She'll be 80 next year! She was well into her thirties by the time she hit the bigtime in America. With almost 70 million record sales I think she's the most successsful British singer ever. Saw her a few years ago in the West End in Sunset Boulevard. Apparently she holds the record for playing Norma Jesmond too.
Wonder how much these people had to practice this silly tongue twister before they could let it roll off their lips with such easy??? Thanks for the post. I enjoyed seeing young Petula.
Thanks for posting..it's good to see how she sang in her teens..Petula has always been a class act..glad she came to our country & we got to hear all those great songs..Downtown, My Love, I Couldn't Live Without Your Love,etc...
who obviously are enjoying themselves? maybe your nihilist worldview would be satisfied if they had a run-in with a bunch of desert dwelling cannibals.
The Huggets Abroad, only used to watch those movies when they came on TV to see Pet. Has anyone else had such a long singing career that has been captured on media - well over 60 years by my calculations.
Well, hardly an MTV video matrox, as this was from a feature film. But in fact, before they were making videos with singles on a regular basis, the BBC used to have to make some sort of a film for Top of the Pops here in the UK, as Petula was rarely in the country when her records were in the charts. I believe they did it for My Love and for Subway, possibly others too.
For any history buffs-that truck is a CMP-canadian military pattern made in mass numbers for the war-some are still around, they are worth a fair bit for old trucks of their type. I heard she was a child star-nice to see this old stuff, thanks for posting it!!
Yes 789746, and on through Don't Sleep in the Subway, Du bist fur mich eine Mann, Destiny, right up to Driven by Emotion, her latest single. Magical woman. You're right Shoemaker, you can tell she was gonna be something, even back then... but who would have guess SOOOO big
Oh wow. classic!!! awesome!!! It's almost impossible to imagine that 50+ years on she'd still be singing her songs... not that she'd sing this one I guess. Maybe we should request it for her big London concert in November. Whatcha think? Brilliant Shoemaker. Thanks for sharing.
A delightful find...sweet ..thanks for posting.

A bad voice overdub for Jimmy Hanley, the driver!

I didn't realise it was dubbed. I wouldn't have thought there was much point, but if his voice was that bad...

Not to take away from Pet, but Kathleen Harrison steals the show once again...

From 'Doodle-Oodle' to 'Downtown' she's always De-Lightful, De-Licious and De-Lovely
