its a car worth keeping and maybe ever restoring in the future, eventually the value of classic luxury will go up just like classic muscle. And YES it is a nice car
WOW! That's EXACTLY like the one my mom owned back in the 90s. Down to the same top, faded red paint, white pinstripe, interior; it had 1.3 inch whitewalls, with the original turbined edge hubcaps and same motor too. It was giving to her as a Christmas gift back in Dec of 89. Lots of good and bad memories with the car. Sadly the engine gave out, I believe in 98 or 99 or we thought and was sold.
Really? That's neat. I can imagine that this combination of colors and options was popular.
Blow-by would be gasses that get past the rings or valve guides due to age and/or wear. To not see any blow-by on a warmed up engine of this age and mileage is wonderful! The first time we noticed it I was very impressed, especially given that this car wasn't always cared for.
@CorvusCasull Yes sir! I guess my car has that blow-by. When running and warmed up you can see gasses coming out from where you put oil in. Then again it has over 220,xxx miles. It's a 30yr. old 80 Caddy Coupe; it has had one overhaul at one point. Was given a receipt when I purchased the car. Price; a little over $2000. Is there anything to treat blow-by other than another overhaul?
Yep, those would be blow-by gasses. There isn't a whole lot you can do really. You could try running a slightly thicker oil and see if it helps. (No additives! Just a thicker viscosity). Though that wouldn't treat blow-by generated by bad valve guides. As long as your blow-by isn't launching the oil cap when you loosen it, you're probably fine. When the car is warm and running, remove the oil cap and let it sit on its housing, see if the cap bounces around a lot or goes flying.
@CorvusCasull Wow NICE Shape for a 77...My Dad bought a 77 olds cutlass Supreme Brougham in The 90's...92 Or 93...His had the 350..And Had Some GET UP AND GO...Very Nice car It was..so is yours!! Take care of it man! these were wonderful cars
I completely agree. This part is my opinion however; old American cars look good in great or terrible condition. As show pieces or rolling battering rams.
What makes these cars live are their frames, soft but overbuilt suspensions and simple technology. Oh, and the 5-mph steel bumpers help too.
I like this car! Cool! As i told you before i have the same car but with the 350 DX diesel engine. My one is black mate. The Olds 1978 Delta 88 is one of the nicest car from Oldsmobile.
your lucky they dont make cars like that anymore it cost to much money they say new cars are safer my ass the auto companies are trying to save money and sell you a new car pile of shit just ask anyone with a brain these days say old cars are better construction and more power burn a little bit more fuel but how many people can fit in the car hmm 7 people lol and 3 in the trunk with bagage lmao see how fucked up the government is they work with all the auto companies and banks to screw us period
The real tanks are before 1977 for GM which are much bigger cars. This is still a nice car and far better than the tiny egg shaped low quality cars they make now.
Thanks for the memories. My father gave me his '79 Delta88 just like that when I was 17. It was silver w/red fake leather seats. Olds 350 w/4BBL. Had the F41 suspension package like yours, posi and all. AM/FM 8-track and it had the gauage cluster. Big back seat for when your girlfriend was with you. it was a 3.08 axle ratio. I miss it.
Yes, but we are not so easy to register a car like this, because a lot of restrictions by the government. The only options such as car registration documents are veterans.
awesome winter beater car.

I agree actually. I really like the '76 Delta and the '76 Impala. The mid 70s Catalina is neat too, but I'm not a big Pontiac V8 guy.
The downsized platforms are just 'light' tanks!

1966caprice 2 years ago
It was sad to see that thing get destroyed, but the Cheviac and the New Yorker are far better cars.
I'd love to take that Mopar off his hands, any New Yorker or Imperial from 1970-1979 is a rare beast!
CorvusCasull 2 years ago
totally, 75 new yorkers are my favorite 70's mopar. but my all time favorite car is the 66 chevy caprice
