If you're competing with high-schoolers for a job then chances are the people interviewing you realize that you're a looser and that you won't amount to anything above the entry position. As they've seen several people looking for the same job they can probably smell your shitty attitude and that you're faking a behavior that you won't have on the job. Nobody wants to hire a bullshitter with a bad attitude with no qualifications above a highschooler.
I agree it's hard getting a job now, no matter what country your in. The economy is in tatters and is barely recovering and countries are needing help being bailed out of debt, as a result the job market is appalling and not many people are employing, what's more, more & more people are being made redundant and being put out of a job. I was made redundant in April this year and have applied fir over 70 jobs and have had my applications rejected pretty much the same number of times. Times are ha
Hey sir, I live in Huntsville. I heard you were working at the bowling alley, are you still looking for some work? I can help out, I might know some people for you to talk to.

Also, im 18 (started watching your vids when I was 14 I believe), on the topic of jobs, Ive been pretty fortunate recently, Got a job lined up this summer at a Ice cream shop at the beach, Dont be jealous, Lol. Yeah but theese days everyone is looking for a job hell my mom's been on Unemployment for 5 months and she has a masters degree for christs sake, everyones in the same boat.
Mouldy, oily ass? LOL! Mmm-kay. If you say so! I haven't watched one of your videos in a couple yrs (I am a fan from the very early days!) so when I came across this I started watching it. Why didn't you stay in California? Seems it would be safer! Anyway, keep safe, keep vlogging, you are awesome. Love ya from a Canadian fan xxxx
lol, man can I relate to this right now. Im looking for a new job myself and everything about it is pissing me off. I think what pisses me off more than anything is when the job description makes the job sound like fuckin rocket science but when you really break down all the big words you realize that the job is probably just another typical office job where you start off imputing shit into spreadsheets and doing cold calls. Like they need to just keep it short and simple.
There's so much BS out on the webs about working from home via the internet too. They want to reel you in and make you buy some kind of training guide or something....I wonder how many people have tried to do this and found it futile?
Keep blogging please. It's about your life. Not about you riding around in a car telling how what you're going to do for the day like all the others. Yours is just what you do, and it's pretty awesome.
Yeah, If I didnt have inroutes somehow, I wouln't have had but my 1st 2 jobs. I get nervous too easily when put on the spot so I absolutely hate interviews, Im not that smooth talker, but I put my all into work and hate sitting around doing nothing. Trust, I wouldn't be able to come up with that answer in an interview. Glad I have a job, could use a better one, but most could. Nice to see a rant video like this, You were always good at finding bullshit in society!
Go to the TV and radio stations...You are a man of the media...Why not use the God given talent you've got in a job where you can use it?...Make your own case for a job...You do it all the time in these videos...You can do it IRL too...

You say that it would be better if people were just honest about who they are. Unfortunately there are some people out there who no one would ever want to hire because they would make terrible employees. The only way that those people can get a job is to lie. So employers have to view everyone with a suspicious eye as they try to filter out the most execrable applicants.
Perhaps it is your intolerance for talking yourself up & sounding like a dick head that puts you ahead of the rest. ;)
Who you know is far more important than what you know. My problem is bad because I am in a very narrow field, and the one time I interviewed with someone from college, he knew me as one of the grade "curve wreckers." But after he made it clear I would never be hired, we had a nice chat. :\
Dude I completely agree with you. I fucking hate interviews. And I'm job hunting right now as well cause I need a job for the summer and for the next year. Fucking hate this shit!
Boh3m3, your problem is your attitude. You said what they want, and that's right, that's what you should want to do too. Why wouldn't you want more hours? You should always interview as yourself; if you're being fake they know that and don't like it.
@Hrel88 Not everyone wants to be an indentured servant to a corporation or business! If I say I want 40 hours, thats it, that should be acceptable, unless its a Flat salary per year gig, but the expectation is known when you sign onto a job like that (but again who would want to work more hours given that situation?)
Well said! It is the circle jerk. Just got a job after a year on unemployment. The US job market will eventually adopt the EU"temp agency" model. Here every employer works with Temp agency and your job (always a contract) is for 3/6/9/12 months . So you know you'll never make enough money because they're skimming your salary! This makes it easier at least here in DE to hire / fire . Loved this Video
Oh...and kotosama's comment down the page is crap....he/she says "they can relate", and then follows it up revealing they got the job because a relative used there influence....this kinda thing annoys me the most. How about getting out there kotosama and competing on a level field. The best person should get the job not the most connected person. It's tantamount to cheating.
Enjoyed the vid...BUT....I want you to know that I had an employer that I really wanted to work for and we musta done the dance for months, me ringing every couple of weeks to see if that job he promised was there, was there. Well it paid off and when I got into the place I was pretty much in the fast lane too as they knew I really wanted to be there.....so, do the dance, hound the company, I does work.
This format was really surprisingly watchable, Ben. Weirdly so, as I'm not a fan of watching people eat and talk at the same time, but the cutaways and different locations during the monologue looked pretty slick.
@bettzeug Fat guy? Really? That's why no one hires him? Despite the fact he's an obviously well educated man with a very sharp intellect, they don't grab him cause he's FAT? The only fat I detect here is the fat obviously filling your head.
Getting strung along is the worst, I went for an interview once, and after, the woman told me I had the job and all she needed to do was get some paperwork in to corporate. By the end of the month she told me all the positions were actually filled. Worst of all I skipped out other interviews, counting on the job.
It will never change. Bullshit will always happen because people bullshat on them and they will always want to bullshit on others. Vicious endless cycle.
Oh btw, butter, margarine, or cheap ass vegetable oil spread? mmm. vein cloggers mmm.
@bettzeug He never used to be. When I was watching him years ago when he was like one of most known Vloggers. I went away from YouTube for a few years, created a new account and forgot about him, the way he was when I stopped watching I assumed he would get pretty big, but I guess he did in one sense.
@bettzeug Ah horse shit. Especially in the restaurant business, people will listen to a fat guy about food since he obviously knows what he's talking about. It's not as if I'm auditioning for a Chinese acrobatic team or something. Pull your head out of your ass.
people in a position to employ in the restaurant industry are generally of an intelligence to differentiate between a food connoisseur and a slob that loads up on burgers and doughnuts.
plus, your attitude may also be part of the reason why you are having a hard time finding employment, your ego and arrogance is coming across in this video and your response, so it likely comes across to employers too,
@boh3m3 but go ahead, block me again and have the last word, all of your fellow fat subs will give you a thumbs up, and trust me, you will remain unemployed or in crappy jobs until you are more humble and able to evaluate yourself and your situation rationally, and that usually comes with age and maturity, trust me I was like you once upon a time,
but I wish you luck, you have nice surroundings around your home, no excuse for not doing some jogging, being fat is a choice
@boh3m3 lol I agree being fat doesn't mean anything. But it doesn't necessarily mean you know good food since a lot of fat people scarf down mcdonalds and doritos all day.
@bettzeug that sir is a bs stigma and "fat" people work for fortune 500 companies and got hired while their fat or like boh3m3. weight doesn't matter it is the work ethic that is count.
@bettzeug fuck off you prejudiced prick. i know fat people at my job that slave 8 hours in a hot ass warehouse no air conditioning no ventilation doing manual labor.fucking scum bag let's see you become a fat fuck then we all can call you a fat lazy pizza addicted slob and see how you feel douche!
@bettzeug Go fuck yourself. Not everyone who is fat is a lazy fuck. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I eat healthy and exercise regularly, but I'm still overweight because it's very damn hard to lose weight when you have this condition. Again, go fuck yourself, take your head out of your ass, and kindly get the fuck off the internet, you ignorant shit.
I miss you. So hard. Your videos entertain me so much and when you make a new one it makes my day. Ive been watching you for years now. Youre my first "Youtuber" I would watch daily then soon ventured on to others as well as keeping up with what you were doing. Keep up the good work. I am a huge fan <3 Good luck with anything you do in the future.
I'm all the things you said an employer wants to hear you are, well... give or take a thing or two, but I've still been looking for work for 5 months. =/
It definitely is who you know rather than what you know
I can relate with the interview shit, thankfully I got kinda lucky with the job I applied to, my aunt has been working there for 3 years, and so she put in a good word for me, so yeah, I do agree it really is based on who you know
Great vlog. Finnally someone who has the same opinion about interviews. I can really relate to the interviews you mentioned and I'm from the UK. This interview style is global I guess.
Good to see you back in Alabama, Ben, despite the stormy welcome back. Job interviewers will always be condescending & flaky. when it comes to interviewees that may threaten their position or try to 'improve' working conditions. At least, that's how I perceive it.
It took me almost a year to find my first job after graduating university, and that was with an engineering degree. I can't imagine what it's like for retail.
Omg I had a crazy dream an u where in it an u lived is a traylor an it was snowing out an u where on a laptop an we where watching vids on YouTube . I think it was ur old fier breathing ones .. Haha ya so weird
I'm a small business owner. Here's the thing... There ARE applicants to be found who are genuinely excited about the company. They're hard to find, but they exist and they're worth searching for.
Be that guy, and you'll get the job. In fact, you might find that working for the employer is actually enjoyable.
@pburto Another detail... Sometimes managers hire people who "just want a job". When they do that, they've given up on finding someone who's really psyched about the job, because they're so hard to find. But if they do a good job interviewing candidates, they can tell the difference.
Not always though, so know what they're looking for. In general, that translates to generalized competence and willingness to go the extra mile. This shows when you SHOW INTEREST and ASK INSIGHTFUL QUESTIONS.
I feel bad seeing someone like you going through this shit. You have talent dude. Your writing is sometimes nothing short of brilliant, and I'm basing this soleyl on what I've seen from years past. I say enroll into film school, get some loans, and see how ti works out.
I agree, alot of the suit and tie shit is a little much, but it's spelled JOB not FUN, I know, I work as a manager for and IT department and I have to say I would much rather hire someone in business attire than shorts and a bowling shirt. It is what it is. You are right with seeing someone as the REALLY are but that's not the way the world works. If you want a job like that look at working from home. Maybe phone support for a company?
Your pretty much right though, every job ive had sofar came through knowing eather the manager, a friend heavly recomending me or on the rare times, know the boss, and be put on a test track.
IMO, you should only put MS word on your resume if you have a cert in it, I could easily say I know basic IT stuff, but dont because I dont have something as easy to get as A+ cert(which I could very easily pass at this point)
Also I completely agree with the "Who you know" part, my school is pretty big on it...yay networking <_<
Lol, I fucked my way into my first job. Literally. I had sex with a girl that worked there and was able to pull strings with the customer service manager. It's actually really funny, all those things you mentioned at the end of the video, I AM and I can't get another job. Lol, it's all about who you know. Find an ugly chick at a place you want to work, get drunk with her, make a mistake, and turn the mistake into a job...then transfer to another store. :p
ben, this is awesome, keep it up. this is the most satisfying rendition of your work I have seen since the beginning of your vlogs. great work, keep em comin.
liked it a lot, your honest venting about shit thats on your mind without censoring it too much is what's kept me watching your videos for idk how many years now.
My first job, they sat me down for two seconds and was like "do you know how to use a computer? yes? Lets start training" My next job I got because I knew the owners, third job, I sold myself like a fucking awesome person. New jobs suck. Took me 5 months to get the third job. Nothing like bumming money from your parents to make you feel independent.
Interview hint. Respectively ask your interviewer more questions (that they can easily answer) than they ask you. A friend who's a human resources manager of a national airline gave me that advice. Good luck with the job hunting.
only 3 weeks? try 8 months! putting in at a minimum 10 job applications per week. No luck. Then again, I live in redneckville, nothing here, Tennessee.
hey Ben I totally agree with what you're saying the whole process is fucked, I hate the way they string you along even if you are the only applicant just in case they get who they really want once the position is filled.
THIS! I've been on a job hunt for months straight. I was told I was hired, I haven't been called for 3 weeks. Such bullshit! I hate looking like an ass hat for bigger ass hats than myself!
I've been 'working' since I left education like, 3 years ago. And everything you said is right. I've always said the interview process is bullshit, its all about faking it, and the employers KNOW that, its jumping through hoops. I've recently re-started the job search as my current employment ends in about 2 months. And i live in ass-shit-nowhere in the UK So its a pain in the arse to get anything at all.
ya fuck that shit.. there is no reason to string ppl along if your nt going to hire them.. tell them.. cause shit then they will leave you alone..x_x

its because you are fat,
nobody wants to employ a fat guy because its darn obvious you are lazy and dont care about your own health,
and if you dont care about your own health, how are you supposed to convince someone that you will care about your work?
being fat essentially means you have no disciple, are lazy and have no motivation, lol and thats the truth no matter what you want to think

You should've kept your Youtube carreer. You could've made alot of money blogging living off of Google checks. Get back involved.

Good to see you back in Alabama, Ben, despite the stormy welcome back. Job interviewers will always be condescending & flaky. when it comes to interviewees that may threaten their position or try to 'improve' working conditions. At least, that's how I perceive it.
OzBros 9 months ago
Yep. Job hunting sucks.
It took me almost a year to find my first job after graduating university, and that was with an engineering degree. I can't imagine what it's like for retail.

I'm a small business owner. Here's the thing... There ARE applicants to be found who are genuinely excited about the company. They're hard to find, but they exist and they're worth searching for.
Be that guy, and you'll get the job. In fact, you might find that working for the employer is actually enjoyable.
pburto 9 months ago 2
@pburto Another detail... Sometimes managers hire people who "just want a job". When they do that, they've given up on finding someone who's really psyched about the job, because they're so hard to find. But if they do a good job interviewing candidates, they can tell the difference.
Not always though, so know what they're looking for. In general, that translates to generalized competence and willingness to go the extra mile. This shows when you SHOW INTEREST and ASK INSIGHTFUL QUESTIONS.

We love you. Plain and simple.

Fuck. Ben you just described my last interview EXACTLY.
TheCl0ckMan 9 months ago
IMO, you should only put MS word on your resume if you have a cert in it, I could easily say I know basic IT stuff, but dont because I dont have something as easy to get as A+ cert(which I could very easily pass at this point)
Also I completely agree with the "Who you know" part, my school is pretty big on it...yay networking <_<
arttay1090 9 months ago
Lol, I fucked my way into my first job. Literally. I had sex with a girl that worked there and was able to pull strings with the customer service manager. It's actually really funny, all those things you mentioned at the end of the video, I AM and I can't get another job. Lol, it's all about who you know. Find an ugly chick at a place you want to work, get drunk with her, make a mistake, and turn the mistake into a job...then transfer to another store. :p

if you rape your interviewer, you will get instantly hired
MoRgUe27 9 months ago
My first job, they sat me down for two seconds and was like "do you know how to use a computer? yes? Lets start training" My next job I got because I knew the owners, third job, I sold myself like a fucking awesome person. New jobs suck. Took me 5 months to get the third job. Nothing like bumming money from your parents to make you feel independent.

Interview hint. Respectively ask your interviewer more questions (that they can easily answer) than they ask you. A friend who's a human resources manager of a national airline gave me that advice. Good luck with the job hunting.

hey Ben I totally agree with what you're saying the whole process is fucked, I hate the way they string you along even if you are the only applicant just in case they get who they really want once the position is filled.
Keep your head up and good luck job hunting

I've been 'working' since I left education like, 3 years ago. And everything you said is right. I've always said the interview process is bullshit, its all about faking it, and the employers KNOW that, its jumping through hoops. I've recently re-started the job search as my current employment ends in about 2 months. And i live in ass-shit-nowhere in the UK So its a pain in the arse to get anything at all.
Best of luck to you Boh3m3.
