Strange, the actual news video says she climbed up a tree and got electrocuted and needed her legs amputated but here it says dogs did it, she cant use a liter box and has difficulty scratching herself and needs someone to do it for her and her movement aren't that similar to a normal cat walking on all four. it's indeed a bit sad if you get a bit deeper into it.

It wasn't an 'idea', it's a procedure used to save the cat's life. It would've been to prevent the spread of infection, probably. We barley ever amputate at work, but when we have to it's usually a really bad case.

A human would sit in a hospital bed watching reruns of tv shows being fed and hooked up to IVs and the like. An animal must have the quality of life taken in to consideration. This animal, other than the obvious handicap is able to be mobile and eat and drink. The DVM felt it was a win.
