@Skampo1119 haha funny you say that cuz i do have a v6 genesis with the 18" wheels. In these 2 years, i only had 2 minor maintenances. Totaling 200. That is pretty cheap, considering within 2 years my uncle's 7 series had problems with the electrical system, resulting in him having to spend 5k in trying to fix it. SO he spent 25 times the cost, for a car thats 3-4 times more expensive.

@Skampo1119 Ah i see, well the once in 3 months servicing hasn't happened to me yet, and the 18" tires are actual not that bad. For good tires i can get all 4 changed for about 500-600 including balancing and rotating for the life of the tires. I primarily use Kumho, mostly cuz of the price, the Ecsta's are awesome, better then the 230 a piece bridgestones, in my opinion.

It is crazy how much I like that car. It just seems....right. Mid $30,000s. A powerful V6 and 6speed auto. Some nice interior design. A nice leather interior. And its chockful of electronic gadgets. I really do like that car.

seeing that hyundai has already come close to toyota and honda in quality and that it only took 20 years for them to do it, I don't see why the quality of hyundai cars would not surpass toyota and honda within the next decade.

However, when the competition is fought in luxury division, it just cannot match the quality of German cars (not so positive about Lexus and Acura) in terms of finish and feel. Maybe Hyundai can do a better job if they had a higher price tag.

Read an article where Hyundai said that this car is just the beginning of their commitment to make their entire line of future cars to a higher degree of quality. JD powers rated Hyundai higher than Toyota in almost every catagory this year. It's a shame you had a bad experience. Even the best cars will occasionally have a lemon. In five years in the auto after-market I actually had someone tell me they'd never buy another Honda Civic because it was so unrealiable. It didn't kill my faith in Hondas. I've had almost 15years of Hyundai ownership and have been quite pleased.
I will applaud Hyundai on their attempt, but that's all. In 2006 I researched the then new Sonata; bought one and drove it for 2 years until the overwhelming problems with suspension, tranny, brakes and a cracked dashboard had me running to my nearest Honda dealer. People, you get what you pay for. Hyundai still uses cheap materials when compared to the likes of Honda (Acura) and Toyota (Lexus). In short, I will never but another Hyundai again, and I don't really care how much they improve.
Hyundai quality is upthere already and ready to give run for their money with any top car maker in the world. They just need to sort out their image problem just as Japanese car had to back in the 70~80's. It'll take time but if they keep churning out quality cars appealing to various level of consumers, it'll be done. And we'll be seeing Chinese and Indian car in economic car market soon in America.
Wont happen soon. Hyundai didnt start designing their own cars until 88. Company started in 68 came to america in 75. They have a little longer maybe a decade and that "cheap" title will be completely gone
actually their first designed car was in 74. And yes, it'll take time but they are doing all the right things and improving fast. Look at how long it took Toyota or Nissan and what kind of humble beginnings BMW, Benz and Audi had. What makes them so different?

Not at all! I've driven both the V6 and the V8 Genesis, and the interior is quiet, soft, and cosseting. The materials are certainly on par with Lexus and Mercedes, and the leather is butter-soft. VERY comfortable!
The LEXUS has an original design, whereas the Hyundai imitates many cars.
When you walk into a Lexus showroom, you are presented with a hgh quality expereicne and are surrounded by top quality motors such as the SC and LS.
When you walk into to buy a Genesis, you are presented with standard service and motors such as the ACCENT, ELANTRA those few thousand dollars could make that Hyundai Grin into a LEXUS SMILE

I reckon if Hyundai reli wants to play in luxury car section...do lots of research, spend lots of money hiring talented employees and most importantly set up another brand name and symbol.
Hyundai and its "fake Honda" symbol just sounds/looks cheap to me.
then they may have a chance in 20 yrs time when our neighborhood kids, who had not experienced the "cheap Hyundai era", grow old enough to buy a car

True! It was always Hyundai's goal to make a 'same quality car' for the better price.
However, when the competition is fought in luxury division, it just cannot match the quality of German cars (not so positive about Lexus and Acura) in terms of finish and feel. Maybe Hyundai can do a better job if they had a higher price tag.
Well, nobody will buy Hyundai if that happens though... no one will :P since their marketing is 'Bang for the Buck.'

genesis is like a baby version of new hyundai equus,,very luxurious car,,
of course, it is much better than lexus,bmw, mercedes, etc in my opinion..
in korea, it already came out for $95,000 above. It might come out to US by end of 2009 for around 45-55k USD. Pretty decent price for a very luxuroious car, i mean think about it, other luxury brands costs bunch to buy the car part and fixt it whereas hyundai parts are not that much and convinent. =) check out new hyundai equus..you wont regret..

u obviouosly never owned a German car.
In terms of replacement parts, reliability, and 'convenience', Hyundai IS better.
However, in terms of car, Hyundai is no where near German quality even though they have a potential to do it so.. if they are willing to spend more money towards engineering.

Read an article where Hyundai said that this car is just the beginning of their commitment to make their entire line of future cars to a higher degree of quality. JD powers rated Hyundai higher than Toyota in almost every catagory this year. Look out japan, the 2nd most industrialized country "over in dem' dar parts" is ready to take the lead.... and it will, I think.

It's a shame you had a bad experience. Even the best cars will occasionally have a lemon. In five years in the auto after-market I actually had someone tell me they'd never buy another Honda Civic because it was so unrealiable. It didn't kill my faith in Hondas. I've had almost 15years of Hyundai ownership and have been quite pleased.

I will applaud Hyundai on their attempt, but that's all. In 2006 I researched the then new Sonata; bought one and drove it for 2 years until the overwhelming problems with suspension, tranny, brakes and a cracked dashboard had me running to my nearest Honda dealer. People, you get what you pay for. Hyundai still uses cheap materials when compared to the likes of Honda (Acura) and Toyota (Lexus). In short, I will never but another Hyundai again, and I don't really care how much they improve.

Hyundai quality is upthere already and ready to give run for their money with any top car maker in the world. They just need to sort out their image problem just as Japanese car had to back in the 70~80's. It'll take time but if they keep churning out quality cars appealing to various level of consumers, it'll be done. And we'll be seeing Chinese and Indian car in economic car market soon in America.

Wont happen soon. Hyundai didnt start designing their own cars until 88. Company started in 68 came to america in 75. They have a little longer maybe a decade and that "cheap" title will be completely gone

actually their first designed car was in 74. And yes, it'll take time but they are doing all the right things and improving fast. Look at how long it took Toyota or Nissan and what kind of humble beginnings BMW, Benz and Audi had. What makes them so different?

I don't have this car myself, but I've test driven one my friend's parents just got and it's a luxury car. It's friggin' hot inside, and despite the pathetic "I'm a driver" comments by some, it's a car to drool over performance wise. Drive this baby and then comment! Hyundai did what the luxes did for like 10k+ less in price. Yeah, its a Hyundai, and now it's cool to say "I want a hyundai"

Not at all! I've driven both the V6 and the V8 Genesis, and the interior is quiet, soft, and cosseting. The materials are certainly on par with Lexus and Mercedes, and the leather is butter-soft. VERY comfortable!

No doubt, the genesis is a good car.
But not as great as the LEXUS.
The LEXUS has an original design, whereas the Hyundai imitates many cars.
When you walk into a Lexus showroom, you are presented with a hgh quality expereicne and are surrounded by top quality motors such as the SC and LS.
When you walk into to buy a Genesis, you are presented with standard service and motors such as the ACCENT, ELANTRA those few thousand dollars could make that Hyundai Grin into a LEXUS SMILE
