  • Thankyou John :) that was VERY illuminating and edifying and comforting. bless you and your ministry. stay humble before the Lord. and thankyou for your dedication to the Word of God. i have listened to many of your sermons, and you have been of enormous strength to me. bless you.

  • pipper is an ex pedo..

  • @erubians1 Its good to see your comment is so rooted in biblical truth. Well done!!!

  • @erubians1 For someone who likes so many Christian songs, you sure hate a lot on Christians.I don't know what's up, but I can assure you that going around on Piper's videos and bashing him does not glorify God and bless others. Anyways, in the end, it's not about who is talking, but it's about God. Even if John Piper was the most evil person in the world, he's a man of God now. Paul murdered Christians. He killed Stephen. Then he encountered Christ and spread the Gospel in a way few have. PTL

  • @erubians1 good job this guys name is Piper otherwise he would have a bad reputation! Peace

  • that's awesome thank you pastor for the words of truth

  • Thanks be to the true God for John Piper. There are just so many verses like that one that are being taken out of context. It's time for all of us to face the reality of what is truly written in God's Word and just accept it. These false teachings are only distorting God's Holy Word and twisting it. It was hard for me to accept as well until I started listening to sound biblical doctrine taught by John Piper, John MacArthur and Paul Washer. It is setting me free.

  • How much glory does a general get if he had soldiers who were torn up, beat up, beat down, dirt poor, dirty and near death with disease?

Do you really have such a perverted view of a good Father?

Health/wealth/prosperity IS biblical. It should also be a byproduct of Kingdom stewardship/faithfulness, not the focus.

"Name it claim it" does have biblical precedence, but James 4:3 is very clear.

  • @whizzpopping What sort of soldier is so arrogant as to think they should have a higher standard of life than their general? Was not Jesus torn up, beat up, dirt poor, dirty? Was his life not all about setting his riches completely aside and enduring shame and rejection for the sake of God's glory and man's salvation (Phil 2)? Are we not called to follow him? This is not saying that we should always be poor and miserable, but that prosperity for all believers is not biblical, given Jesus example

  • @MattinatorHax

"Was not Jesus torn up, beat up, dirt poor, dirty?"

    Jesus never got sick.

Why does someone torn/beat up, dirt poor, dirty need a treasurer? How does someone like that meet with the religious elite of their day? Wise men bringing gold and other gifts to someone dirt poor and dirty? Really? Being invited to a wedding?

His life and purpose was to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8) and to set captives free (Luke 4:18)

Phil 2:7 is specific, nothing to do with "riches".

  • If believing God for wealth health and victory is wrong then the bible is wrong; Deut 8:18 ,Deut 28 are wrong,John 10:10,1 John 3:8 are wrong, 2 Corinthianss 8:9,2 Corinth 9:8 are wrong,Act 10:38,1 Timothy 4:8 are wrong and the list goes endlessly. Genesis 1&2 which show us the original plan of God is wrongif health and wealth concept is wrong.the bible in context is for life enhancement and not for expecting calamities.

  • @yinksman The list does go on endlessly when you misuse the bible. The Deuteronomy verses come under the Old Covenant, which we are not under. 1 John 3:8 is irrelevant, Acts 10:38 mentions the fact that Jesus healed, but doesn't set up full health as normative. You pulled 1 Tim 4:8 out of context, 2 Cor 9:8 talks about having what you need but not prosperity, and when reading 2 Cor 8 you missed verse 1, where it talks about poor believers.

  • (cont) In bringing up Genesis 1+2, you ignored chapter three, where it talks about God cursing the earth and making it toil for people to live and work on (and it is still in that state, waiting until it is renewed - Romans 8).

And Jesus himself expected calamities for all those who would follow him: John 16:33. Paul talked about living in need and hunger at times (Phil 4:10-13), and talks about being in strife in 2 Cor 12:7-10. 1 Peter 4 also rebukes a church for being surprised at suffering.

  • John 21:19

Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!"

TheProphetsWereMen, It sounds to me like this is very Biblical, it's in the BIble and God got glory in seeing Peter die for the cause of Christ.

Also in the sermon in the mount, Jesus said that blessings would be on them who suffered persecution for His name's sake.

  • NO YOU IDIOT. That is not what that bible verse means. Let's read a few verses before that statement.

    Matthew 6:31-32

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

    NOW

    Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  • So from Matthew 6:31-32 we understand that Matthew 6:33 is specifically talking about FOOD, DRINK, CLOTHES. Let's continue....

  • Matthew 6:26-28

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

  • In Matthew 6:26-28 Jesus is saying he even takes care of the needs of animals how much more will he take care of your needs.

So I agree with Piper on that part, because, YES, God does take care of our needs. But let's read the next verse it's my favorite...

  • Matthew 6:29-30

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

See, God's not ONLY going to meet our needs, but he's going to take it a step further. And array us with these needs even more than Soloman! Is John, it's not just meeting a need, it is going above the need.

  • God calls some people to glorify him by dying?

God get's NO glory from His people dying. The devil does. Think of it like this: If you are dead, what good can you do for the kingdom? How many people could you preach the gospel to? How many poor people could you help? Answer: Nothing! You're dead!

This man is off his rocker!

  • You call that the "Good News?" Sounds more like "Bad News" to me. Who would want to serve a God that wants you to die just so He could "get the glory." It's not a very pretty picture you're painting for the unbeliever.

  • Come home, Come home.

Ye who are weary, come home.

    Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

Calling o' sinner come home.....to DIE.

  • Piper's Motto: Life sucks and then you die.

  • Ah according to Piper's website, he is a Baptist. That explains everything. It's his job to make sure nobody enjoys an abundant life. Silly Baptist, the bible is for believers.

  • "God get's NO glory from His people dying. The devil does."

So you mean that all the martyrs' death were for glory of Devil?

  • If Jesus had been sick, he would have been under the bond of the Devil. That's where Jesus said sickness and disease come from, and the only time that Jesus ever suffer poverty was when he died on the cross. So, I hope people don't take Pastor Piper the wrong way and think that being poor is God's will. God's will is not for you to be greedy and chase money, but through him, you can be blessed to be a blessing to others. Whether it be giving your time, food, money, spiritual gifts, etc.

  • I understand exactly what you all mean. I don't agree with anyone that says "If you don't have a yacht, then you're not in the will of God." I do think that it is the will of God that all our needs be met, and we not live in poverty, or sickness and disease. I think there is a great deal of false humility that people can tend to get when they suffer poverty, and they often say "I'm suffering with Christ." Where in the Bible does it ever say that Jesus was poor? How about sick? Never

  • nice faith-nice spirit uplifting-nice god and every since i said yes jesus -well wheres justice yes he promised even hereand in the word of truth!

  • Hi all I wish you all uinderstand the reason why God gives. God gives so we can give to the poor and that there should be equality read Jacob 2:18-19. Today people are so greedy of self enrichment why this gospel is incorrect it promotes greed.

  • Abraham a wealth of livestock, silver, and gold if it was just going to hinder him from making it to the kingdom of heaven? Why would God set Abraham up for failure, becuase if what you've been saying is true, then that's exactly what he did? I'm not trying to get smart with anybody, I just want to know. If anyone can answer my question it would be very appreciated.

    Thank you and God bless

  • Jesus not Piper said it will be easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle then a rich man to enter into heaven. If we have all we need we tend to no rely of Christ for our being. This is what Piper is telling us. Abrham was not set up to fail God gave him what he needed to be a blessing to others.

  • Jeff:- I see where you are coming from remember God knows all of our hearts, Abraham was chosen of God, God knew Abraham's heart, now you cant want to compare yourself to Abraham. Remember God never blesses everyone in the bible with Riches. John loved God but John was beheaded. Instead of seeking what you think you deserve seek the Kingdom of God instead. Let God choose and decide for you, remember we are not called to be all rich

  • Pardon me, I'd never heard of Pastor Piper until a few days ago, but from what I seen some of what he's saying just doesn't add up to me. Not one should be bogged down in riches; I completely understand that. But in one of his other videos he stated that it is easier for a Camel to make it through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to make it to heaven. But my question, going off what he's been say is: If the case of having riches makes it harder to get into heaven, then why did God give

  • GOD CALLS PEOPLE TO DIE TO GLORYFY HIM! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! This guy does not know my father! My daddy is a good daddy!

  • Have you ever read the testimonies of Christians suffering persecution, torture to the point of death? Where is your Daddy there? He certainly is there but in a very different way from how you perceive. As S, M & A said before entering the fire, whether God saves us or not, He is still God.

  • you are so right. God is still God in the mist of persecution. He said that we would recieve persecution for his name sake, but at the same time, GOD does not "call" people to die, in order for Him to get glory! What glorify's God is when we walk in the paths of rightiousness for His name sake!

  • Obviously the biggest example of God haveing death for his glory is our example of Jesus.

Which is what we should wanna do!

  • Ha, that sound's so spiritual! Yet, i bet you ain't giving God any glory by puttin' yourself in a position to DIE are you? Are you in the crackhouses, on the corner in the hood, in the trailor parks sharing the gospel? Guess you don't wanna glority god do u?

  • You dont even know me. Listen here kingdom "swag". You prolly never had real swag, I bought 27 inch rims with 5 grand cash in 20$ bills. I was raised in a trailor, hung out with crack dealers and share the GOSPEL with people I used to know now. Unlike you I know real killers.

Are you a little kid? I have seen someone else ask you, but it does seem that way.

That is the JOY of a true disciple is to look forward to leaving this world in martyrdom.

I dont want the "swag" of this world.

  • well, go ahead and be a martyr! Im gonna "live and not die and declare the works of the Lord"! Oh, i see you are boasting about what you did in the world.....are you glorifying that lifestyle? Oh yeah, i am a kid.....a kingdom kid, with plenty of swagg!

  • No if you read it correctly you would see I want nothing to do with my old life. You just made a false statement about me.

Jesus doesn't produce swagg...Jesus produces humility.

  • Exactly, humility is when you submit 2 what God has said about u.God said that if we harken diligently 2 his word,we shall b the head and not da tail, above only n not beneath.Jesus said that we r da light of the world, the salt of da earth, a city on a hill that cannot be hid.God says that we are da rightiousness of God by Christ Jesus.God said that he works n us 2 will and 2 do of HIS good pleasure! When you have a revelation of these things, u have not other choice but 2 hav a KINGDOM SWAGG!

  • I walk around with my chest out because i know that God loves me. I have a kingdom swagg because i know that i am the light of the world. I walk with my head high because i know i have been redeemed from the curse!

  • Look's like you walk around in a way that no apostle or Jesus himself walked.

  • Are you serious? Jesus stood flatfooted and told the multitudes "I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD! "I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE"! Jesus was God contious. He had security in His Father. When you are God contious, rather than self contious, you will be bold and confident. I used to have low self-esteem until I learned who i was in Christ, what i had in Christ, and what I can do in Christ. When you learn these things yourself, you will walk with your chest out also. BOLDNESS glorifies God!

  • Jesus was bold in the message God gave him. Not his lifestyle.

Luke 9:58And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Jesus didn't walk around with his chest poked out. He spoke the truth of God.

  • Listen swagg, money is a means for ministry, nothing more nothing less. God is there for us whether we are rich or poor. It doesn't matter, He sees us as we really are. And walking around chest puffed head high isn't God glorifying, getting down into the mud and dirt and dregs of society and sharing them FREEDOM and WHOLENESS through Christ. Stained glass and carpet floors are great, but who fills the room? the broken hearted sinners, who put there hop in the cross

  • what u r saying is very tru. But if your head is held down, and your self esteem is in the trash can, do u think those that are in the mud and dirt will want to follow u?

  • You don't know anything about myself esteem or about me, that's not the point. Who has a better more believeable ministry a man in a bmw rolls royce, learjet, rolex's, and armani suits? Or the man who forsook all of that, all those potential things, and shared the Gospel at risk of his own life?

  • great sermon.

now if only john piper would speak out on mark driscoll's smutty sermons and bad behavior

  • FYI Billie - Piper likes Driscoll so I don't think your request will be answered. Sorry...go spread your disunity elsewhere.

  • so using discernment and concerned what is happenin in the church = "disunity"

    man, are you misinformed

  • "Discernment" and "misinformed" c'mon Billie. Piper invited Driscoll to the latest conference he held precisely because of the way Driscoll communicates. Maybe you should use your discernment to inform yourself. You can have the last word - not interested in arguing here. There are far more important things to spend time on. :)

  • layguy, why does john piper not rebuke driscoll for his smut preaching

john piper by not speaking out either way on driscoll's antics makes john piper look bad

  • He doesn't look bad to me!

  • smutty sermon? bad behavior?

    elaborate please

  • horrible sermon!

  • Amen :) I read Habakkuk 3:17-18 a couple of weeks ago and I loved that verse. Also I love

Job 13:15 Though he slay me, I will hope in him. It's being satisfied where he places us. Because we are too be satisfied in him..not what he gives or takes away. He is to be our treasure!

  • AMEN!! Philippians 3:7-9 also shows us an example that our satisfaction musn't dependent on the material blessings. Satisfaction is found ONLY in God through Jesus Christ.

  • LOL!

  • what's wrong with you? Are you a kid or something? You definitely are spiritually!

  • God bless you. I pray that the peace of God rule in your heart and in your mind. I pray that your family is blessed beyong measure as a result of your ministry! I love you and God bless you rcarrillo7~
