The are all great singers, or they would not be with the Gaithers. On some songs, I prefer one singer to another, but enjoy the music and the message no matter who is singing it. As for the "show" as is described here, to me it is them enjoying what they are doing. Who would not love to have a job that they are good at, they enjoy, and they present a message for all?

Wes Hampton has more class than any singer or former singer with the Gaithers, Ernie Hasse and his bunch that looks and acts like a bunch of street bums in their rags that they sing in. why do people give people thumbs down when they say wes is good? some of you are being unfair, wes DOES have a beautiful voice. I saw a gaither concert and wes was there of course and he sang the lead on a beautiful song called "theres always a place at the table" and I was blown away and on "because he lives" he hits a high note I didnt know he could. David is special and he'll never be replaced, but I have room enough for both of them in my heart. Be kind! people are allowed to like both!! :)

One of the wonderful things about Bill Gaither is the great number of incredibly gifted people he has enabled people all over the world to see & hear, for as long as the video's, dvd's, & cd's remain. David and Wes are both gifted by God and we should concentrate on the message and enjoy the music but if you have to compare, I'd go with the original --- David, anytime, all the time --- has proven his artistry, versatility and clarity of lyrics, which is most important in imparting a message. In my opinion, Wes Hampton tackled this song in a way that even David Phelps wasn't able to do. The Gaither Vocal Band is finally a group that likes to give and take at different times. There isn't just one person who gets all the solos. Wes Hampton may not have the highest voice, but he sure does have one of the best. He is fantastic!

I would be reticent to say that he 'tackled this song in a way that even David Phelps wasn't able to do'. Where is the F(5) like David hit in the final chorus of his version? David even hit more C(5)s in his version than Wes did. I like Wes...he's a great tenor...and he is doing great, but I sometimes can't help but feel sorry for him with regard to the shoes that he had to fill. God bless.
