The show got better in alot of ways, and I'll admit Jeri was a big part of it. At first I felt they were just giving the show a boob job, as if the show had nothing else to offer. After a while I grew to love her character, IN SPITE of the high-heels and corset and Silhouettes (seriously why the hell would a borg drone need high heels?). The whole dynamic between 7 and Capt. Janeway was wonderful. I get so pissed off when looser punks like Craig focus on her hotness.

Kes was a boring character and wasn't much to look at. Seven is a charatcer who sees clothing as "irrelevant" and only wears clothing because the show is broadcasted on TV. That's just the looks as she is pretty damn hot. She was also a very interesting character and you actually cared. Replacing Kes with Seven was the best move the writers ever did.

@swordmaster34 Kes was an interesting character IMO, and second choice to be booted. Garrett Wang (Harry Kim) was actually chosen to leave the show, but then he got voted sexiest man of the year by... I believe it was People Magazine, so the show couldn't really get rid of him, and decided on Kes instead.

Harry Kim - a character that could've gotten much more interesting if the writers did something with it.

@AngryOfMayfair It was good on an episode by episode basis, but it lacked consistency, Kate Mulgrew actually expressing her irritation at her character changing with the writers, let alone Star Trek canon inconsistencies. But yes, it had some really good episodes. "Blink of an Eye" comes to mind.

I agree also. The tactic of using sex to sell may not be palatable to many of us, and it may not even be right. However, Jeri did an incredible job with that character beyond her physical attributes. If she didn't I'm not sure that her looks alone would have saved the show. Nevertheless, I watched for Janeway before and after Jeri's arrival!

I learned something from that... I didn't know that she had to wear a corset... I wouldn't be too fond of that either. I haven't seen Boston Public yet, I may have to now. Jeri Ryan seems to be a really wonderful person, I just hope that her feelings toward Star Trek aren't all negative--especially towards Kate Mulgrew.

She DID save ST-V. The "Kes" era ratings were REALLY sagging, and they REALLY went up when JR came on board. She's the main reason why ST-V lasted seven seasons (and why it wasn't cancelled after three).

To be fair, I prefered star trek voyager when seven was introduced. dont get me wrong, some of the earlier ones were good. but the relationship between Janeway and seven played a big part in the series. Oh and Janeway was the best Star trek Captain, ever!
