  • YES! YES! YES! YEEEEES! ;))))

  • Everybody plays fantastically but , for me, Stix Hooper is DYNAMIC !!! My Goodness, what amazing drummming!

  • Call 911, these cats are on FIRE!

  • Larry und Joe sind so gut!

  • incredible, tough, with an fantastic balance of virtuosity and musical wisdom. i loved since decades

  • My ears and eyes just had multiple orgasms.

  • As a keys player - I LOVE Joe Sample in this. Blistering keyboard work.

  • "Must" in my radio shows,...

  • This is a truly inspiring performance, but why is Joe Sample dressed as a woman

  • Stix Hooper was one bad drummer, Larry needed a fire extinguisher!

  • holy leisure suit batman... Larry rules

  • 35 yrs ago and im still amazed with LC

  • おぉーNESBERT HOOPER走っとるなぁww

    でもCooooool!!!!

  • I know this is going to be hard, but try to ignore Carlton's solo and listen to Pops instead. Hook your computer up to the best speakers if you have to, but Popwell's playing behind Carlton is even better than his solo. Damn. Also, how the hell are there 17 dislikes? People who gave up on music after this maybe....

  • @MrDjwage no,, you can't compare them,, Larry wails here, I'm a long time student of Larry's, and he is THE most difficult guitarist to learn! Pops is incredible though, yes, I agree, I was listening to his playing, it was superhot too!

  • @geetarnut Sorry, *Popwell's playing behind Carlton is even better than Popwell's solo.

  • @geetarnut I love Carlton and wouldn't be able to compare his playing to anyone. Especially his work with Steely Dan. I saw him last summer in Milwaukee and I believe his son was playing bass. He's one of the few that could give Popwell a run for his money.

  • Because of the album cover and name of the album, LC's nickname was the "White Knight."

  • If you aren't dancing in your chair to this you are NOT NORMAL!

  • Yeah, this is hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot.

  • stix is like a short order cook during lunchtime with those drums.

  • great vid!

  • Love this Crusaders line-up!!! Larry and Pops just lit a fire in the band!!!

  • Without Wayne Henderson this song loses something..

  • @winpointmedia Without Wayne the "band" itself loses something IMO.

  • I saw them in the 70s opening up for Ohio Players. I love the Players but the Crusaders tore it up.. Stix Hooper kills..

  • damn. joe's synth is bright as hell. sounds like an ebs test. lol

  • Just watched the 2003 version, tame compared to this old one...is that the same keyboard that Joe is in playing in 2003 from 1976??? Looks like it

  • All he needed was another hair do.

  • Larry killing it ... damn the Crusaders were nice as hell

  • No offense to Wilton, but he gets to chill on this one while the rest of the band stretches out and play.

  • larry got postal on this

  • Just woke up in heaven

  • ooh my god at last!! finaly!!! Spiral live ...WITH LARRY!!!!!!

  • "Hi, I'm Larry Carlton and I'm going to play a mind shattering solo...with my eyes closed."

  • Larry Fucking Carlton.

  • Like a runaway train !

  • Dag !

  • FAN...Tastic !

  • fuck you larry carlton, that solo just stole my innocence

  • @phishUMup Yup I gave up guitar after 9 years of playing and turned to bass because of Larry. I actually told LC that when I had the pleasure of meeting him and his son Travis during a gig. After a long stint of playing bass I am back for the last 23 years playing guitar. I also mentioned to Larry that Spiral was my all time favorite solo from anybody. Hope to see him playing again one day.

  • Im 16 years old and some time i wish that people of my age group would appreciate this awesome genre. Lady Gaga can dress like a damn alien but she can never top a true musical performance like this. EVER.

And DAMN!! I've been playing bass guitar for 4 years and i can only dream of ever reaching that level of improvisational skill of the bass player. Carlton's solo was sick.

The Crusaders were the group that got me into jazz in the first place. I'll never get tired of these guys!!!

  • @PersistentResistance well, jazz is basically what started most of what music is today

  • True classic good highway riding jazz

  • Bass Man aint playing no games. One of the best Jams I've seen...

  • stunning. thanks for posting. Simply Stunning I used to play the tennis racket as a kid to Carlton's solo on the Southern Knights LP.

  • This is what it is all about! Joe, Wilton, Stix....and that guitar player. Should have been Wayne Henderson.

  • Carlton got gigs like this because they needed a white guy to get into the country in those days.

  • @DowntownCanon What? These guys were FROM the country!!

  • @kax61 larry carlton

  • I watched this damn thing many times still find it one the most amazing performances to watch that Carlton... Kid Charlemagne when he was indeed the kid in this band... this was one of the jams that got me listening to better music in back in the day..

  • I had to throw water on my monitor.

  • oh, yeah - one of the greatest guitar solos "of all time!" - the night we saw them they had no trombone - and I don't recall that annoying synthesizer - catered dinner in the basement of Mackey Auditorium and big plastic jugs of Heineken draft - sitting in the 15th row in place of a couple of comps that didn't show up - got yer badge? yeah, man! put it where you want it, so far away, chain reaction, stomp and buck, lillies of the nile, when there's love around, my mama told me - that was rich!

  • My brother and I did stage work for these guys in October of '76 - in Boulder, Colo. - a night that changed our ears forever - first time I ever saw a Mesa Boogie - still have the set list I picked up off of Larry's amp - what a night - thanks for the vid!!!

  • Classic Crusaders line up with Mr Larry (Kid Charlemagne) Carlton on electric geetar - Awesome

  • smokin' just love these guys

  • Thanks for posting this! Larry is smokin'!!!!

    Cool duds too. BB

  • OMG !!!!!!!!!! Can't believe no one's commented yet !!!!! this is an absolute treasure !!!! They're burning the meter, really great live cut. LOVE your channel Man !!! Thanks so much for posting ;-)
