Panda is a shy animal by nature. They rather not to be seen by men. These animals' been in Sichuan longer than human being has. They were view by the ancient Ba people to be a mystical and rare animal that brings peace and serenity.
I guess it may have something to do with pandas being endangered with very many diseases. Many pandas die just after they're born and people are afraid that those who made it may get ill so as long as they're very young = very prone, they're stay behind the glass. That's also the reason why people taking care of them wear those lab coats - they don't want to bring any bacterias inside.

As if bacteria causing flu or other minor [if this can be treated this way] diseases were only there and not in Washington zoo with all the visitors bringing it in every day on their hands. And to be precise, concrete does prevent diseases more than some other surfaces, as it hasn't in it's structure much the bacteria can live on.
It's more sterile.
I just think the keepers are smarter than us and wouldn't do any unnecessary harm to pandas.

Oh please, I live in Washington and visited little Tai Shan about the same time this video was taken. This area is protected by a VERY thick double pane window. The little panda can't hear them. I saw him in his outdoor enclosure and he was hystercially funny. Very sneaky, loved to bother his mamma. He is a constant source of joy here, and we are grateful to China for the honor of having him, if only for a couple of years.

I wish they would put up signs and stuff telling people to be quiet, especially around the more sensative animals. I went to the zoo a few weeks ago and got to an animal before the crowd...the second the crowd came and started making a racket though the animal went back into hiding. *sigh* I love zoos but I wish they had stricter noise policies around the animals.
Sometimes zoo's keep animals who can;t survive in the wild I know and that's a good thing.. but it still hurts my feelings to see how everybody is screaming an watching those animals day in day out while these aimals should be in the wild.
i get what u say about making it a show or something but i spose zoos do this in hopes that maybe ppl will actually give a damn about some other animal then them selves for once, and also yes i believe they should be kept free in the wild but i think there are times when humans must step in to assure the existence and safety of the animals, but of course this is mostly cause man has created a unsafe environment for them and has treaded on to their homes.
But u do get those ignorant ppl like the lady saying "he needs a bath and oh what a fun job and but why do we have to leave now" who i think should be slaped around a bit... or alot.
Sesame .. pandas are brave, kind, sweet, gentle, innocent, simple, delightful and playful. and rare. So people get a bit excited when seeing them, makes perfect sense.

You can tell Tai hadn't QUITE got the hang of walking when this video was shot. Now, he not only walks and climbs all over the trees in his enclosure, but can also run quite fast as well.I can hardly wait to see how big he gets...before he's deported to China, of course.
I'm laughing! It sounds just like when I saw him on December 11th. It was amazing--everyone was so hysterical over him, like he was a fluffy little rock star! Especially the women! Thank you for sharing this and bringing back a sweet memory. :-)

Fucking sick, wats cute about a panda being exploited for the purposes of human entertainment... this video is sick, the enclosure is to small and its only shy cuz its depressed about its shitty baron environment... needs a much bigger enclosure and other pandas to interact with! sick... like fuck

You can tell Tai hadn't QUITE got the hang of walking when this video was shot. Now, he not only walks and climbs all over the trees in his enclosure, but can also run quite fast as well.I can hardly wait to see how big he gets...before he's deported to China, of course.

I'm laughing! It sounds just like when I saw him on December 11th. It was amazing--everyone was so hysterical over him, like he was a fluffy little rock star! Especially the women! Thank you for sharing this and bringing back a sweet memory. :-)
