I remember hearing this album as a kid, as I grew older I realsied I should be grateful for my old man's musical tastes! RIP to Ronny Drew Luke Kelly and Kieron Burke. There must be a fine old session up there with Tommy Makem and all the other legends of Irish folk!
"Your man Luke is communist, he give pennies to the poor and everything..." Probably the best intro ever, it is just so sad that we will never see the likes of Luke again but his voice lives on in the recordings and in many hearts! Oh and just in case folks wanted to know this is from the Finnegan Wakes Album from live at the Gate Theater in 1966 a wonderful album!
Absolutely! Anokpoet ; you dont have that 1966 LP do you with Ronnie's other introductions in it, do you? I'm thinking particularly of his remarks prior to Luke singing 'the Monto' which provided some amusing insights in to the history of the area .
I'd say that it was the Clancy's and Tommy back around 1966, I can remember it being introduced by Tommy along the lines of "Ireland's history is full of happy wars and sad love songs." God be with the days!
