punisher...I didnt know you need a blk belt to have a opinion...did you have a opinion when you started training or did you keep your mouth shut until all your steriods kicked in..?
Marcelo hass taught me the most important things about being a more technical fighter. At this day and age with the advancement of techniques, it no longer is enough to have more leverage, you also have to have timing
@judoka1976 Judging by your screen name, i take it you're a Judo fan or practitioner as i am, i am not surprised you find it "boring". I loved the fight, very technical and precise back and forth battle.
@kanguesso I have a LOT of respect for Marcelo but I didn't like this fight in particular. And yes, I practice Judo and I didn't want to offend anyone with it. :)
@judoka1976 You din't offend me. You just come off as someone who's not familiar with the martial art you're commenting about when you make comments like the one you made. Plus your screen name gives it away. It looks like just another "Judo guy" who's hating on BJJ. I started out as a Judoka, i trained Judo for 9 years and now have been training BJJ for 5 years. I have an appreciation for both arts. You may not offend me but i am sure you will offend others when they see your screen name. lol
@kanguesso I've seen some Judo competitions that are BORING as hell. As I said before, this in particular doesn't click for me. And yes, I've seen a LOT of BJJ and submission grappling fights that made me piss my pants.
k1... that was the correct call for 2 points. marcelo initiated the takedown and they never seperated. therefore when galvao tried to flip him and failed. marcelo gets the takedown
Put credit where it is due. Kosen Judo = Origin of BJJ. Rickson said in his book that the japanese held back on teaching and taught only the basics because they were non-japanese and thus had to learn and evolve the art on their own. Helio did improve it, But he did not invent it. ALL of it is still from Kosen Judo.
It definitely counts and people do it in competitions all the time. Their in side control and if their behind on points they will let the guy get a week half guard so they can pass again easily and get more points. It is a big loop hole and one that needs to be addressed.
essa raspagem da meia chama-se : DESESPERO !!!, ou SUPINO ou PURA FORÇA , vc escolhe kkkkkkkkkkk tem tecnica nenhuma akela raspagem , foi na tora msm !! amarrou e fez a ponte.
Much of the techniques marcelo does are not new, its his approach to attack constantly, many just sit and wait for things, he just rapid fires moves to make you make a mistake, many are afraid to do this and get caught..its the mentality he speaks of..not be afraid to lose or win.

Haha, that sticking the foot back in the half guard and then pulling it out for 3 points for the side mount over and over is so cheap by Marcelo. I still remember the bastard that did that to me in the finals of NAGA to edge out the win.
Marcelo Garcia is the best. I'll be going to Houston this weekend to watch him compete live.
He's not doing it to get points. It's a set up to get the guy to expose his back. He's been doing that set up for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Actually not, cause Marcelo was atakcing, holding his leg, so has the advantage, if Galvao try to sit and sweep and don't succed that means that Marcelo should get the points...so It was a correct call.
Besides this, now in the finals there are 3 judges, so if the main judge make a wrong call the other 2 can desagree and they have to take the points back...so the chances of such a mistake are smaller.
@felipepcs your correct. if person 1 initiates a take down and person 2 pulls guard 2 points are rewarded to person 1 because he intiated first. same goes with sweeps.
@felipepcs In an other grappling sport Galvao would have got the points, as Marcelo attempted no toakedown off of his position. In Judo, Andre performed a sacrifice throw of sorts. This doesn't mean you give the OTHER guy the points for what Andre attempted. The reality is that BJJ "makes up" a lot of rules as it goes along, a few that don't have much rational logic behind them.
I agree with felipepcs, Marcelo initiated the takedown, Galvao defended momentarily and tried to counter, Marcelo defeated the counter and completed the takedown. Two points Marcelo was the correct call.
@k1ddyn4mite felipepcs is absolutely correct. Galvao attempted the to flip him due to Garcia holding his leg. Same concept if you grab your opponents leg while standing and then he pulls guard, you receive the takedown.
anybody decent in judo would have thrown that guy in an uchi mata for trying that single leg grab for so long

lol at 3:15. Marcelo puts his leg in half guard deliberately so he can escape it and get another 3 points.

i don't think that counts? That's a pretty big loophole if it is, since you can't mount, demount and mount again for points.

why did they give marcelo 2 points when galvao tried flipping him for a takedown... should have been advantage for marcelo.. either way marcelo won.
k1ddyn4mite 5 years ago
Actually not, cause Marcelo was atakcing, holding his leg, so has the advantage, if Galvao try to sit and sweep and don't succed that means that Marcelo should get the points...so It was a correct call.
Besides this, now in the finals there are 3 judges, so if the main judge make a wrong call the other 2 can desagree and they have to take the points back...so the chances of such a mistake are smaller.
felipepcs 5 years ago 8
ok thank you... i figured it out earlier during training... do you have the absolute match?
k1ddyn4mite 5 years ago
Actually I think Marcelo got the points because he ended up on top. If Galvao ended up on top he would have been awarded the points.

@felipepcs your correct. if person 1 initiates a take down and person 2 pulls guard 2 points are rewarded to person 1 because he intiated first. same goes with sweeps.
