So much more than a song...a gateway to a way of life, for those who care to listen. Thank you for posting this beautiful and inspirational work of art.
Love this. Nothing like hearing it sung by the man who wrote it! Teaching this song to 20+ youngsters at the Truro Children's Garden to perform at the 2nd Annual Truro Agricultural Fair next month.
I've had the pleasure of seeing David twice in house concert and he quite simply has the most beautiful voice on the planet. His songs are beautifully crafted and his guitar playing superb! Go see him if you ever have the chance.
I heard David Mallett sing this song recently at the Prairie Home Compannion show and it was so beautiful and lyrical. I had not heard someone sing this song with so much soul--for lack of a better term--It's been ringing in my head ever since. A true gem of a singer, reminds me of that great canadian, Gordon Lightfoot.
My wife and I (along with my sister and her husband) saw Dave and Livingston Taylor on New Year's Eve in Portland ME a couple of years ago. You couldn't help but come out of the show without having a warm feeling. I love this song. Thanks Dave!
Lovely treatment of a wonderful piece. Thanks.

@blmangum I saw him twice: once in Calais, ME (International Homecoming Festival), and again in Unity, ME (MOFGA Common Ground Country Fair).
I grew up listening to this song (a cover of it on a tape from Music For Little People).
