Who is the idiot who estimated 70 yards? I was expecting the ball to go 7 yards deep into the end zone considering it was thrown from the 37. It dropped at about the 2 yard line. Dude, thats 9 yards short.
@pg86 Mcnabb is done with the Redskins!! I would rather see Beck be the starter than Mcnabb or Rex!! Good thing we didnt draft a QB this draft I think Beck would do a better job than any of this years QBs on the draft plus eventhough he was a third string QB he already knows the playbook for Shannys offense!!
@janyaoha83 Yeah Im just saying maybe we should just give this guy a shot we have nothing to lose! Im from new mexico and BYU is in our conference the Mountain West and I saw him play in college sure it wasnt against top college teams but still this guy had an arm and was very accurate!!! I just think he would do a good job if given another shot at starter!!!
not 70 yards, he threw it from his own 36 to the opposite 1 yard line so its a 63 yard throw, maybe 61 or 62, if you want to see a real 70 yard throw look up "longest hail mary ever"
@AdamKramerNY its more like 70-75. although he releases the ball at the 36 yard line, I think you're forgetting that he throwing cross the field. From the right hash marks to the sideline, so thats like an added 10 yards. unless you are being sarcastic, then well, thats just funny.
Most of all you guys are full of shit i will never believe you can throw tht far till you show me with proof some high school quartbacks cant even throw 50 yrs(with pads n helmet) people like Elkridgehurrican should be shot at birth Im14 and a Qb For HS freshmen team Longest throw i can make without pads is like 47-51. (with pads and helmet is about 41-46 but it doesnt matter about how far you can throw it, Rlly important Skillz to becoming a GreatQB Leadership,Footwork,Accrucy,Mechanics
It hit somebodys hands that were put up in the air at about 63. I think estimating it would have went 70 untouched is fair. Yall are a bunch of idiots
Lucky to have arm like that I can get a high school balll about 60 at the most 60 usually on good days but only 50 accurately and an nfl or ncaa ball like 45-50 but only 40 accurately
u guys are all stupid..its a video of a player whos a "3rd string" throwing the ball..he couldve thrown it farther u dont know that..put some jamarcus russel videos up..one of the worst nfl quarterbacks of all-time and brady quinns receivers were worse and he has a better carrer than russel so stfu...spedo i like how u care enough to comment on it...whos ur favorite quarterback? jason cambell?
Wow...what a meaningless video. I've never seen idiots get as excited over an incomplete pass. JaMarcus Russell can throw it even further than Beck did and he sucks too.
lol at the guy saying he should be an nfl starter....just because u have a strong arm doesnt mean u can be a qb, u need accuracy, decision making, footwork, physical and mental toughness, the will to be great. trusting ur teammates, being a leader and much more
@funkster3019 Was that not accurate? was that not good decision making? was that not avaiding the rush, yes you need all of those things But Arm Strength is definately a HUGE part of a QB game and if you say otherwise you don't know much about football.
Actually it was 62 yards. In 2002 during NFL QB Challenge Jeff Garcia and Tom Brady on the long throw both launched it 65 yards. Peyton Manning launched it 67 yards and one time warren moon and bret favre launched it 72 yards.
im a freshman in highschool for a class c team, and i can throw 45. now if only i could get it to land where i wanted it to after i threw it the 45. haha.
Matthew Stafford is the most overrated player in this draft. He had a 59% completion rate against bowl teams. He and Georgia are incredibly overrated. All that Stafford has is a very strong arm, but he has no idea what to do with it.
georgia was plagued by injuries including the oline their starting left tackle was out the whole year and the defense was even worse trust me if we were healthy you would have seen a better team
stafford played in the sec

like it or not hes a very good player and likely to be the number one pick
i did not say that either of them were not good, i said that they were overrated. Matthew Stafford is a good quarterback, but certainly not deserving of the number one overall selection, which most people have him picked as. And Georgia was a good team, but even with the injuries that they had, they still should never have been number one, and it just shows how awful preseason rankings are
Stafford has all the tools. What doesn't he have? The touch on the ball is about it. Georgia was the preseason #1 team and rightfully so....returned almost every playmaker from the year before.
You realize Georgia lost 15 players to season ending injuried and still went 10-3, right? Let me know when BYU wins or even makes it to a BCS Bowl like Stafford and Georgia did.
We all know Georgia would have beat the shit out of BYU last year.
Well, considering the fact that i never said that BYU was any good, or that would they beat Georgia you are wrong. Also, maybe 3 of those players played a major role. and When did Stafford and Georgia get the the BCS, oh yeah the year before they were preseason #1. they got the #1 based upon the momentum carried over from the previous season, and momentum carried over a period of 7 months really doesnt play a huge role in the next season
im not a fan of any of these teams, (im a patriots fan) and that was pretty impressive, and no football player or baseball player or w/e sucks, i mean there in the major leauges for a reason!
Distance is overrated. According to Dan Marino, Mark Duper (a wide receiver) through it farther than him -- some 80 yards or more.
Now, it's clear Beck has arm strength. He threw it 61.1mph at the combine, which was better than all but one (including Troy Smith) in 2006 and better than Cutler the previous year. He just choose to throw it with more touch with BYU because his receivers couldn't handle the heat. However, in the NFL, they can, so he'll have to bring that part of his game back.
Wooh! Dolphins got a 47? I think you mean 37 there genius., own 37 to the 2 = 61 yards. Even if 70 is slightly exaggerated that's still a huge throw and it's about the the Dolphins got a QB with a cannon like Dan Marino.
He is about 25 yards from the sideline, and his front foot is at his 36 or 37 yard line. The ball would probably land at the goal line. That's TWO dimensions: 25 by 64.
This comment is right. For those of you that failed geometry, go back and study. This is still much farther than the 36 or 37 to the goal line because it was a diagonal throw instead of a direct throw.
Who needs Quinn when we just pickedd up Beck and Green, and another sick wr to replace Welker, and also dont forget we got joey porterr,so all u phin fans who dont like this years draft can blow themselves, and go cheer for another team. Zach thomas,Channing Crowder and Joey Poter are gunna rip the back feildd just watch, #1 defence of the year
yay but bad first rounder i like ted qinn but he's a farliy good catcher but greater kick returner all in all fair darft for miam thats all i have to say.
Yeah like some other dude said he is 25, turning 26 when the season starts, because he was on a Mormon Mission, so he has to start A.S.A.P but since Daunte is not looking 100% he has his chance. given Trent Green Doesnt get Aquired in a Trade with KC.
If I remember correctly Beck was just a freshman in this game. BYU was getting throttled big time in this game and they brought in Beck to throw a hail mary to end the half, only difference is this ball is low, tight and he gunned it for a receiver, he didn't just throw it up. He does have a cannon for an arm.
Welcome to the Dolphins, Mr. Beck ;) His highlight reel looks pretty good too - fast release, good feet and checks down to find the open receiver when the deep routes aren't there.
Legend has it that Beck threw a ball from the 50 yard line, on his knees, through the uprights and hit the endzone wall of BYU's Stadium (about 10-15 yards past the back line). To tell you the truth, I'm pretty skeptical about this; but if so, it surpasses even Russell's 64 yard bomb from his knees.
Granted, there's the altitude factor and all, and Russell was indoors, eliminating the wind factor.
Beck has a rocket, and has a fast delivery. He had a 93 MPH fastball as a pitcher in high school. He barely looks like he's putting any force into his throws half the time, but they sail over halfway across the field.
this guy has no resemblance to jamarcus russell... ya beck has a good arm, but no where near what russell has. Russell through 64 yards kneeling down. Beck would be lucky to through 70 yards off his feet. Russell, probably 85-90.
Resemblance your right but the other way around Jamarcus Russell isnt going to come close to this guy. John Beck is the real deal, if you look at this video closer you will see he hits the guy's hands on target, his accuracy and release is probably the closest I have ever seen to Dan Marino. I have been watching the whole season and I was going crazy when Miami drafted him, he will be the starter next year and in two more years we will be SB champs!
JaMarcus Russell doesn't HAVE accuracy dipshit...go watch him play, 90% of his passes are at the recievers feet, or he's underthrowing a ball over 30 yards...He has a cannon, but the guy is a joke compared to Beck as far as accuracy goes..
Did I call you names? Listen Fag, you're not a scout so STFU. Russell was no. 1 overall. Where did your boy go again? What a joke. Did BYU ever win a game btw?
This is around 55 yards! Stupid announcers must be out of work for being off by 20 yards.

so what if he is 26 Warren Moon Started in his Late 20's so did Jeff Garcia.
TheGame271979 4 years ago
Yeah like some other dude said he is 25, turning 26 when the season starts, because he was on a Mormon Mission, so he has to start A.S.A.P but since Daunte is not looking 100% he has his chance. given Trent Green Doesnt get Aquired in a Trade with KC.

comparing JaMarcus Russell to this guy ... uh .. come'on ... it was a good play .. but .. come'on .. seriously ... come'on ... (lol)
report1453 4 years ago
JaMarcus's clone (actually it's the other way around), Daunte Culpepper, got cut by the Dolphins with Beck on the roster.
I'll be surprised if Russell does crap in the pros. He didn't impress me in college.
jatube78 4 years ago
65 yards. Not 70.
hanuma 4 years ago
Throw in the trigonometric hypotenuse, and it's close to 70. He close to the middle of the field and threw it to the corner, past the goalline.
jatube78 4 years ago
^ He WAS close. I miss an editing function...

yes and a new dolphin qb
miamidolphins86 4 years ago
How often do QB's really throw 50+ yards in the AIR? Rarely unless your team is losing and needs a hailmary.
If he can throw a SOLID 30-40 yard pass, that's all he really needs.
dtmheat 4 years ago
If I remember correctly Beck was just a freshman in this game. BYU was getting throttled big time in this game and they brought in Beck to throw a hail mary to end the half, only difference is this ball is low, tight and he gunned it for a receiver, he didn't just throw it up. He does have a cannon for an arm.
lemonstarch 4 years ago
you can argue about relative arm strength but either way what's a cannon if you can't use it as well as Jamarcus

Welcome to the Dolphins, Mr. Beck ;) His highlight reel looks pretty good too - fast release, good feet and checks down to find the open receiver when the deep routes aren't there.
Zboots 4 years ago
John Beck is 25, 26 season start! If he sits one year his gonna be 27 years old, in other words Tony Romo age, he has a nice arm.
john777123 4 years ago
Legend has it that Beck threw a ball from the 50 yard line, on his knees, through the uprights and hit the endzone wall of BYU's Stadium (about 10-15 yards past the back line). To tell you the truth, I'm pretty skeptical about this; but if so, it surpasses even Russell's 64 yard bomb from his knees.
Granted, there's the altitude factor and all, and Russell was indoors, eliminating the wind factor.
jatube78 4 years ago
Do you really believe this? I mean come on!!
maburu2 4 years ago
What part of "I'm skeptical" did you miss?
Besides, Beck says it wasn't true -- it was the 47. He couldn't clear it from 50. Don't know about the back wall claim though.
jatube78 4 years ago
Beck has a rocket, and has a fast delivery. He had a 93 MPH fastball as a pitcher in high school. He barely looks like he's putting any force into his throws half the time, but they sail over halfway across the field.
jatube78 4 years ago
this guy has no resemblance to jamarcus russell... ya beck has a good arm, but no where near what russell has. Russell through 64 yards kneeling down. Beck would be lucky to through 70 yards off his feet. Russell, probably 85-90.
ryancure 4 years ago
Resemblance your right but the other way around Jamarcus Russell isnt going to come close to this guy. John Beck is the real deal, if you look at this video closer you will see he hits the guy's hands on target, his accuracy and release is probably the closest I have ever seen to Dan Marino. I have been watching the whole season and I was going crazy when Miami drafted him, he will be the starter next year and in two more years we will be SB champs!
dolfan4evr 4 years ago
Probably right...he will be good. I guess I am hater because I go to a Mountain West school and this guy throttled us every time.
ryancure 4 years ago
Have you seen JaMarcus Russell's accuracy? I rest my case. btw, JaMarcus Russell threw the ball 64 yards from his KNEE!!!
maburu2 4 years ago
JaMarcus Russell doesn't HAVE accuracy dipshit...go watch him play, 90% of his passes are at the recievers feet, or he's underthrowing a ball over 30 yards...He has a cannon, but the guy is a joke compared to Beck as far as accuracy goes..
ttrraavviiss300 4 years ago
Did I call you names? Listen Fag, you're not a scout so STFU. Russell was no. 1 overall. Where did your boy go again? What a joke. Did BYU ever win a game btw?
maburu2 4 years ago
Not a BYU Fan, I LUV LSU 4 life! But,As a matter of fact BYU won 11 games plus the bowl game

I heard this guy's like 26 years' old. So basically, Quinn and Russell morphed together except with the weight of the Russell.

Wow what an arm!
The ball was about 5 or 6 yards deep into the enzone!
And I agree he is the best Quarter Back in the draft and nation! Beck is amazing!
bleedblueforbyu 4 years ago
Beck has a cannon, and he's the best QB entering the draft.
