I loved this movie. Mostly because i enjoyed the story of grief and dealing with it through the eyes of a kid with all his hang-ups. And Thomas Horn was brilliant in my opinion as he carried the movie for me.
WOW! After hearing so many reviews about how this is a tear jerker I'm so surprised! But knowing the plot of this film, I can see why you said it seems forced. Hmm....very interesting. But it is very awesome you saw Tom Hanks with your own eyes.
The Terminal! He carried on an incredible accent the whole way through, and that movie was not only touching, but seriously entertaining. And I can relate as a 2nd generation immigrant :) Then of course Forrest Gump...and Woody in Toy Story
I love him in Cast Away, that's a good performance: making you believe him all the way, all alone, all slightly crazy there on his island. He's on screen for almost every minute of that long film, and it's just a superior performance! I like that movie a lot. Of course he's fantastic in Forrest Gump, too. What a guy!
Here are my Top five Tom Hanks movies and it's really hard to put them in any order because they're all great. . Philadelphia, Road to Perdition,Forest Gump, The Green Mile and Cast Away.
Very insightful regarding the direction. The kid was probably doing what he was told. Even on the trailer I can hear the direction "ok once more but really big this time"
@limecottage Yes I loved the book and really hoped the movie would come close to it in quality, after seeing this review though it seems that won't be the case. The book was very emotional too but it came about in a natural sort of way, definitely not forced like it seems in the movie.
Stephen Daldry definitely maje Oscar movies. He's a freaking hack and I'm glad that this movie is being criticized. He managed to fool the audience 3 times already. The reader is absolutely garbage.
See, I really hate these kind of movies considered Oscar baits. It's really unfair since the film will never get points for its artistic value and more of whether the film will cause the most tear jerk reactions. This is why The Social Network or Pulp Fiction never won Best Picture because it's whether or not films like this, The King's Speech and Forrest Gump can win the Academy's heart by just triggering a really cheap heartfelt emotion
Hmm...performance wise, it's gotta be Forrest Gump or Philadelphia. (That is, him on screen in a role), but best character he played would definitely be Woody. :) Oh, and that's awesome that Michael Moore was staring at you...he probably didn't listen to Harrison Ford, and was freaked to see you, hehe. ;)
Tom Hanks is my all time favorite actor so its difficult to pick just one . But the performances of his that i really like are from Forest Gump, Castaway, Catch Me if you Can and Toy Story :P.
I love Tom Hanks! He might be my favorite actor, and my favorite movie of his is Toy Story (Woody practically IS Tom Hanks physically, lol). But I don't like movies that try to force emotion (like you said, Lifetime movies).
I was hoping this would be a good movie. Oh well. As for favorite Tom Hanks movies...I'll always have a special place in my heart for That Thing You Do & Catch Me If You Can.
I'm gonna say toss up between Castaway and Catch me if you can, if I think of the Wilson scene though it has to be Castaway. Only Tom Hanks could scream for a volleyball and not only keep it from being laughable but make it genuinely emotional, jmo
It's a shame u didnt like it. I was looking fwd to this, despite the cheesy trailer and what seemed to be a pretty annoying child performance, because I've really enjoyed Daldry's previous work. I saw the trailer for this 3 nights ago at a screening of We Bought A Zoo (which I loved, by the way), and I could tell this was gonna be one of those movies where the performances would be better than the film itself. To be honest, The trailer made me feel that they were ripping off Hugo a little bit (because of the kid with the key), except they threw 9/11 into the mix, and then called it something else. I gotta say that Forrest Gump is my favorite Tom Hanks film.
@MrAVEREX Also, if it's not too much to ask (or rather, if it's not too embaressing to talk about), would you mind elaborating on your staredown with Michael Moore? I feel like there's more that hasn't been said on the ordeal, i'd even go as far as to wonder if enough happened during that staredown for a whole video on the matter.
Ok... So you say that Michael Moore stared at you "for a long time", and then you just move on? You can't just leave us hangin' like that! I want details sir! Please, i am intrigued!
The Terminal...i know that it's not as good as Forest Gump or other movies that Tom Hank's been in, but The Terminal has always been one of my favorite Hanks' movies, and one of my favorite films
Forrest Gump without question! :)

2 Questions:
1. Are pretty much most American movie premieres held in Los Angeles (or both there and NY)? For example, The Dark Knight Rises possibly?
and
2. What other lesser known Tom Hanks films are good besides Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, and Philadelphia?
