yes, the alpha. And I wonder how many atheists follow him simply for that reason. How many atheists have actually drawn out his premises to see how strongly they support his premises? How many atheists are just looking for a smarter, louder voice to get behind without honestly examining all, if not most, of his reasoning? Optimistically, I'd like to say "most," but optimism over any subject seems increasingly unrealistic in recent memory
If God really is in any meaningful sense our "guardian" -- which is what you have to believe if you're a worshiper of "Lord our God" -- yet He allows so many of us to die in natural disasters, then He has proven Himself either so neglectful or so antisocial that He has *completely* forfeited His guardianship. He can't have a "Great Plan" *and* allow floods, earthquakes and tsunamis to kill everyone in the plan!
With great power comes great responsibility. True for Spiderman and true for God.
@johnclavis even with out the earthquakes and flood, its is slightly dubious for a supreme being to create these far less intelligent creatures who have to impose a cruel an painful experience (death) on other creatures for their sustenance. It seems excruciatingly petty.

The stupidity of the notion that God has a hand in directing natural disasters, accidents etc is self evident.
It's mind boggling that intelligent people have to sit around pondering this idea.
