You're right. I decided to drop out in my senior year because there were students performing military drills in the courtyards, in military garb. After I dropped out, I found out that quite literally "the establishment" has done it's absolute best in destroying planet earth and enslaving it's population. i disagree very much to the crowd they decided to give this speech too. This school is in Arlington for one, that is a very government oriented area so it's pretty well taken care of. Not to mention the ethnicity diversity is 61 % caucasion 27 % african american. I don't think it was a right target to present a motivational speech. Arlington is a PRETTY nice school...

Regan and Bush talked to the kids in the 80s and 90s and no one rose up in arms about it, now Obama does it and it's bad. Kids need guidance and if anyone can show them the value of education it's President Obama.

We just watched this with our 13 year old who didn't get to watch at school due to technecal problems...It was a great family moment and I thank the President for taking the time to care about our kids. Come into our home anytime.

Im a student that works hard and I thought everything he said was so true. Every student in America should watch this. Very good speech Obama. I am a mother and home schooled my son and he scored at the top in his college entrance exams (at graduate level). I must tell you that I used a very liberal approach to learning. I was my son's facilitator. He would pick subjects to learn. The system in public school is antiquated and too autocratic for kids today. Kids learn far more than they did 50 years ago. Yet we still have a terrible system in education.

My children attend Southaven Middle and High, in MS where there was so much hatred going on in the state and even these schools had enough respect to allow the students to listen and to watch the presidents' speech. It is an outrage for parents that are so misguided to feel that their child should not hear this speech! I want to say that our children white, black, hispanic, and asian are and will be THE FUTURE! This was a wonderful speech and my students had a very indepth conversation about how it inspired them. Nothing has changed in this country. Some people just could not stand the fact of a black man addressing their children. Wow!!!!

You learn about Nazi in US History and my school has a whole class you can take on it.. but there is always going to be questions and he is our leader. Truth doesnt answer everything and in this case he is telling student to take advantage of there education and to be the best you can be. So many people i have heard are turning this speech into a battle. i dont want my kids to hear it but why wouldnt you want your child encouraged to stay in school and give nothing less than thier best??

They chose the kid becasue he is the senior class president and is dedicated to his education and extra curriculars. Its not his race they gave him this oppurtunity, its whats in him academically, which Obama speaks to students about, that enabled him to do this.
Our principle said that we can't watch the speech today,...and that students will be given wavers that need to be signed from parents if they can watch the speech.

I am no fan of Obama. In fact, I don't really like him much, but this was a wonderful thing that he did. The point of this speech is in your own words: 40% were paying attention. That's actually pretty good, consideriing the attention span of a child. There will be more opportunities for them to hear the speech later. I hope Obama fails in his plans to socialize our country, but I am grateful to him for delivering this speech.

GW Bush is the worst president in US history. Reigned over the huge job losses, created incredible waste, rolled back rights at an alarming rate, committed terrorism, broke the Geneva act, tortured, murdered, and the 911 attacks at very minimum happened during his watch. In his entire time as president I saw only a bill or two that I would consider good policy. But GW did show the public that you can be a blithering idiot and still do something with yourself.

What's so wrong with a nation's leader helping to lead our Country's younger generation towards a better education? I'll tell you what's wrong with it. I am a mother and home schooled my son and he scored at the top in his college entrance exams (at graduate level). I must tell you that I used a very liberal approach to learning. I was my son's facilitator. He would pick subjects to learn. The system in public school is antiquated and too autocratic for kids today. Kids learn far more than they did 50 years ago. Yet we still have a terrible system in education.

My children attend Southaven Middle and High, in MS where there was so much hatred going on in the state and even these schools had enough respect to allow the students to listen and to watch the presidents' speech. You learn about Nazi in US History and my school has a whole class you can take on it.. but there is always going to be questions and he is our leader. Truth doesnt answer everything and in this case he is telling student to take advantage of there education and to be the best you can be. The speech is probably pretty bland, its the packet quizzing students, young students about what they can do to "help" the president. Do they teach about Nazi Germany in school anymore? I am no fan of Obama. In fact, I don't really like him much, but this was a wonderful thing that he did. The point of this speech is in your own words: 40% were paying attention. That's actually pretty good, consideriing the attention span of a child. There will be more opportunities for them to hear the speech later. I hope Obama fails in his plans to socialize our country, but I am grateful to him for delivering this speech.

Reigned over the huge job losses, created incredible waste, rolled back rights at an alarming rate, committed terrorism, broke the Geneva act, tortured, murdered, and the 911 attacks at very minimum happened during his watch. In his entire time as president I saw only a bill or two that I would consider good policy. But GW did show the public that you can be a blithering idiot and still do something with yourself.

I hightly dought there is any relationship at all but i would like to say - "at our school the chocolate milk cartons had 'AL-COWDA' on the cartons" =| you know they should have atleast told the teachers when this was on (most teachers said they would, but "when is it?")

What we didn't need was another war, what we didn't need was a recession to the scale of the great depression. We have those things now and he is trying to fix things, I am amazed by detractors and how truly ignorant they sound. Everyone has ideas on how we should fix things but hows this for an idea? How about letting the guy we as Americans voted into office actually do his job and see how he does? We should try to be united in our darkest days, we quickly forgot the unity we had after 911

i dont understand what hating obama or democrats has to do with any of this speech. goddamnit people, if someone says something right give them credit for it. im as hardcore a capitalist as anyone i know, i dont really like democrats' policies, and im not a very big fan of obamas. but what he said during this speech was spot on. yes, we do need to help the children in providing tools for education. but no matter what it comes down to whether the student puts in the effort. stop hating w/o reason
