  • i can only imagine what that sheet music looks like

  • Swiss triplets on tenors nom nom nom

  • those asking if he knows what a rim is, his dad used to beat him with rims so now he never goes near them

  • Let's clear some things up. 1st, this was not written as a solo, it was written as a pure chop ram/ exercise that was played by the '93 QB. 2nd, It was actually written by 5 people, Mike Stevens, Bob Jones, Richard Galloway, Mark Muktoyuk, and myself. So, if you like it give Mike the credit, but if you think it's crap he only gets 1/5 of the blame :) As a side note, playing consistent block levels like this is harder than you think, if you can control it like this adding dynamics is easy!

  • @TheJeremygill stickied

  • @TheJeremygill Are there any videos of this being played by the line?

  • @MattKravetz Not that I know of.

  • He probably read the music and came to the rim parts going "rim? OH. so hit that thing around the drum head. Fuck, this is gonna be a hard piece."

  • He dose his cross overs good but not a very good solo try to do better next time man

  • mike stevens is my caption head this summer!! wooo pumped!!

  • Something fun to do: randomly go forward and backward in the clip. It all sounds exactly the same. At least Tim has timbre and dynamics.

  • @CCButtra thats called "consistent sound quality"

  • @pyromaniac204060 Funny, I call it "boring." To each his own, though, and I am not saying I could do this or even come close. But I do have tastes and I prefer Tim's sound and dynamic contrast.

  • @CCButtra I respect you for not being a internet troll. You are completely entitled to your own opinion.

  • @pyromaniac204060 Trolls should copy that conversation to see how people can disagree maturely on the interwebs.

Also, I will point a flaw in my argument: this piece wasn't written by Bachman. Therefore, I cannot blame him for the lack of dynamic contrast; he was just playing the music as written.

  • It's so nerve racking watching him the whole time waiting to hear a rim...then at the end its just a huge sigh of relief...haha

  • ...and like a real man he is using mallets, not sticks.

  • @Inspadave boo this comment haha

  • @DieNaSty4me Boo my comment why? I do not see why people today prefer sticks over mallets. To me mallets produce a fuller sound. Sticks are wimpy.

  • @Inspadave they do produce a warmer tone but thats about it. you can get so many more sounds out of a stick. i mean yes you can be creative and probabily come up with some with a mellet but i guess im just aadjusting with whats going today. i used to use mallets but i prefer sticks. i got tired of the same sound.

  • @Inspadave I think the reason people are starting to prefer sticks is because of practice pads. You can't really use your mallets on a pad, but sticks work just fine. Having said that, I use both depending on the sound I"m looking for you. I know I'm out of control :P

  • @littlesnareboy I understand your point about mallets on pads, which is why I made sets of practice pads for the line I teach using discarded hoops, and actual drum heads. Not only do they get the feel of real heads they also have to work on not hitting rims. In performance they switch between several implements. I like sticks when playing latin music so I can get a timbale-like sound.

  • he hit the rims on purpose at 1:48 just so the rest of the world wouldnt feel so much like shit.

  • if bill bachman told me to kidnap the president i would say how many

  • this is sick.

    i love it.

  • i hear an old song called square business in here? am i crazy

  • his beating spots are perfect, zomg

  • Bill Bachman- He hits rims because he wants to....

  • Can someone please tell me where to get sheet music for this?

  • Unless this is a different Mike Stevens hes my marching band instructor.....W0W

  • @RingMasterPB do you go to tigard high school?

  • It's like his arms and mallets become intangible and they just pass through each other to do those mind blowing crossovers!

  • He has the weirdest posture..but I love his drumming <33

  • what happened to "don't look down or we'll break your ass boy?" O_O

    Still great :D

  • Bil Bachman is like the Chuck Norris of drums... O_O

  • there were only intentional rims in that. wow.

  • i was waiting to see if his quints exploded! LOLOL hes soo good

  • After watching this video, where BB uses mallets, go watch one where he uses sticks. The difference in sound is like night and day.

  • ohhhhh man the only rim in this is when he purposely hit it :x

  • does he even know what a rim is??

    haha

  • only when he wants to lol

  • haha lol

  • @billybear12345 yeah his father beat him with one often as a child so he would never go near one again lol

  • @RKFTBxMJ haha that reply just made my day!!!

  • @billybear12345 yeah but only around the first 100 or so takes

  • @billybear12345 only when he wants to

  • I dont think these are Remo Crimplock Pins are they Evans??? Help me out Im only keen on the Remo Series. I go White Ambassador but these sound sweet!!!

  • they might be evans....i think i see the evans symbol at the top of the 2nd drum head and the 1st.....but idk...

  • those are pinstripes. best tenor heads in the world

  • bill uses remo crimplock pinstripes, they sound really great due the way their tuned

  • my favorite thing about Bills playing is how clean his crosses are. he never clicks the rim do to missing the drum.

  • my friend won that set of quads

it was sick when i saw bill there and my friend accepting it...

i wish it woulda been me tho..lol.

  • where can i get music for crazy solos like this b.c im good and i think i could learn them i just dont know where to get them

  • It may look like he is looking down, but in reality he is staring in to the 9th dimension because that's where the sheet music comes from.

  • best explanation of what hes looking at!!!

  • Pretty cool.

  • Goodness, I love his style of play.

    -John

  • Yeah we still won. Hahaha.

  • he judged at a competetion my HS drumline was at and nominated us for cymbal line caption. we don't have a cymbal line....

  • haha.

  • did you win? XD jk

  • we actually did. so it wasnt too bad

  • that is epic

  • nice...

  • Bill Bachman is the freaking Quad God, don't get me wrong, he's great.

I don't much care for this particular solo, I could just do with a tiny bit more structure, but that's just me.

    Great playing nonetheless, five stars.

  • How Much Structure Do Yo Possibly Need?

  • hahaha agreed.

  • i like his shirt.

  • These are quints, not quads.

  • correction, yes they are TECHNICALLY quints, but they are also called quads even a full set of tenor drums are called quads in some places, i say Tenors for anything that has a spoc drum.. so you see tomata tomato!

i do however admire the fact that you tried starting an argument without knowing how you would finish it. great thought process! douche!

  • dont know why you're so mad.

    i thought the same thing.

and you dont know how he'd finish that.

    i mean, what the hell?

  • dr. spock.

  • (the quad god) :P

  • Sheet Music? Just Buy his book "Quad Logic" it has a bunch if his exersizes in it, it is a really cool book.

  • Is this in it? i cant find it

  • "Q" isn't in Quad Logic

  • "Q" isn't in Quad Logic. I have the book

  • Ok that's what I thought lol. I went through my copy like 400 times looking for it : )

  • yeah dude, no worries. it's a fucking sweet solo, and i did the same, thinking that each new time i checked, i'd find it. The only misleading thing about the video "Reefed Beats" is that is sais pretty much everything (but it doesn't say not quite everything) that is in the video, is from out of Bill Bachman's Books, and Quad Logic being the only Quad Book he wrote, is assumed to have "Q" in it (as well as Opie's Changes). But it doesn't, it only has Geek, Opie's Opus, Beatlicious, and Guidance

  • So is there any way to get "Q"? And would you recommend Reefed Beats?

  • I have no idea dude... I'm still checking if anybody, or any website has it though. I wouldn't necessesarily recomend getting reffed beats, mainly because it's not any more of a help than the book quad logic. If you're looking to see some amazing quad playing (basicly every solo out of quad logic is played by bachman himself in that dvd) and have some entertainment, get it, but if you're getting it because you want to improve as a drummer, you don't really need it. (quadlogic has you covered)

  • Thanks a bunch man : )

  • Anyone have the sheet music?

  • I used to say Tim Jackson is better but....Bill Bachman is better. But I will say that Tim Jackson and Bill Bachman are the best ever.

  • I would probably throw in Nick Werth as well. I believe he's one the most talented and underrated players of his skill and caliber, and easily falls in with Tim Jackson and Bill Bachman

  • asome

  • even owns on a wobbly stand! =D

  • bill bachman wrote the books tim jackson learned from lol.

  • @Supernova325 you mean rim jackson?

  • That guy's good...

  • Bill wins life.

  • hola solo quiero decir que bill bachman es el numero uno y espero tocar algun día como el apenas comienzo a estudiar tenor.

    saludos desde México!!

  • duuuuuddddeee.

    adjust your flippin stand yo.

those drums are wobblin' like crazy! I got dynastys and they don't wobble at all.

    best ever!

  • LOL. The person that uploaded this to youtube is not the person you see playing. The one you see playing is legendary Bill Bachman. And if bachman wants to play with a wobbly stand, he can.

  • I know who that is.

    He is freakin amazinnnnggg.

I was simply saying his stand was wobbly & dynastys are bitchinnn.

He can play on whatever he wants, either way he is the best.

  • has your stand ever had to withstand the almighty power of bachman?

  • better then me

  • He makes 57 seconds seem so long with so much notes

  • that is why he is thae Mastert of the Quads

  • Master Bill teach us your ways of the Quads

  • He did, its all in book called "Quad Logic"

  • oh cool how u know that

  • i have the book of Bachman. It's full of useful etudes and info.

  • Damn I wan to learn that

  • Don't we all?

  • Yeah I know you can show off

  • He marched tenors with the cadets, and led them to win 1st. He can PLAY!

  • hahahahah you're joking right??? I seriously hope you're joking. That's one of the most ignorant things you can ask. Bachman played tenors for the University of North Texas (indoor drumline) and also played for the Cadets (Division 1 Drum Corp). Nuff said. Period

  • I love how my comment has a negative 1. There really are some dumbass people on youtube. If you actually saw ANY of bill bachman's drumset videos, and the complexity of his playing, maybe you'd shut the fuck up. p.s. If you really want to get technical, he's played with neal morse multiple times, (and if you don't know who that is, look it up. You'll be amazed. that is if you know anything about music) so if playing with a BAND is really all you care about, then yes, he can do that also.

  • hahaha. I will raise yours back up to 0 from -1 because you are right.

  • thats how real tenors sound :D bill is a badass and really nice in person

  • he's really funny too lol

  • nice shirt.

  • Dude it's looks like they speeded up the video (I know they didn't),but he's fast.......

  • ha quad god. so true.
