I'm so happy to finally see this again. My Dad used to come up to my bed on Saturday morning. He would always say "Up and At 'em, Atom Ant"! and carry me down on his shoulders to watch cartoons and fix me dippy eggs and toast. I was 6 when this was on. Johhny Quest, Space Ghost, Scooby Doo, those were the days!
One has to wonder if he garbage smasher sequence here inspired George Lucas' Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope Garbage Compactor Scene with Luke, Han Leia and Chewie?????????
The Mighty Heroes are true Americans. We do the best we can with the noblest of intentions. Sometimes we can be inept, too. In the end, though we get the job done.
I 've always thought Diaper Man was Bakshi's satirical take on Popeye. Diaper Man not only sounds like Popeye,he also uses a special milk that functions like Popeye's spinach. And he possesses some of Popeye's traits such as strong leadership skills and tenacity.
Thanks for the info. I suspected it was Jack Mercer except I never knew he worked at Terrytoons. Mercer, of course, also voiced Popeye in the King Features Syndicate TV cartoons of the early '60s.
@TIPTON340 Thanks. I was never sure if Mercer did Diaper Man's voice or was it someone trying to sound like a young Popeye. When I first saw this show on Saturday mornings at six years old, I thought "Diaper Man sounds and acts like Popeye."
This series marked the beginning of Bakshi's career. Like the majority of animator's he also started off as an inbetweener/assistant. You all sound like he invented this cartoon or was a director, and that certainly was not the case.
Regardless of what one's opinion of Ralph Bakshi is, this is an excellent series. I loved it as a boy, and now I get to entertain my son with these classic episodes. Thank you for uploading!
I was 8 when this came on..Thanks for posting..I used to love this cartoon. To me, these "old" cartoons look so much better than the junk they put on now..Love them old days....
i remember this when i was about 10, it used to come on with might mouse. it was cool then and it's still cool now. they dont make cartoons like this anymore!!!!
Thank you for posting this!!! This was my favorite cartoon when I was 5 or 6. It's been almost 40 years since I saw this episode, but I remember it well.

Diaper man was Jack Mercer, who voiced
Popeye in all the Max Fliescher and the Hanna-Barbera Popeye cartoons.

In the opening, I always wondered who yelled, "Go Cuckooman! Go!"

Diaper Man would make the prefect spokesman for the California Milk Advisory Board ("Got Milk?") using this cartoon footage, LOL

They really don't make cartoons like this anymore, with the cool poses and well-drawn backgrounds. What a shame.
