  • I'm going to assume he didn't know he was taking the piss out of her work while she was standing behind him?

  • It always annoys me when you see these people at galleries who are more interested in standing chatting than actually looking at the art.

  • thank you for filming and posting this exhibit video, however one could do without your opinion on the subject.

  • @NEVERTURNAWAY Mute?

  • Thanks for doing this. It proves to me that Tracy Emin is merely an agenda lead and ultimately soul-less entity who follows the orders of the Media Magnates who have promised her large sums of money and a kind of immortality. It doesn't make her irrelevant... just, almost a waste of time!

  • "Picaso. There's a reference I can understand" Gold.

You gotta love the "I can't think of a new direction to take my art, so I'm going to write" approach. Though some of her line drawings are interesting, they lack the technical skill and strength of say Calder or the very master she referenced.

  • @oblonger She's been using writing since donkey's years, plus i think technical skill is reletive to the ideas expressed.

  • "Some crazy fucked up dog like hell

That's how it feels to live without love".

That's what the neon text is - by the way. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks lombmusic07. It was hard to read it while I was recording.

  • @jameskalm - you're welcome.

  • This guys an idiot, he can even say her name correctly - Tracy Em-in not Tracey E-min! God how can you go to an artists exhibition and not even no how to pronounce their name, and being Anerican is not an excuse lol!! Anyway personally I love her work!

  • @mrsohmygosh this video comes courtesy of that 'idiot', you ungrateful 'idiot'.

  • @mrsohmygosh What is it you love about Tracy Emins work?

  • @mrsohmygosh you're a real twat, insulting James Kalm like that...

  • One of the hottest artist (period).

  • the girl that was asked what she thought is obviously the artist's friend.

  • this makes me want to barf. she needs to go to a doctor to get herself straightened out. cheap subject matter to shock viewers so she can get some attention. obnoxious

  • outsider art or erotica? Both? or none of the above? Thanks for your coverage!

  • James, i got the impression you really didn't like the exhibition, did you?

  • Sometimes I just feel like the hype doesn't match up to the reality of the work (though I'm still undecided as far as Tracey's latest show goes).

  • Hi James, Thanks.

Is the title of the show a reference to David Bowie?

  • I see more Louise Bourgeois's drawings as an influence. There's a video on Youtube where Emin has insightful comments on Bourgeois's art.

  • DOWNER

  • Good....

  • I freaking loved it. The viewership has more facility with neon scribble. Those breasts aren't that large by internet standards. The repetition is perfect. I've been looking at asses for 45+ years without indications of tiring. Crotches are good too. Big, big, talent. Thanks three times James.

  • I was going through some old boxes and came across some whiskey induced drawings I scratched on napkins in bars about 15 years ago, same forms, same texts.... I guess I am a genius!

Ps. I then placed them in the garbage, with the trash.

  • WHY WHY WHY GOD? I would have bought them

  • Great expressive work. Tracey Emin is obviously using Gustav Klimt's drawings as source material. Interesting to see such similar imagery coming from a female artist. Are they autobiographical? Thanks for sharing James.

  • @jahuyser I think Egon Schiele would be a closer guess.

  • @jameskalm sorry for the late response to your comment, James. Does Egon Schiele also have a long series of drawings of women masturbating? I've seen the whole gamut of Klimt's series, but never Schiele. I also find it interesting that first comment offended someone. I was in no way attempting to discredit Ms. Emin, but rather to weave her into the history of art.

  • I don't know how many drawings Schiele did of women masturbating but I've seen his self portraits masturbating.

  • i really liked the shadowbox frames.

  • The repetitive kills the provocative...

  • One of the best replys ever. Hope your enjoying your visit.

  • Thanks. I'm already back in my cultural Brazilian backwater. You guys are lucky to be New Yorkers! James, have a look at McKee's...

  • @claureic Yes it's high on my list.

  • Guessing a lot of people aren't getting it but they're feeling it. Beautiful embroideries and animation. A glorious declaration of a heart.

  • hack

  • Vulgar bullshit, nothing more. Fuck off wacky, greedy buffoons from "artworld"!!!

  • artwork which is honest about sexuality is often vulgar to some conservative people, but this isent wacky bullshit. This work punches you in the gut.

  • well said.

  • shallow, hollow core, relevant to money and mind, narcissistic, opaque

  • Crazy Gone I proclaimed myself Artist. Absolute shit along with the rest of the british trash Art and for that matter the Art's. This Art is bullshit with nothing more predictable than the bullshit of continuance.

  • Oh and I got to say...pretty brash for you to talk about her problems when she's right there james :)

  • @chandru1103 ,

Yes, I guess my bedside manor needs improvement, maybe that's why people are less willing to talk to me these days.

  • haha nah.

  • What a great woman. Thanks James...

  • She is so sexy and good. you know why?

Cause she don't give a fuck.

    Thanks James

  • nightmare hippy chick. nice song choice

  • That was the artist herself, upstairs with the giant breasts. Thanks again JK.

  • kudos to you, james, for going to the opening on a such a nasty weather - and riding your bicycle! :))

too bad you haven't talked to her or have you?

i feel her literary bits are stronger than her drawings, they stand on their own. but that animation piece is pretty nice! thanks james!

  • She is a big star, but she's been hammering the same ideas for 15 years. Tends to become a bit repetitive and boring. Thanks James, I saw the show and am glad to watch the video.

  • Go Tracy! Repping the UK talent.

  • Why seek therapy when you can market your neuroses?

    Good statement.

  • or just go write the blog of feelings

  • thanks james!
