that's the same hit that Steve Downie was suspended for. he didn't leave his feet, that's all momentum, or hit the head but the whiplash there, might as well have. i think he borderline took more than 3 steps into it though. these hits wouldn't happen if more than 3 steps into a hit was still called charging, players would know they can't hit guys full tilt.
this one is iffy due to camera angles. Some show no feet leaving the ice, others are pretty close. I think he left his feet after contact but he starts low and goes up so its hard to tell. The head part, it looks like he does make contact with the head but probably not first. Either way it was close call IMO and im a blues fan BTW

Yeah after five more watches, look at Tootoo's body. At contact. He purposely went high. Watch him explode upwards instead of into Carlo. If Carlo was just a foot further away, Tootoo would have completely been off the ice by the time he made contact.

There is a difference between lunging forward and exploding upward. Why was he going high to begin with? He was trying to hurt instead of trying to separate a player from the puck. If he would have stayed low and gone through Carlo then he wouldn't have been penalized.
@NHLArchive Like I said, there is a difference between exploding into and exploding high. He did make contact with Carlo's head. I think he hit his shoulder first but, like I said, if he stayed low and went through Carlo's chest, he wouldn't of even given the ref the option to "unduly" penalize him. And Carlo probably still would have stayed down due to having the wind knocked out of him. This is the same distinction the NFL is trying to make.
@NHLArchive There is something wrong with that. Why was he going high if his intent was not to injure. The intent should be to separate your opponent from the puck and to stay on your feet. How I was taught, "If you hit someone and fall over, you lose. If you hit someone and you both go down, you lose. If you hit someone and they lose the puck and you stay on your feet, you win." He should have never been going up. If he stayed low he still would have crushed Carlo and not been penalized.

Yes, this was a clean hit. As a hockey player, you skate with your head up, and clearly he was looking at the puck and not up (just because the player isn't looking up does not make this a blind side hit). If you pay attention to the replay, Tootoo stops skating at the top of the circles, and goes fully on momentum all the way until the hit. Clearly, a shoulder to shoulder. And the only reason Tootoo leaves his feet is because Colaiacovo was lower than Tootoo.
Clean hit? Its close, shoulder to shoulder for sure. Blind side? I think so.
Colo was looking to the guy on his back and was not expecting a hit from that side and was not really facing that direction. At full speed it does looks like he leaves his feet before contact.
After looking at it a few times, its pretty close to a clean it and to me is questionable but its defenatly a cheap shot.

that's the same hit that Steve Downie was suspended for. he didn't leave his feet, that's all momentum, or hit the head but the whiplash there, might as well have. i think he borderline took more than 3 steps into it though. these hits wouldn't happen if more than 3 steps into a hit was still called charging, players would know they can't hit guys full tilt.

this one is iffy due to camera angles. Some show no feet leaving the ice, others are pretty close. I think he left his feet after contact but he starts low and goes up so its hard to tell. The head part, it looks like he does make contact with the head but probably not first. Either way it was close call IMO and im a blues fan BTW
Also the one annoucer cant even keep up with regular play and pang is usually pretty fair color guy.

Thata a clean hit..it was not a charge because he had his feet planted (for a while actually) and carlo touched the puck so it is clean..he did not leave his feet..also, coliacovo should have learned by now that you r prone to a hit like that in that situation..a lot of players look for that instance to hit a defenseman..im a blues fan and from st louis so im not biast..im just calling it how it is..a clean good hard hit by tootoo

Yeah after five more watches, look at Tootoo's body. At contact. He purposely went high. Watch him explode upwards instead of into Carlo. If Carlo was just a foot further away, Tootoo would have completely been off the ice by the time he made contact.

@NHLArchive The thing that is wrong with it is that the timing shouldn't matter. At no point should you be going up. You should be trying to go through your opponent. There is a difference between lunging forward and exploding upward. Why was he going high to begin with? He was trying to hurt instead of trying to separate a player from the puck. If he would have stayed low and gone through Carlo then he wouldn't have been penalized.

@NHLArchive Like I said, there is a difference between exploding into and exploding high. He did make contact with Carlo's head. I think he hit his shoulder first but, like I said, if he stayed low and went through Carlo's chest, he wouldn't of even given the ref the option to "unduly" penalize him. And Carlo probably still would have stayed down due to having the wind knocked out of him. This is the same distinction the NFL is trying to make.

@NHLArchive There is something wrong with that. Why was he going high if his intent was not to injure. The intent should be to separate your opponent from the puck and to stay on your feet. How I was taught, "If you hit someone and fall over, you lose. If you hit someone and you both go down, you lose. If you hit someone and they lose the puck and you stay on your feet, you win." He should have never been going up. If he stayed low he still would have crushed Carlo and not been penalized.

He does leave his feet but it is hard to tell if he did that or Carlos shoulder pushed Tootoo up on his way down. If you pause it right as the hit occurs it looks like it was a shoulder to the shoulder/neck area. There is no reason that a person who is 5'9 should be up that high on someone who is 6'1. You are taught to put your shoulder in your opponents chest.

Yes, this was a clean hit. As a hockey player, you skate with your head up, and clearly he was looking at the puck and not up (just because the player isn't looking up does not make this a blind side hit). If you pay attention to the replay, Tootoo stops skating at the top of the circles, and goes fully on momentum all the way until the hit. Clearly, a shoulder to shoulder. And the only reason Tootoo leaves his feet is because Colaiacovo was lower than Tootoo.

Colo was looking to the guy on his back and was not expecting a hit from that side and was not really facing that direction. At full speed it does looks like he leaves his feet before contact.
After looking at it a few times, its pretty close to a clean it and to me is questionable but its defenatly a cheap shot.
