my dad got the 96 version of this car, and has lovingly had this car for 15 years. He has restored, maintained, and updated this car, and i feel like i'm driving a piece of history when he lets me take the wheel for a while. This car reminds me of so many warm memories of my childhood.
the 993...its aesthetics and road dynamics reek of everything Porsche has alwys stood for, it is representative of the pillar and pinnacle of 911 development, it is doubtful if Porsche will ever improve upon this breed of 911 no matter how hard it tries in future years, Porsche might one day make a better car, but it wont make a better 911
@YZ125ups It really depends on what you are looking for *assuming you are in the US*... A cabriolet like I have fetches a bit less than a coupe, and I really haven't followed the Targa market. Any of the "S" or "4S" widebody cars can be had for $30-50k. Standard Carreras are anywhere from $22-40k. Color, condition, maintenance records, mileage, and a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) are a must for the top dollar cars. The 993 is pretty much a bullet proof track car or daily driver.
The simple fact that Porsche dealerships were pleading with Porsche to continue the 993 along with the 996 says something about how popular the 993 series was... the culmination of the air cooled evolution produced the epitome that will be hard to top... the 993.
That sound is INTOXICATING!!!! Agree with what was said below, this car was the end of an era and will always hold a special place in the 911 history books. Porsche made the right call moving to water cooled engines, but they just don't have the character of the air cooled ones. I hope I'll get to own a 993 one day.
I've got a 1994 993 carrera, essentially the same 272hp model as the one in the film. Lightweight, fun, responsive, fast, it's still the best everyday 993 in my book. Needs to be well set up and maintained with the right rubber though, to exploit that nimble handling. Incredibly rewarding to drive day in, day out. Never had a boring journey.
I love the 993, it was the ending to an era, and the door to a new. The 993 is the car that saved Porsche and brought them to the 21st century. The last classic Porsche.
@porschecarreragtmay6 so true, i think those afterwards were a little crapy, because they didnt remain with the old headlight designe, i' mean a 911 has to have these classic, big and round headlights, very good of porsche that they found back to that designe today :)
my favourite porsche, 993 911 turbo =)
