People just don't put two and two together. Most of us have gotten a painful jolt of static when getting out of the car and touchkng the metal, especially when wearing sweters, sweatshirts, fluffy jackets, etc. It's that same spark that ignites the fuel vapors.
It would be cool to make pump handles with automatic CO² extinguihsers attached in case of fire.
Of course, now that CO² is a planet killer, that might be out of the question
