Shame to here this didn't upset Joe Cocker. I'd prefer it if he cried himself to sleep every night after J.B's impression highlighted J.C's complete lack of talent.
I saw this on television the night it happened. I liked Joe Cocker's version as much or more as the Beatles' version, but John Belushi not only makes it his own - he's also parodying Joe at the time. I remember thinking he would mess it up, but with the backup singers hitting the highs he carries it the whole way just as big as either of the other groups.
The floor spinning move before the PBR guzzle at the end predates breakdancing. John Belushi was a brilliant soul.
read SNL book. besides that cocker said it in an interview on PBS he had no idea they were going to do it and cocker thought they were making fun of him
@fuzzypige222 as a matter of fact, Joe was pissed! when he did SNL he sang and in the middle of it John came out and sang with him and imitated him and Joe didn't speak to him for a long time. thought he was making fun of him. too bad, i understand, but john was soooo good. love them both
It was even more hysterical than the Joe Cocker imitation. He, rather she was sitting in a chair eating chicken then all of a sudden starts choking & self administers the maneuver! It was off the charts hysteria.
Well done, Mr. Belushi. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and seeing this for the first time it's clear that he had a great respect for the artist he mimicked.
If Joe Cocker was your kid, father, brother, would you think Belushi's impersonation would be a tribute or an insult. I was raised to respect others. It's called honor. It would take an asshole to know an asshole, I believe. As for Joe Cocker "loving" Belushi's %*#@&, he was being a gentleman. Stupid is as stupid does. ;]
Alright all of you assholes who THINK your "defending" Joe Cocker, but haven't got a freakin clue.....here's a newz flash, JOE COCKER LOVED BELUSHI'S IMPRESSION, and saw it as one of Belushi's great talents.
IN FACT....he appeared on one of Belushi's skits and played along. SEE VIDEO IN VIDEO RESPONSES.....learn about it before you cry about it.
Joe and John would laugh at the stupidity of your STUPIDITY. haha....
That was the last time I watched SNL. Sucked...too big of a Joe Cocker fan....never liked Belushi so there ...rymes with sushi for a reason....and no, I'm too old to have a sense of humor, HA ;]
it amazes me that some people have no sense of humor.
it tickles me some of those people have no clue.
it makes me laugh outfrigging loud that some of those same people are extremely overwrought in thinking that this is in someway disrespectful of Joe Cocker or whatever they are thinking.
it pisses me off that some people are so judgemental.
LOL It's almost like the musics hitting him in the face! It's amazing, he makes the most rediculous faces, you don't expect such a great voice to come out!
That was either a great lip sync job or he was able to make his voice do many bizarre things.. I watched that skit the Saturday night it originally aired and I'm still cracking up today! He was a pisser of pissers. Too bed he's been gone for nearly 30 years. He was a rare comedic talent, meaning he made people laugh their butts off! His Liz Taylor was awesome too.
@714AD See I wasn't planning on staying on youtube long today until you mentioned his impersonation of Liz Taylor, now I'm searching for that too! lol
John Belushi was on SNL with the original cast from 1975 to 1980 .... They were brilliant !! ....... Among them, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Gilda Radner Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase (who left after 1 season), Garrett Morris, and Bill Murray (replaced Chevy Chase in 2nd season), ,
Precursor to Chris Farley...? I'm not saying Chris Farley was unoriginal, just saying he and John Belushi had similarities in style. Some of them were unfortunate. May both of them Rest in Peace.
i was there watching SNL in theh day..this was funnnnny shit, i hope Joe got a laugh too - if you cant laugh at comedy go die in a corner, no one will care about youre tiresome self, you know who you are.....zzz boring to say the least...hope your cat loves you hohum,, wtf a name is that??, nah i dont really care if your cat loes you or if you die in a corner...eat more bran
@fuzzypige222 Thanks for the example of insensitivity and shallowness making fun of someone while they were down and in need of help..... again, I can't find any humor in this. Don't get so occupied by people dying in corners...no impact on you. People in trouble "get by with a little help from their friends" and kind people.
Can't continue to watch insensitivity and shallowness making fun of someone while they were down and in need of help..... can't find any humor in this.
(almost) Anybody can sing. What's hard about it is learning what's right to sing. Joe Cocker is an inspiration. John Belushi is a damn force of nature. He got the voice so tight, man.
Omgsh how can you mistake that for Cocker? Listen to one of Cockers LIVE songs and then place your judgment correctly. Belushi's head voice is Joe Cocker's chest voice.... Cocker does not have to push those high notes nearly that hard
@darncellphone Way tobe a asshole. It's from Saturday Night Live...it's a sketch. Jon Belushi was the man, and so far I have never seen any pull off Joe Cocker like he did.
Belushi was actually part of a troupe along with Chevy Chase who did musical impressions before SNL. John played Cocker of course, Chevy was Jim Morrison.
Darn, this isn't the one with both John and Joe Cocker on stage together. John is dressed just like him. It's on the DVDs of the history of SNL from 1975. So funny though.
Awesome! Absolutely awesome. One of my favorite skits from the early days of SNL. My husband and I were lucky enough to be in the audience with the original cast during the early days of SNL. Good times... RIP
"Was it over when the...the Germans bombed pearl Harbor?" What a fantastic and hilarious rendition of Joe Cocker by Belushi. He was truly one of a kind! You are missed my friend!
If you find this vid with better sound quality you can hear that Belushi actually sings this song pretty good. My father had a tape with all the old SNL skits. I grew up watching this stuff. Those were some great days. 7 years old and I was already exposed to some of the greatest comedians. Thanks pops.

Now, I do like a good joke, but here John makes a mockery of the passion of an artist like Joe Cocker and Joe's disregard for appearances for the ultimate expression of that passion, and that is unfortunate. It's a retarding influence of an excellent and rare trait in people, and for that, a big fat thumbs down, John. Acts of mockery by critics and strong personalities influence weaker people and cultures, and should be reserved for cultural or individual traits that you do want to retard.
this isn't funny, what if Joe Cocker had suffered from something that he couldn't control his mannerisms? This was not funny by any stretch because of how Joe Cocker gets when it comes to his music.

@JohnGunnPI FYI there's a video where Joe Cocker sung this song TOGETHER with Belushi while Belushi was acting like this. I ended up here while looking for that very vid which seems to have disappeared from youtube.
And i dont want this to turn into a "what couldve been done" argument, the fact is that he's gone, and theres nothing we can do about it except cherish his amazing talents that are showcased here perfectly. RIP john we all miss you very much.
Nobody got john hooked on drugs, john got himself hooked on drugs. I love him a lot and i wish he was still with us today, but his wife judy and a lot of his friends spent years trying to find a reason why he died and did what he did, and blaming people did no good, in the end, john was gonna do what john was gonna do. It really sucks but thats the sad reality
If I can find the person who got John hooked to drugs I would beat the ever loving shit out of him. He deserved help and his friends and family should of gave him the support he needed to kick the habit.
dear bxbuff i am as pissed off as we all are at him. how dare he do that to himself and rob us of his talents. chris farley followed that same path as did freddie prinze before john. goddammit!!!
my girlfriend and i watched this original broadcast on the netflix and she thought it was funny. right after, i showed her the joe cocker video from woodstock..
Paul McCartney paid Belushi something like 6k to do this at his birthday party. Which was probably pretty good money in '78, and a lot more then John was making at SNL, although a lot of the other cast members said Belushi would have done it for free.
uhhm he left becuse he did heroin....too bad for us and for him....when you mix heroin with speed aND alchohol your brain get so confused you die...got it??!!! no lung function, no heart function, sort of nada..no more tv, no refiridgerator, no pizza, no couch, you're gone...poof...no
Yeah Ive been trying to find that clip with Cocker when he comes out and sings with Belushi! Its great stuff, Belushi actually does a great job capturing Cockers sound and moves lol
why is everyone complaing about this? dont you people know imitation is the best form of flattery (or however it goes) and joe cocker liked this anyways so stop saying its mean and not cool.

Paul McCartney paid Belushi something like 6k to do this at his birthday party. Which was probably pretty good money in '78, and a lot more then John was making at SNL, although a lot of the other cast members said Belushi would have done it for free.

Damn John could sing.

How many Belushi's do you have? 3? I thought John, Jim and James Belushi. Or am i wrong?

@liquidrtype: Oy vey, whatever. That's Cocker's voice. LOL
greatestgoalie25 4 months ago
@greatestgoalie25 >> Oh, no. It was Belushi. He actually could sing and later did a duet with Cocker because he was that good.
QueenOnlyMe 4 months ago
@liquidrtype That is Joe Cocker singing...he just let Belushi mouth the words while he was in the background singing it.
TheSunnyfanatic 3 months ago
@TheSunnyfanatic No it isn't. At all. Belushi did this many times, & Cocker wasn't there any of them.
He was a damn good singer in his own right. Watch blues brothers.

That's correct. John did this with Joe Cocker on Saturday Night Live. I remember watching it. It was too funny.
