  • I think I just broke myself jumping up and down watching this...

I love this kind of music and even more so love Star Trek, where can I see more of this ??? *giggle* I would even come in uniform (even if I do hate the original's short skirts for the women..eek) to cheer you on.

  • Watched it four times this morning....Outstanding!

  • @LissaLovesMusic Thank you for the comment! We appreciate it!

  • @LissaLovesMusic Thank you very much for the nice comment!

  • I love original Barbershop music. It is pure genius. It requires such a firm understanding of chord structure and vocal arrangements that it defies comprehension to all but a few composers. Good work.

  • ... but don’t bring Sulu

    haha Brilliant!

  • Geekery for the WIN!

  • This is absolutely genius. What a joy to watch and listen!! I noticed this is from 2007--are you all still singing/parody-ing? =)

  • @Yodycoyote Yes we are still signing. Besides Star Trek we also do shows as Elvis, the Addam's Family and of course, just ourselves

  • i was wondering if i could get the sheet music to teach my students

  • "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor not a baritone!"

    LOL. Best part. XD

  • Where could i buy the music, or if i couldn't, would it be alright if i used it for a college quartet that i'm starting with some friends next school year?

  • @TheMasterCommander01 You cant buy the music for it, but if you want to "lift" it from this video, knock yourself out!

  • hey mrfredstr..

    great song lovin it.

Where could i buy the music for this??

  • @lloydino We dont sell the music, but if you want to "lift" it from the video, go for it.

  • @mfredstr its on itunes

  • @mfredstr

Hey, I was wondering if you have sheet music or something for this. I'm doing a choir project and we were planning to do this song, but it's taking a bit long to figure each part out individually. :)

  • @kittybinz I could fax it to you if its for educational purposes

  • @lloydino its on itunes

  • @lloydino its on itunes

  • @lloydino

actually, this set is on itunes, in the album 2007 International Barbershop Quartet Contest. :D

  • wow lol they used the song Medley Eyes and out star trek funny words but still funny. Did they say jackoff instead at 2:23? lol

  • @iundonei Ummm....no. The lyric is "Don't bring Sulu, Chekov instead" As in Ensign Pavel Chekov.

  • oh well idk about much star trek stuff but by the movement i could guess they said check off instead

  • this is still my favorite part.

  • would you mind if i used this song in a talent show for my school

  • Not at all. Have fun with it!

  • @mfredstr thank you do you know where i can get the lyrics to it.

  • @sporemandude You have to transcribe them off the video I'm afraid

  • Hah, watched them out of order, so i didn't get the "potty" joke. Now it makes sense! Great song, great quartet! We need more geeks! I wish there were more geek girls in my SA chorus... :(

  • Really cool. Great singers performers. Stunning rhythm.

    Made me laugh.

  • Damnit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a baritone! haha.

    they're very good :)

  • One word: Maserpiece!!

  • Who wrote these songs? The Trekkie who wrote these should be named, and honored into the 24th century.

  • Roger Payne, Chuck Hunter, Martin Fredstrom, Craig Ewing

  • Great lyrics, great shtick, and phenomenal singing.

I have never heard a *glissando* ring before! That is just astounding.

  • "Captain... I still fail to see the hu-" Great part... Absolutely love these little twists to such songs.

  • THAT ROCKS

  • Just amazing.. lol

  • Dang, Scotty goes HIGH. Awesome job to those men.

  • Most awesome thing I have ever seen. Ever.

  • Making fun of Star Trek is racist.

    There, I said it.

    :)

  • Why are they beign so hard on Sulu? Did sometihng really happen with Desilu and Sulu or did they make that up?

  • shut up Wesley! lol sry, thats my favorite line from any star trek

  • it's ok, lol. I can see how that fits.

  • @greatsayain They're riffing on an old standard called "Don't Bring Lulu".

  • You guys are great in all respects. Musically you have an incredible blend, technically you are very tight (and I grew up listening to the Schmitt Brothers rehearsing in my living room so I do have a refined ear) then enhance it with comedy, please link me to where I can buy your CD's.

  • Is there a site for the competition each year? I'd love to go but don't know where to look for info on Competitions or conventions. Huge barbershop fan!

  • Go to barbershop dott org and you'll find when and where the next convention is.

There are two International conventions each year: the Mid-Winter in January (usually held in a Southern city for reasons which should be obvious), which hosts the Senior Quartet and the new Youth Chorus contests.

The big Convention is in early July each year, and is held in a big city. It hosts the main Quartet and Chorus, and Collegiate Quartet, contests, plus several great shows.

  • Hey does anyone know if they are allowed to say dammit in competition. I thought that regulations didnt allow swearing.

  • The phrase was completely in context with the original show. Bones frequently said "Dammit Jim, I'm a Dr. not a ....whatever" hence no problem.

  • ok thats makes sense. you guys are great btw. I saw u in the prelims in Las Vegas.

  • @mfredstr "Damnit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a Physicist"

  • well since dammit isnt a swear word, they are fine...

  • Congratulation. A whole other level of nerdom.

  • HAHAHAHAHA! Oh man! my first time and i'm addicted!

  • this is funny, but evn better is chordiac arrest, and their double video

  • Absolutely fantastic!! This combines two things I love! Barbership Quartets and Star Trek!! These guys are brilliant! 5 stars! Excellent!! "Live long and prosper Hi-Fidelity"!

  • The food on the Enterprise must be exquisite!!

  • Amazing singers.

  • well done!!

  • Spectacular Harmony!

  • I love this! It is both musically good, and and incredibly amusing. Very clever. Five stars.

  • It´s good music, very funny, good aswell for trekkies and acappella fans !!!

  • wOw. lol My Dad is a major Trecky and he also happens to love old school barber shop quartets. this is hilarious and very well done. Their music is unique and brilliant. lol

  • Well i'll be! That was some of the best stuff I ever heard! Good singing, awesome theme, and of course, comedy!

  • Brilliant! I just stumbled across this today and had to comment on how clever it is, particularly "Don't Bring Sulu". Did your quartet write the alternate lyrics? If you have more material like that, you need to burn some DVDs. I'd buy it faster than you can say "Blow dat!" -- Peter B. Steiger / bass, Cheyenne Wyomingaires chorus

  • "Dammit Jim, I'm a Doctor not a Baritone!"

Ha, that makes the act. (:

  • this is cool!

  • This is awesome.

  • great performance - star trek is always a favorite.

I've played the other video several times and just realized this one is different (both have the same title). you should add part 1 & 2 to titles.

This should be first. I didn't get the potty reference in the other video until I played this one.

Keep up the good work and please, please give us more on youtube.

  • omg that was amazing!!!

  • that dude wearing blue in the middle looks like Dermot Morgan ( Father Ted)

  • Chekov....as in Ensign Pavel Chekov

  • Ok thank you! I was sure it wasn't that haha but I wanted to make sure.

    You guys sound wicked good!

  • At 2:24, do they say "jack off instead?" Haha

  • That's what I thought first too, but they are saying check off instead. Haha

  • This particular song is part two of the set. Part one is the 04:29 long one over in Related Videos. It's best to watch it first.

  • Actually this is the first song in their skit

  • Now that I think about it, you're probably right. My bad.

  • No they say Chekov instead .

  • Great job. Amazing overtone at the end! I can't wait for your new album.

  • Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! A funny and sincere homage. Wonderful!

  • Who did this?

  • A quartet called Hi-Fidelity, I am the bass (Spock). We were the National Harmony Sweepstakes winner a couple of years ago.

  • Congratulations on winning. I trust your are still competing?

  • Yes, we are very active, performing and competing wherever we can. Mostly, we just just love entertaing the fans!

  • Trekno, thanks for posting about this on Excal. Brillian!

  • This is, I believe, the same Quartet that makes "Last Call with Carson Daly" occasionally watchable ("The NBC Monologue Joke Explainers Barbershop Quartet").

They also do an awesome Addams Family skit (hint, hint, mfredstr)!

This songs are part of a much longer and funnier set that they do for shows.
