I guess they need money or don't care.

  • It was a money issue. Roy didn't do any financial planning.

  • Neither did they, apparently. 65k for that collection is lowballing it to the extreme.

  • Iv'e got a telebody that the late great roy owned.

    peace

  • you serious ?if so your a lucky guy and i envy you

  • Sad, indeed. I hope at least one of them went to some museum. Anyone interested in Roy Buchanan should check out the Live in Japan CD. It's worth the purchase price. Seeing all his guitars on the table is sad though.

  • doeas anyone know if they are still for sale ?

  • 17 years ago -yeah I reckon they are still sitting there??

  • doe anyone know if they are still for sale?

  • How sad - but hey, no-one can play them as the way he did

  • They are to guitar like stradivarius for the violin. You never know, a young virtuoso might put one of these back to life in his own way, might be just as good or better with his own signature...

  • It's pretty sad that they were flogging them off like that.

  • i agree completely

  • man, that sucks, they should be in a museum somewhere, like the museum of blues or something

  • amazing. Roy's guitars. Im awestruck.

  • So..... how did this guy get all of his Guitars?

  • He evidentally bought them from the widow
