  • his last solo :(

  • John the `Magic Hands` Entwhistle......

  • "50 million notes at once!" - Roger Daltrey

  • where are his fingers alls i see is a v10 engine in his hands

  • John Entwistle was voted BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM

  • This is from February 7, 2002 show at the Royal Albert Hall, simply brilliant!

  • did anybody see an explosion at the end.... the drums?

  • it's the lights

  • I think Pete bowing to John at the end is pretty cool....

  • oh yeah, John deserved it:)

  • @momofotis2

    Me too. XD

  • ~~F~A~N~T~A~S~T~I~C~~

  • BEAST! NUFF SAID!

  • The Who is one of those few bands were everyone in the lineup can be considered fucking amazing. Think about it, Entwistle, well, just watch the video and youll see what i mean, Townshend, has so much energy and an extremely talented writer, Moon, the best drummer of all time hands down, nobody played the drums like him at that time, and Daltrey, a powerful singer

  • The Who greatest live rock n roll band. John Entwistle voted BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM.

  • yeah i know! :D ,but witch millenium? :/

  • ALL OF THEM

  • The Who, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dream Theater, they all kick fucking ass, man!

  • i'm agree with you

i think led zeppelin can be considerated another band were everyone is a genius

  • Comment removed

  • you think thats easy?

  • No thats not what i said.

  • Was this given thumbs down for his opinion or for his spelling? Because Led Zeppelin is definitely "genius". Both The Who and Led Zeppelin are.

  • @roloman4 Daltrey the greatest frontman, and Pete the greatest singer/songwriter/all around musician/showman/producer/

  • Everytime I watch one of his 5:15 solos i get goosebumps!

  • he was the single most inspirational bassist ever for players everywhere hesprobally tearin in up in heaven now RIP

  • hes the GODKING

  • Acctualy, Enwistle kicks good 'ol god in the nuts with his bassplaying. ;)

  • Normally I would find something like that offending, but for John I can't let it slide because you are soooo right!

  • this is 5:15 right?

  • one of his best solo's...this is how it should be done

  • Unique band. The lead instrument was the bass, the drums were rhythm, and the guitar was mostly percussion.

  • Good grief! So awesome! Pete's bow is so sweet and cute! RIP Johnny and Keef!

  • the only bass players left that sound good is geddy chris squire billy shehan les claypool flea victor wooten but john will always be the top to me the true hendrix of bass

  • R.I.P John and Keith

  • found a new hobby making coffee tables out of my basses lmao hes greathe on a list all of his own

  • GOOD GOD! (anybody wanna buy a bass....cheap) just kidding.

  • Entwistle and Cliff Burton were Gods

  • only entwistle..cliff is overrated

  • Geddy Lee?

  • Entwistle, Lee, Burton, and Harris are my biggest influences to play thrash metal with my fingers, i now play lightning fast and am still not as good as them but they all have helped every metal bassists technique there is no deneying it

  • love it when pete bows to john at the end.shows that even though they had their conflicts there was still total respect

  • My God, He made me want to pick up bass when I was 9, and now he's made me want to set it down. PERMANENTLY. There will never be anyone comparable to The () )(.

  • i cant believe wooten hasnt come up in here. wooten IMO is the equal or john. Not to start any wars but can some people share their opinions about Wooten compared to john becuase im not sure if he may be better becuase hes all solos while wooten is all soul and technique and john is pure awesome. its tough.

  • shikaguy, That's funny. I find Wooten to be a product of the technique over music school. Sure he's an amazing player, but I would never hum one of his tunes. Personally, give me Verdine White anyday.

  • I listen to the flecktones all the time. listen to the song stomping ground

  • roger waters is good, one of the best, but we're comparing a 9mm to a .50 cal armor piercing when comparing waters to entwistle. he's amazing.

  • i play bass... and seriously John comparedto me is like the eiffel tower compared to a slug lol

  • Anybody who can`t see the talent this man had and criticizes him , is either deaf or jealous.

  • the book has officially been wrote after seeing this

  • How true, matrat911.

  • You don't see Geddy ripping 2:30 solos in concert. He just does triples and fast scales.

  • You guys have to remember. He is the number 1 most influential bassist of all time. I think he is the number 1 bassist of all time due to the fact that he was a pioneer. No one stacks up to him. You can't base your opinions off of what you hear on CD's. The music sounds okay on a CD but live is when you REALLY get your chance to shine.

  • Well said snipergross. He "invented" a style, techniques and entirely different level, by which others followed. Even Geddy Lee says John E. was his inspiration. He's simply amazing. "THE" Rock Bassist...

  • But Mr.John Entwistle is No1...!!!and Him will be No1 Forever!!!!!!!!GOOD BLESS JOHN!!!

  • ENWHISTLE = LEGEND...R.I.P.

  • wonderful

  • great...

  • U'd be correct, they probably haven't. Also, this guy only ever needed 4 strings to sound like the voice of God. ALL those other speed freaks bow to the magnificence that WAS John Entwistle.

  • You're absolutely correct. John is the BASSIST's Bassist. Picking up a bass and trying to comprehend Ox is MUCH different than just listening to music over all. The music died when John died. R.I.P

  • well not all the music, but you're right :)

  • I will go ahead and guess that the person below has never picked up a bass and tried to do more than strum a couple of chords.

  • Yeah well I have, and I agree with him.

This is fine, rockin music, but as pure bass I don't get what people see. At least Zep bass lines said something instead of "more volume". What is he trying to say?

Maybe this guy was a pioneer at the time, but trying to hold him up against even Geddy Lee today fails IMO. Let alone Marcus, Larry Graham, James Jamerson, JPJ, anyone who ever played with Maceo Parker, etc. etc.

There's a world of groove out there.

  • Look at something like Pinball Wizard or even I Can See For Miles. Even when he gets almost no breathing room, his basslines hold up to scrutiny.

  • One thing to remember is that many of today's bassists point to John as an inspiration. Entwistle was definitely a pioneer at the time, and this video doesn't really do justice to the fact that he introduced an entire style (along with JPJ and others) of backing up guitar with melodic lines. Listen to some of The Who's music. You'll find yourself rocking, and then saying, "Hey, what's that sexy low end I hear?" You'll crank up the bass and start to drool. That's why Entwistle is significant.

  • Another way to put it: even Pete's of ability to play guitar didn't hold back the Who. Why? I think you can see why watching this video.

No! The video does not do this piece of fine bass work any justice at all.

  • This is one song. If you listen to The Who's music, you would realize that he was the most important instrument in the band. He did more for bass guitarists than anyone. He changed the instrument.

  • "he realized he had the power to change the fucking instrument"- pete townshend

  • "change... the FUCKING instrument!"

  • i kno ppl have put a thunbs down but i know where u got that from. thats like my fav line of that whole movie

  • Yeah, the Who have a lot of really good documentaries. It's how my dad showed me what my favorite band was like back during their best years.

  • Uhhh, this guy isn't the best. You're forgetting Victor Wooten, Louis Johnson, Marcus Miller, Paul McCartney, Chuck Rainey, Anthony Jackson, Larry Graham, Booty Collins, Flea....

  • victor wooten isnt this fast and creative, larry graham is so near here but he isnt straigth to the point like john entwistle and the other guys are really gifted but they arent in this league

  • Idk. Victor's classical thump was the fatest bass i've ever heard and he is very damn creative with his double thumb technique

  • John was rated the no.1 Bassist of the millennium by Rolling Stone, above even Paul Mcartney.

  • By rolling stone magazine? that magizine's opinions and best of lists are often bullshit. on the 100 best guitar players of all time they put kurt cobain at 12 above carlos santana and eddie van halen at 70. They are waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy to opinionated

  • 35TCK... AMEN! Rolling Stone doesn't know jack about rock and roll. I too saw their guitarist list: it was the dumbest I've ever seen! Page was only at like 9 and Cobain at 12? Everyone who knows their rock knows that Cobain was nowhere near that good.

  • Well, it wasn't Rolling Stone critics who choose them. They usually get a lot of people to vote. I agree though, the lists aren't much more than just a way to learn about bands that are at least worth a listen.

  • Paul McCartney wasn't that good of a bassist he was in a great band and wrote great songs but actual talent as a bass player wasnt all that great. Rolling Stones lists are never really that good. For best bassists of all time check out people like Jaco and Jamerson.

  • He wasn't technically proficient, but as a songwriter he was able to bring the bass out from the background and turn it into a melodic instrument in it's own right rather than just the link between the drums and the melody. That was his major contribution. Back in his day, the bass line on something like "Obla Di Obla Da (Life Goes On)" was considered revolutionary.

  • I would agree that basslines like "Obla Di Obla Da (Life Goes On)" brought the bass out to be heard. But the bassline itself isn't much more then Root major 3rd 5th which is pretty basic. What i was trying to say was his talent wasn't all that great and I wouldn't say he was the first to bring bass into the melody. Don't get me wrong I like McCartney but I certainly would not put him high up there in the greatest bassists of all time.Sorry for rambling thanks for the reply rocky.

  • mcCartney introduced the melodic bass playing didnt you know that?? that's why he is always on the list of all time greatest bassists. he is not the top but he contributed and influence many bassists too. by the way entwistle is the greatest rock bassist! hehe

  • John pioneered the Bass, Paul played it.

  • And Jaco pastorius. He was one of the great great bass players

  • Squire, Gedy Lee, Entwistle, Wetton & Lake (The best ever)

  • I would add Mel Schacher (Grand Funk)

  • Hat of to John, the "ace on bass"

  • thunder fingers is GOD...i love it that pete bowed to him at the very end. lol great footage

  • Entwhistle, Squire, and Jack Bruce were the best that ever lived

  • squire, pastorius. the best

  • He was not human. He will sleep in peace with the other heroes

  • Best bassist ever! Hands down

  • Boris the Spider Lives!!
