I use an mpc and software. The thing about it is the hardware units have computers inside and are digital too,

you sp 1200 can easily be emulated in ableton live 8 using the "redux" effect to downgrade the to 12- bit and the groove/swing pool also has full groove/swing templates for sp 1200 and mpc!
