They behaved like flares from the time they lit up in succession, to the gradual burnout of each. So, the official explanation does seem most likely. Darn, I thought we had a real siting with Phoenix, but it does appear after all they were just flares and taken out of context, it seems the hopes of people have driven a myth about this.

There are 6 videos of 10 PM flare drop. Yes, it was a flare drop. It was an intentional diversion by the military to keep attention on one area of the sky and to establish a cover for the sightings that took place at 8 PM. There were 2 events that took place in Phoenix on March 13, 1997. A massive UFO flyover at 8 PM and a diversionary flare drop at 10 PM behind the Estrella Mountain Range.

74Sire - they did try to sort this out. Jets were scrambled from Luke Air Force Base but they could not catch the UFOs, they just disappeared when the jets got close. There are a few credible witnesses to this.

I put this question: do flares fly across an entire state? No they do not! Maybe some flares were dropped but it was a smokescreen by the military to divert attention from the morphing V shaped craft(s).

A year or two ago, my bro and i were at a QuikTrip in Chandler. The sky flashed for a moment directly over us followed by an amazingly loud boom or explosion in the sky. A man next to us heard and witnessed it to but other people in the gas station acted as if it didn't happen or anything,weird. But then after the explosion noise we were driving home and we saw 3 HUGE lights that disapeared I looked on Wikipedia and I see that this event is listed as a ufo sighting! Again - the flare theory is pure cover-up.  I witnessed the same lights the three previous nights. The director of MUFON was on my balcony at 9:30 that night because I invited him to witness the lights for the fourth night in a row. Read my book at grounding the lights then tell me these were flares.

This is not true. Aircraft can drop immuniation rounds with parachutes. They look exactly like this since I've seen them used many times first hand. From a distance they appear to hover but they are actually falling ever so slowly for 10 to 15 minutes and then they burn out.

I was a witness to the Phoenix lights however it looked nothing like this. What I saw was a HUGE V-shaped object moving very slowly. The lights never changed they just stayed in formation.

from my perspective, yes. It was huge. I remember while I was standing in my back yard looking up it seemed like at least a couple football fields big. It moved without a sound. You are correct their was a large triangular black craft moving through the area. Likely scenario is black project craft being used in an exercise to see how well it works. The flares you see are from a conventional aircraft that is probably looking for the mystery craft you are talking about. Most folks now believe the strange triangular craft was the darkstar project which was a smaller version of the B-2 stealth bomber that is unmanned and has noice cancellation systems so it can fly very low

This has been proven to be aerial flares. They are in a line as released by the plane, slowly descending as would flares. They disappear behind the mountains later on. UFO's don't behave this way, the voice in the video comments how they are slowly dropping.

Search YouTube for, "Phoenix lights are shown to be behind the mountains" This one clears up many myths surrounding the sighting, even Governor Fife Symington said the 10:00 pm Phoenix sightings were flares, and NOT what he saw earlier that night around 9:20pm. This sighting can easily be cleared up by using Google to find out who saw what when, but everyone is perpetuating the misconception that the flares were a UFO. The real UFO was seen by Symington earlier that night, but NOT in Phoenix!
