I was laid off 2 years ago from a PhD-level position with a company that went to China thanks to Obama's exorbitant tax-regulations on US job creators.
I just sold my only vehicle because I'm $6,786 in credit card debt buying food alone, I can't get welfare because my credit score is too high and I'm a "white male," never mind I have custody of my 3 kids!

It should be understood that those on *Disability* are not always people who never contributed to the "system" when they were able to work. Many who draw Disability later in life are merely getting back the money they already PAID during the years they did work. Lets say you worked for 30 years and paid taxes all those years but are now getting Disability, you are simply drawing money you already paid into the system the prior years you worked and contributed to.
Unfortunately it takes things like this to cause real change in the system. Although it should have been this way from the start, it's people like these scumbags that can be blamed for making things harder for those who genuinely need these services.
I saw an article earlier in 2011 where Congress was going to "re-think" welfare and other related programs due to higher-than-ever amounts of fraud. They also mentioned all the videos these ignorant people have made on YouTube boasting about it.

@Mrbrianjohnson951 I agree with you there. However we have to look at the fact that when you get off welfare, you lose other benefits including subsidized housing, food, clothing, and healthcare. It is only beneficial for single mothers to get off welfare when they can get a job that supplies all those things, directly or indirectly. If those jobs were readily available, you'd see a lot more people getting off welfare. In this economy, even a college degree doesn't promise a job like that!
You are right about one thing, job are hard to find in this economy. Even the college degree won't help you find a job. The problem with welfare is that it took your tax dollar away to you and gave it to the people who is on welfare. As of right now, there are two types of people who is on welfare. One group who want to work but couldn't because they are too disabled to work or they are too lazy to get a job and out of the two, I feel sorry for the disabled.

I went to college, worked 40-60 hours per week, and I got so sick at 25 (before saving for my future), that I had to stop working. I am laying down in bed while I write this, and I have been here for 7 years. Take it from me, YOU NEVER KNOW when something catastrophic could happen. That is why it is important we ALL "pay it forward" and help each other out.
I don't know what type of disability that caused you to be on welfare in the first place but in your case, I can understand that you don't have the choice but be on welfare. There are two reasons why they are on welfare, either they are too disabled to work or they choose to be on welfare because they are too lazy to get a job.

I know there are individual stories, like this video, and they make for great headlines, but I always hear people talking about this subject as if there are thousands of people abusing the system. I have yet to see measurable statistics of this. Most welfare fraud is from doctors and companies, not from individual people.

@heidelicious I'm sorry, but as far as crime rate goes, you are wrong. It would actually make some sense that white people do more crime than black people, since according to the 2008 Census, whites made up almost 80% of the population of the U.S., while African-Americans made up around 13%.
However, the percentage of crime that is done by African-Americans is around 55%.
That means the ratio of population vs crime is much higher for African-Americans.

It is a FACT that PROPORTIONATELY, black people do significantly more time in prison than white people, for the same crime. This racial inequality is a contributing factor for poverty (single mothers on welfare) and further crime in black communities. So yes you're right about that. However, white people are less likely to get included in the statistics for crime, when they are often not held accountable in 1st place!

As a welfare recipient, I'm highly annoyed at people "throwing the baby out with the bathwater." I agree we need to do proper checks to make sure people can't defraud the system, but that does not mean that ALL people on welfare are freeloading. I have a severe chronic illness where I cannot stand more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I would LOVE to go back to work, but I don't have the privilege. I paid a lot of taxes when I did work, and it bothers me to be put down because I needed help.

Hey I'm rattin out my babies mother for welfare fraud. She owned the house we were living in and she was renting out rooms for almost 2 years. She pocketed over $20,000 in cash. It was a 4 bedroom house and she rented out 3 rooms. She was getting paid in cash and check. There are also roommates willing to testify against her. We broke up and she filed a restraining order on me and is trying to leave the state with my kid and open up another welfare case. I didnot have my name on anything.

I've been eligible for disability for ten years, but want my kids to have better. Now I'm in constant pain and at times have trouble walking, I will need gov. help some day and wonder if it will still be available. These people many be stealing tax dollars but think about who they really hurt.
If a woman gets on welfare make it so that if she has a child while on welfare she loses her welfare. Now they are giving woman more money for each child and that leads to women having kids just so they can get more money. This is ridiculous! I received welfare when I NEEDED it and got off immediately when I did not. I work. My husband works. We have two children and I do not plan on another for a while. I do not need assistance and if I did I sure as hell wouldn't qualify. Welfare is not a BAD program. It is only bad because of these types of people misusing it. Fingerprinting is a good way to start. I have to do that at some banks to cash a paycheck. It's not really an extra cost to do that much at least.

It should be understood that those on *Disability* are not always people who never contributed to the "system" when they were able to work. Many who draw Disability later in life are merely getting back the money they already PAID during the years they did work. Lets say you worked for 30 years and paid taxes all those years but are now getting Disability, you are simply drawing money you already paid into the system the prior years you worked and contributed to.
Welfare IS different though.

I saw an article earlier in 2011 where Congress was going to "re-think" welfare and other related programs due to higher-than-ever amounts of fraud. They also mentioned all the videos these ignorant people have made on YouTube boasting about it.

It is only beneficial for single mothers to get off welfare when they can get a job that supplies all those things, directly or indirectly. If those jobs were readily available, you'd see a lot more people getting off welfare. In this economy, even a college degree doesn't promise a job like that!

I went to college, worked 40-60 hours per week, and I got so sick at 25 (before saving for my future), that I had to stop working. @heidelicious I'm sorry, but as far as crime rate goes, you are wrong. It would actually make some sense that white people do more crime than black people, since according to the 2008 Census, whites made up almost 80% of the population of the U.S., while African-Americans made up around 13%.
However, the percentage of crime that is done by African-Americans is around 55%.
That means the ratio of population vs crime is much higher for African-Americans.
Maybe you should educate yourself...

It is a FACT that PROPORTIONATELY, black people do significantly more time in prison than white people, for the same crime. This racial inequality is a contributing factor for poverty (single mothers on welfare) and further crime in black communities. So yes you're right about that. However, white people are less likely to get included in the statistics for crime, when they are often not held accountable in 1st place!

As a welfare recipient, I'm highly annoyed at people "throwing the baby out with the bathwater." I agree we need to do proper checks to make sure people can't defraud the system, but that does not mean that ALL people on welfare are freeloading. I have a severe chronic illness where I cannot stand more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I would LOVE to go back to work, but I don't have the privilege. I paid a lot of taxes when I did work, and it bothers me to be put down because I needed help.

I've been eligible for disability for ten years, but want my kids to have better. Now I'm in constant pain and at times have trouble walking, I will need gov. help some day and wonder if it will still be available. These people many be stealing tax dollars but think about who they really hurt.

Here is an easy fix to the welfare problem.
If a woman gets on welfare make it so that if she has a child while on welfare she loses her welfare. Now they are giving woman more money for each child and that leads to women having kids just so they can get more money. It should work the opposite way to discourage that and break the family welfare cycle.

if you get rid of welfare completely your gunna screw over a lot of children... it actually is given to some who deserve it, and some actually use it right... but YES most of the people abuse it and deserve to get their asses pounded in prison... here in hawaii, i think we have some of the highest amounts of people on welfare, driving escalades, wearing gold bracelets, and not using it on their kids... its bullshit, but it does help some single moms and dads... big time reform needed...

This is ridiculous! I received welfare when I NEEDED it and got off immediately when I did not. I work. My husband works. We have two children and I do not plan on another for a while. I do not need assistance and if I did I sure as hell wouldn't qualify. Welfare is not a BAD program. It is only bad because of these types of people misusing it. Fingerprinting is a good way to start. I have to do that at some banks to cash a paycheck. It's not really an extra cost to do that much at least.

The guy I know had a great plan has 16 kids makes more than a working man in food stamps alone LOL 4 30 years to boot. Oh and hes never worked a day that doesn't include the Cash assistance Squatting its been a free life. Looks like having many jobs and trades just forces you to pay 4 them. @84AMK Agreed. Welfare fraud is a crime but not every one who needs help and gets it is a bad person. Think of all the parents who lost jobs and are struggling to find new ones. I had to get help paying my heat when I was out of work for six months, and no, I was not too picky, I am currently working a min wage job, and I will never judge some one who really needs the help.

where ever there is something free there will always be masses running the system to get it, sad fact of life, the reforms we need in America are real, reform the welfare/ social security systems to include drug testing and follow-up on all monies spent, and take away the race card, it's way past over, the only ones who play it are those who want to benefit from ancient history. Sad but True, how many real needy folks left behind because of ignorance, or the funds got ate up by these folks?

Yes, welfare is one of those programs that needs to be ELIMINATED, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER GOVERNMENT SCAMS. I would start with all of the WOMEN who get pregnant on purpose to get on the government dole (and/ or to trap the man). That's right, you get pregnant it is on your own dime----no wic, welfare, food stamps, well baby care, medicaid or ANY OF THOSE GOVERNMENT GOODIES. And if you cannot take care of your kids, you lose custody. With my plan, watch the illegitimate births go very very low.

@tickyul I currently get welfare, foodstamps, and med-cal. I am in a super bad situation its the only way 2 survive with my 2 kids. Their dad is not around. I been sick.. I decited to apply 4 all of this because i SEE that people who dont really need it get it anyways. My brothwer in law is getting all of this and dont need it. He gets more then 2000dls per week. They have 3 cars in their familly. own a 3 bed house and say they rent a 1 bed house. Make it harter 2 apply
