@bradleypolinsky I did get to read a little of your message. For info all Microsoft Disks contain all versions of Windows on it. They just stick a different sticker on it. It is unlocked via the serial number you use. You can pick 32 or 64 bit depending on your computer and your needs.
@kraisydave Thank you for the reply. The confusion I expressed came from chatting with five different Microsoft Reps before one of them admitted that I could simply custom install if I wanted to upgrade my 32bit OS to 64. The usual response from them was that I was required to buy a full version if I wanted to do this. They said the only drawback was having to install an earlier version of windows before I could do this on a new hard drive. Good thing we have a way around that, eh?
@bradleypolinsky It is hard to speak with them on the phone...believe me I know. And yep.. this method will get around that. Also I have another trick if you have trouble getting things to stick. Let me know how it goes.
@XolosTijuana12 Depends. Usually your pc has a hidden partition that can be activated when the computer starts. That partition can restore your pc to when it was first purchased.
@XolosTijuana12 If you want to reinstall windows you will need your drivers. I would suggest you look on the website of your computers manufacturer. If you do not find anything you could still erase your computer and find the individual drivers for each piece by each pieces manufacturer.
@TheOscar786787 I am not sure what your statement means. But if you are not seeing a hard drive then something else is going on with your computer. Did you build it or buy it whole? How old is it? What operating system is on it now if any?
@TheOscar786787 You most likely have to install the drivers for your motherboard. Usually this is for raid. The drivers should come with your motherboard. you have to save them onto a cd or dvd. when the screen pops up to format you need to pick load driver first before anything.Point to the dvd or cd where the drivers are located. WHen the drivers are installed your hard drive will appear.
@kraisydave Cheers mate, I'll give you a shout how it goes. Hopefully my Windows 7 upgrade disk will arrive on Monday the same time as my parts (fingers crossed).
@FMMProductions No worries... Glad to help if I can. It is just nice to use the upgrade and get a cheaper price, plus if you buy the family one you get 3 licenses. Let me know how it goes.
@FMMProductions I managed to get my Windows 7 to install and activate using the upgrade disk only. :) I got my Windows 7 from software4students dotcom and it comes with the product key so im sorted.
@FMMProductions Did you type the product key in where he said not to enter anything? I'm planning on getting my Win7 upgrade disc from there and would like to know more.
@JoshDH123 When installing i selected Custom Install then when it asks for the product key i skipped it (and also selected not to be prompted when connected to the internet) and then connected to the internet and activated it from the 'Activation' program.
My version of Windows 7 might be slightly different though as i got it from a website where its aimed at students, i could be wrong though.
I'm a little confused. Does this mean that with my new pc I'm building with brand new untouched SSD drive I can install W7 with the upgrade disk only? Because I'm pretty sure that because you already had Windows 7 installed the setup allows the install to continue? I could be wrong and help would be appreciated.
@FMMProductions In theory yes. I have used this method many times on blank computers, but your build may effect it. However I doubt it would. Microsoft strangely supports this also, but they dont help people do it. There are two ways to use the upgrade disk. If this method fails let me know and I will help you through the other.
sir on the last part you say that download your drivers right??? so that means I can get them by just going to the updates??? is this right? help me please!!
@johnlery1021 No, this is not correct. Some drivers can be in updates, but you will need all the drivers for your individual computer or you risk not having a correct control for your mouse pad or formatting for your LCD layout or motherboard controls...etc.. You can find these drivers usually on the computer manufactures website.
@kraisydave thank you very much for correcting me.,.,now I fully understand where can I get the drivers and utilities that you are saying.,,.thank you very much..
@johnlery1021 Glad to help when I can. Hope all goes smooth for you. If you run into issues just hit me up here or on private youtube message and I will get back to you as quick as I can.
@johnlery1021 Here is the microsoft answer...If you were directed to this method, you have the correct product key, but you have to try entering it again to reactivate Windows 7. To do this, follow these steps:... I cannot put likes here, but you can private message me I will send it. I have other methods for this to take also....
@johnlery1021 There is another trick if you cannot get it to take. Remove the computer from the internet. Install like in my video one more time clean. Do NOT enter a key ever and never let it connect to the internet. Now go through the install one more time, but this second time upgrade and then it will take. This is a backup method I usually use for Macs running windows. Funny because microsoft supports this...

@kraisydave after reinstalling for 4 times I am glad to say that It is fully register.,.yes!!!!,.,thank you kraisydave you guide me until I fully install win. 7 .,.thanks a lot.,.your the man!.....
@ConnorHD3 In theory yes. Can you run windows on it right now as it is? If yes, then all you need to do is install windows once and then install it over itself before letting it reach out to the internet. You should be all set then as long as your individual build can support windows. Let me know...
@kraisydave I have not built it yet, I just ordered my parts so when I put it together it will be nothing but BIOS. Is what your saying, clean install it using this method. Run after the OS is loaded, use the Admin prompt, change that certain 1 to a 0, and clean install again?
@ConnorHD3 You are venturing into new territory for me on this one. I have now applied this method to a brand new build. I am guessing that you would just need to install windows normally once and let it take, but not talk to the internet..no physical connection. You would then use the upgrade disk to again load windows, but over the last copy. This trick it what is needed is some cases to get the upgrade license number to take. But I am not sure how your lacking drivers will play in.
@SwedishBerzerker No prob... it is funny because even if they said it was illegal it would still be legal. You legally bought the copy of windows. You should be able to use it however you like so long as it is for personal use and not copying to sell. Say you bought a song, but the seller said you can only listen to it in your car, but never on your ipod. Who are they to say that. You bought the rights to hear it. So you should be able to listen however and whenever you like. Same goes for this.

@kraisydave Yeah, and it's pretty odd they support this type of installation since there's no point in getting the full version when you can just do this. It's the exact same OS after you've installed it, right? :)
@SwedishBerzerker It is the same. The DvD has a copy of every level of Windows on it. It saves them money that way, but it also bites them as people figure this out. Win7 Premium is Win7 Premium whether on an upgrade disk or regular clean install disk.
@kraisydave hey man, Mine dosent have any drivers. I used to fixe it with gparted but few weeks I got an error that said "no devices were found" can you please tell me if theres another way to insall drivers from a cd. m laptop is a toshiba and has windows 7.
@jorge201021 You can get drivers from a few places. The CD from toshiba (may need to order), the toshiba website for your model, and from the individual manufacture of the specific part...example would be the video card. Go to say the manufacturer such as NVIDIA and download the appropriate drivers from there. Those are just some ideas..let me know.
@SwedishBerzerker Just remember, it's only legal if you actually own a copy of XP/Vista. The majority of computer users in the world DO so it's not really an issue, but just fair warning :D
I have a upgrade disk and a computer I built myself. There is no previous version of windows on it at the moment so can I go ahead and do these steps or buy vista and then use the upgrade disk?
@RingoFreakingStarr There are two tricks you can try. One is to do a full new install with the upgrade disk without entering the key. Then upgrade over the full install using the same disk and it should take. Or use the process from the video. I have never done this on a blank harddrive, but really it is the same thing as installing a clean copy is also formatting the drive. Let me know if it works please.
@kraisydave Will do; I have a copy of vista on it's way from buy.com but it won't get here when the parts arrive so if I can get away with getting Windows 7 installed w/o it you better believe it will be on its way back and I will be getting my $90 back
@RingoFreakingStarr I cannot think of a reason it would not work. But again I have not tried that. If you did not know your Win 7 family disk has all versions of Windows 7 on it, They just slap a different sticker on it and use the key to limit the user. I say you bought Win 7, who are they to tell you which computer you can use it on.
So if I build a pc from scratch and by that I mean I buy the parts myself and put the pc together (completely new hard drive) can I take the upgrade disk and do a clean install on that hard drive? I would be using the windows 7 family pack upgrade. I would really appreciate an answer.
@XxBlueDieselxX Yes, but that is the least of your worries if you have never built a computer before. You are connecting parts and will need drivers for each that will all talk to whatever operating system you pick. The windows disk will not have those drivers. You will need to find each from each individual manufacturer. If something does not talk to something else that you buy it will be a hard item to solve. If you buy say a dell you can call dell if you have problems. Something to consider.
@heavyjavadrinker I have not tried on a family pack, but I did on the "Three License" disk... All windows disks have the same information on them to include all versions of Win7. They only put a different sticker on it. So you should be good to go. Let me know if it works out. Back up your old system and have an original copy of your old system to boot from if you run into trouble.
@logandew1 Sometimes one type of computer has trouble w/ this process. My Mac Air had the same issue as you. Perform a clean install as per the video. DO NOT connect to the internet. DO NOT update your computer. Then once Win7 is on there power off the on. Insert the upgrade disk again and this time Upgrade Win7 or Win7. The activation will take if your numbers are still good. Let me know how it goes.
what about the system that i had before the upgrade? I mean windows vista...The thing that i dont understand is is windows 7 not working on the vista sytem..bc its an upgrade disc.
