does a dually have any advantages offroad (I guess you could call it a 6x6), seems that the extra rear tires sticking out could make getting through deep mud more difficult because they can't follow the ruts the front tires make?

no a dually sucks in the mud and snow...the extra wheels allow less weight to be put on the ground resulting in less tire traction
