I know this is going to be hard, but try to ignore Carlton's solo and listen to Pops instead. Hook your computer up to the best speakers if you have to, but Popwell's playing behind Carlton is even better than his solo. Damn. Also, how the hell are there 17 dislikes? People who gave up on music after this maybe....
@MrDjwage no,, you can't compare them,, Larry wails here, I'm a long time student of Larry's, and he is THE most difficult guitarist to learn! Pops is incredible though, yes, I agree, I was listening to his playing, it was superhot too!
@geetarnut I love Carlton and wouldn't be able to compare his playing to anyone. Especially his work with Steely Dan. I saw him last summer in Milwaukee and I believe his son was playing bass. He's one of the few that could give Popwell a run for his money.
@phishUMup Yup I gave up guitar after 9 years of playing and turned to bass because of Larry. I actually told LC that when I had the pleasure of meeting him and his son Travis during a gig. After a long stint of playing bass I am back for the last 23 years playing guitar. I also mentioned to Larry that Spiral was my all time favorite solo from anybody. Hope to see him playing again one day.
Im 16 years old and some time i wish that people of my age group would appreciate this awesome genre. Lady Gaga can dress like a damn alien but she can never top a true musical performance like this. EVER.
And DAMN!! I've been playing bass guitar for 4 years and i can only dream of ever reaching that level of improvisational skill of the bass player. Carlton's solo was sick.
The Crusaders were the group that got me into jazz in the first place. I'll never get tired of these guys!!!
I watched this damn thing many times still find it one the most amazing performances to watch that Carlton... Kid Charlemagne when he was indeed the kid in this band... this was one of the jams that got me listening to better music in back in the day..
oh, yeah - one of the greatest guitar solos "of all time!" - the night we saw them they had no trombone - and I don't recall that annoying synthesizer - catered dinner in the basement of Mackey Auditorium and big plastic jugs of Heineken draft - sitting in the 15th row in place of a couple of comps that didn't show up - got yer badge? yeah, man! put it where you want it, so far away, chain reaction, stomp and buck, lillies of the nile, when there's love around, my mama told me - that was rich!
My brother and I did stage work for these guys in October of '76 - in Boulder, Colo. - a night that changed our ears forever - first time I ever saw a Mesa Boogie - still have the set list I picked up off of Larry's amp - what a night - thanks for the vid!!!

Because of the album cover and name of the album, LC's nickname was the "White Knight."

@winpointmedia Without Wayne the "band" itself loses something IMO.

No offense to Wilton, but he gets to chill on this one while the rest of the band stretches out and play.
