Met Lee & group in late 50's @ Gelhart's Ballroom in NE Philly. Smoothest sounding voice EVER and a classy guy-always had time to talk to dancers. We're retired in Tampa Bay area and still play their music at home & in the car.
This song rang through my ears while I was Assaulting Hill 937 May 1969 with my brothers from the 187th INF 101st Airborne It turned out to be a movie called Hamburger Hill !!!!!
Back in the late 1950s, I was working during the summer in Ocean City NJ where Lee Andrews was appearing at an afternoon sock hop. He was launching his solo career at the time.
After he performed he and I took a stroll on the boardwalk and talked about all the great singing groups of the time.
I've never met Lee Andrews , but always-imagined that He would be a Really Nice Person + willing to chat with a Stranger about Music and the Music Biz.
Nat King Cole--Lee Andrews, two peas in a pod. Don't get any better then that. What makes it more outstanding is after 54+ years, Lee is out there singing such beautiful music, Doo-Wop, the greatest sounding music to one's ear.
StripeMister , You are the First Person that I know-of (Other than Myself) to notice the Similarities between Lee Andrews + Nat "King" Cole ... when describing Lee Andrews to Older Folks (Who aren't familiar with the "Doo Wop" Era) , I tell-Them to imagine a Younger Nat "King" Cole singing-Songs in a Rhythm+Blues or Rock+Roll Style.
I am not a doo wop fan but this is a wonderful song. Lee Andrews always had a way with a song. I hope that he has a star on the Philadelphia Walk of Fame.
the GREAT Lee Andrews and that silky smooth voice...SO glad to hear him sound as good as he ever did. Unique not-your-run-of-the-mill Doo Wop song from the 50's...one of my top 5...
Absolute, utter perfection! If there was ever a case for YouTube needing a "Love" button instead of a "Like" button, this is it.
