  • BEST EVER COVER OF WEILL'S MASTERPIECE!

THANKS LOU OF MY ADOLESCENCE FOR COMFORTING ME THROUGH MIDDLE AGE :)

  • wow, this is NOTHING like the album version which I prefer

  • That's John Cale on bass. I think this is from the Velvets reunion in the 90s.

  • @gadflyonthewall001

No it´s not John Cale and it´s not the Velvets

  • This is as bad as William Shatner.

  • @themattster1991 troll

  • Respond to this video... Amazing Cover!

  • This song starts laid back, but builds up intensity. Lou's guitar solo is gorgeous!

  • For its a long, long while, from May to December

And the days grow short, when you reach September

  • With respect to one of my favorite artists, Lou can be a drag when he drones on, as he does here. The irony is that his other version of September song is a near-masterpiece. He puts a lot of heart into that version.

  • this isn't NEARLY as good as the cover of the song Reed did on the "Lost in the Stars" WEill tribute album

  • @fanofprotopic I have to agree. As much as I like Lou Reed's earlier cover, this would be better just as a blues instrumental.

  • is that clapton?

  • It's Greg Cohen on the upright bass, ins't it?

  • I love this song. I like close my eyes and only listening.

  • the fingers at 3:58 do not belong to that bass player......

  • take a walk on the weill side!

  • @Eivob LOVE IT!!! Big Weill fan here, so I'm stealing that...:)

  • This isn't the version from the Lost in the Stars album I used to have. He played a much more upbeat version and I can't find it anywhere. It's so frustrating because it was such a good song...

  • Just goes to show some ppl will sing anything 4 money. Is Lou already dead or just thinking abt it.? I love this song and Kurt Weill and I have seen it done by many different artists. Look at Jeff Lynne's version and he makes Lou look lame. What more can I say?

  • @slessorpr any version would make this look lame. lou reed if tone deaf and should be banned from singing altogether...especially other people's songs.

  • One of his best...thanks, very moving

  • searching for this for years...

    thanks

  • Se non lo conoscete, vi consiglio il film :

    September song.

    Un'opera d'arte

  • dove posso trovare il dvd da acquistare?

  • is that greg cohen on DB?

  • Yes - it is the great Greg Cohen... who is also a wonderful guy as well as superb bass player.

  • awesome !

  • Pretty song!

  • This ti SO boring! there is a much better version by lou!

  • hv u got a link?

    i don't think it's boring

  • I haven't got it. It might be from an album named: "Lost In The Stars: The Music of Kurt Weill", but I'm not sure.

  • Lou Reed does do a cover of September Song on that album, but its a different, faster arrangement (and he sings).

  • wow who's the midget on the drums

  • Danny Frankel

Danke Leute!

  • The version of September Song you wanna hear was recorded for "Lost in the Stars" a compilation of Kurt Weill songs. It is a really remarkable album.

  • Lou is great

  • It would be just an okay cover, but at 2:45 the intensity of the band and the music and everything clicks perfectly, it made the song quite good for me.

  • I didn't like this one by Lou....a great song but sounds like a micky take of someone doing a version of how Lou Reed would do it. butchered. sorry Lou.

    Better luck next time. lol.

  • Woah Lou Reed is like a certain version of Neil Young - they are both on par.

  • That's one ugly drummer. Is it Cale on upright bass? Good song, nice chord changes.

  • no its some other cat, though the patchy video quality kinda make him look like it...and the other guitarist like eric clapton sporting a beard.

  • yea they're like copy cats or is it copycats?

  • teehee :)

  • as i watched, i became irritated with the liberties reed had taken with one of my favorite songs. but the dread he works up in the chorus won me over. a classic reinterpretation i think.

  • !Qué bello....! Really beautiful!

  • Reeds version on the Weill tribute album is vastly superior to this.

  • Well, it depends whether you want a faster, more upbeat 1985 Reed sound or a more langourous, sensuous, 1994 Reed sound... both are great. But then, most things by Lou Reed are...

  • I would say objectively that this is one of the greatest performances/recordings of any musical genre in history... Weill should be honored that Reed approached his inspiration with so much artistry

  • Very much agree but he has so many good songs. he's a big influence on my own songs too.

I love the "Berlin" album. But on the same token, i love love the "White Light White Heat" album with the Velvet Underground.

This is a great song though.

  • do you just go through every september song on youtube commenting them?

  • Great song by uncle Lou!!

  • how come i cant find that song!u kno......well somewhere it goes ba do wa do ba do wa

  • it's the music as much as Lou Reed's almost-deadpan voice which makes this such a very satisfying version of a lovely song

  • goosebumps all over

  • really really bautiful

  • Lou reed is one of the few artists in the world of music

  • My grandma and I watched this on PBS together. She used to play this on the piano. She was really touched by Lou Reed. Love you Lou

  • Fantastically dreary. I love it!

  • How can you say there is an original?

  • we love Lou. Lou Reed sucks.

  • ohhh nooo!! i already know the lyrics sing them sing the M-E-L-O-D-Y lol man that song is ruined now

  • Lou has emphasized the lyric within the basic structure of the original song. Ruined it? While I love the original, I think what he has done is re-imagine the tune in his own inimitable style.

  • Brilliant.

  • specialurad Psixastvis)))

  • What happened to the beautiful melody of this song????

  • there is another version of that cover. one more "rock and roll"...

  • nov dec planet of the apes es

  • sad demonstration of demolition of a melody

  • "And I think it's gonna be a long, long time... 'Til touchdown brings be 'round again to find, I'm not the man they think I am at home, Oh no no no! I'm William... Shatner."

  • i dont get it, plus elton suxxxxxxxxx

  • hes always done that, slow things, speed them up so what, its his song es

  • Maxwell Anderson wrote the lyrics - give the guy some credit

  • one of my favorites songs of weill, Lou is the best poet.

  • not his song

  • Last night I dreamed I was Lou Reed. Jeff Yost... Google that one up.
