As long as the batteries are full charged there will be little extra drag on the engine from extra alternators. When there is current draw the alternators are under load and supply amperage, otherwise think of them being in idle. So there is no real fuel consumption except when recharging the batteries or powering the amplifiers.

It's easier to use a chain. You never run the chance of slippage, and I doubt you could find a belt long enough to turn so many alternators. Also this is DB drag. The biggest resistence will be mechanical, not electrical.
No, I mean in supplying the electrical demands to such a powerful sound system, and that the resistance of a chain is insignificant compared to how much less slip it's going to achieve. (If anything I think a chain would be more efficient, though perhaps at high speed it is less efficient then a belt, although they'll be hysteresis losses in belt rubber)
You're right, the chain will have less slippage which is the bigger worry. Have a nice V8 packin plenty of TQ and resistance won't even be the issue, only fuel economy.

I have a question... Wouldn't dB and spl be dependant upon where the microphone or sensor is placed? So when they say a jet takeoff is 100 dB, where is the point of reference? And also, where is the sound in these cars measured? Surely a rocket launch would be louder than this car if measured from the same distance?!

vizdotnu you´re absolutely right. Another important thing is, "Jet takeoffs" and so on are mesured with a completely different db-scale. It´s actually "dB(a)" - and in dB-Drag it´s dB(c) wich is more likely the PRESSURE than the loudness. But television is for stupid ppl therefore they tell ppl what "idiots" we are for making cars louder than a jet takeoff.... you see, its nothing like a bunch of b*llsh*t what "they" say about our hobby, our sport...

@vizdotnu Aside from the different measurements of dB, the point of reference makes a huge difference, but its also usually documented along with the dB measurement. At 100 feet a rocket engine is 140 dB. Car stereos are usually metered in 2 places, dash/windshield and port.

It's easier to use a chain. You never run the chance of slippage, and I doubt you could find a belt long enough to turn so many alternators. Also this is DB drag. The biggest resistence will be mechanical, not electrical.

No, I mean in supplying the electrical demands to such a powerful sound system, and that the resistance of a chain is insignificant compared to how much less slip it's going to achieve. (If anything I think a chain would be more efficient, though perhaps at high speed it is less efficient then a belt, although they'll be hysteresis losses in belt rubber)

You're right, the chain will have less slippage which is the bigger worry. Have a nice V8 packin plenty of TQ and resistance won't even be the issue, only fuel economy.
