  • if only winters, williams and conway would sit down and have a discussion. i would be laughing for a week. jonathon, robin and tim are the 3 greatest comics in history for my money

  • This gem of a man is still alive and doing more than kicking --- check out his website! ... I wonder what he thinks of the so called "comedians" of this era??

  • so how old is...lol

  • I was feeling a little down -- not anymore my sides hurt from laughing-- thank you Johnathan Winters

    from, Bev

  • capt sully at the office x-mas party after a couple of six-packs..................

  • Classy act. A rare treat compared to today's comic venues.

  • i love that guy.

  • i luv Jonathan Winters! he was so funny. one of the best at improv!

  • what would you do if a woman on your plane was having a baby?

oh i dont know, probably circle around a bit and hope she got over it.

Kids take note, this is TRUE comedy.

  • @TheBalzy Brush my teeth and chew the imbilical cord off carefuly!

  • The best, always was, always will be.

  • To make someone laugh as hard as Jonathan Winters makes me laugh every time is like a gift. There is no one better.

  • About half way through, "Why did you fly 600 miles past the destination?" Back then it was funny, now it just happens.

  • well, well there is so much brilliant comedic havoc in here, one would love to quote a line, but there is so much going on for mere mortals to keep up!

  • "It means nothing to me. I haven't been able to get one around me for years" LOL... This is great!

  • "I would think I would circle for an hour, and hope she got over it" LOL He is absolutely hysterical. One of the best... Thanks for posting!

  • Brilliant! No peer!

  • Back in the early 1960s Winters used to cut LP records with his comedy routines and I'd play them and laugh for hours. He's a comic genius if ever there was one. This sketch here was probably pure improvisation on live television, as that was what he liked doing most.

  • they are asking him tough improv questions and he is blowing them away... absolutely brilliant.

  • Robin Williams stole his entire act--and poorly, I might add--from Mr. Winters. I was surprised to hear that they are friends. It just goes to show that Mr. Winters is a class act.

  • Robin and Jonathan have been friends for decades. WIlliams has cited Jonathan Winters as his greatest influence- In fact, he used to appear on Mork and Mindy as a relative of Mork.

  • Jonathan was Mork and Mindy's son who aged backwards.

  • From what I read, it was Robin who rallied and championed Jonathan Winters participation on the show given how much of an influence he was on Robin. This skit, specifically, illustrates Jonathan's influence over Robin...although I wouldn't go so far to say Robin stole Jonathan's entire act. Almost anyone who likes improv style comedy and ad-libbing follow a similar pattern. Also, Robin branched out into dramatic acting...and became equally successful doing comedy and drama.

  • I couldn't agree with you more. My sentiments exactly.

  • He really is the root of everything we think of as "funny" today, isn't he? I do believe he's the line of demarcation: Pre-Winters humor (which I also love), and Post-Winters humor (SNL, SCTV, Kids in the Hall, Whose Line, etc.) really says it all, doesn't it?

  • @tuxguys Good point, and I think your in many ways correct. His impact and influence on stand-ups was profound, to say the least. His ability to make sounds was groundbreaking.

  • the one and only

  • gotta love this man. mammas frikassied fried fritters

  • the first time I ever saw JW was when I was seven and I was immediately captivated. I knew at that moment that whatever I did in life would have to include comedy. It was one of those defining moments we all have at one point in our lives that never leaves us. It was like JW introduced me to myself.

  • One of the best! Who says you gotta have vulgarity in standup comedy to make people laugh! There weren't too comedians many like Winters.

  • @kboyzrock A good comedian does not have to use vulgarity to be funny. Well said.

  • @kboyzrock NO ONE said you do, it's only people who are afraid of LANGUAGE, ANY language, WHO make this comparison, it's totally irrelevant. We have BRILLIANT comedians who don't curse and equally brilliant comedians who do. Are you trying to say that George Carlin isn't a comedic genius ? It's not his use of BAD language that makes him great, it's his use of LANGUAGE that does.

  • @kboyzrock and still aren't to this day.

  • one of the best

  • Just like my first interview...

  • Does anyone know the Season / Episode of Mork and Mindy which features Jonathan Winters?

  • Simply A Legend - Great Post.

  • Mr. Winters is very much with us and this proves that God wants us to laugh. What a career he has had, the only one close is Newhart. See him in Mad mad world, tearing up the gas station, and the line about ethel merman if she was the star of a horror movie he would believe it. God bless him and thanks for all the laughs.

  • Pure genius. Find someone today that could do this.

  • Jonathan Winters was never profane in public like the cokehead Robin is... see him on Kimmel the other night? CHEAP SHOTS!!

  • Should be on Mount Rushmore..JW is the Buddha of comedy. One of the best there is..timeless and a true original.

  • He was such a gifted comedian. I really miss him!

    Jeannemarie

  • ...he's still alive.

  • Wow! I didn't realize that! How embarassing! But, I am GLAD the MAN is still witih us.

Wish I could start my day with a little Jonathan Winters every morning. (Husband, take no offense. I didn't meant it THAT way!)

  • If you put "Winters Archive of American Television" in a search engine, you'll find a 3-5 hour interview with Winters about his career, focusing particularly on his television career. It's LOL funny in several places and also quite revealing. If he's telling the truth, his parents treated him horribly and he's still bitter about it.

  • My all time favorite comic!

  • JW used to be on Mork and Mindy (Robin Williams). Mork's child I think. Brilliant.

  • u r right about him being mork & mindy's child. I think his name was Merth.

  • Yeah. Merth or Mirth from Earth, as opposed to Mork from Ork. Nannu nannu. I liked the part where Mork threw fresh eggs in the air, saying 'you're free, fly away'. JW was a great character in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

  • Robin William's idol! I love Jonathan Winters! My dad has a bunch of his comedy albums. And I totally agree with GOOTENAGEN.

  • I love Jonatan Winters' humor- very comparable with Robin Williams. We need all the humor we can get these days.

  • Legend

  • the greatest comic of all time

  • Gootenagen...it is your imagination because modern humor is ALL those things!...Winters rules!

  • Is it my imagination, or is J.W. truly one of the comic greats? Modern humor is either vulger, cynical, mean spirited or a losers swipe at the right.

  • You are right on target, modern humor is low class and mean spirited. Winters is one of the comic greats for sure.

  • You should see and hear his Maudie Frickert!

  • He was the original, the first comic genius.

  • he was great

  • He's not dead.

  • brilliant!

  • DId you notice? Not a single cuss word. This is comedy. No 'F' this or "F" that. Profanity is not funny. =Stefan=

  • f*@k ya it is

  • Mr. Winters is brilliant.

  • Now this is a commedian . . . truly a genius at his craft . . . thanks for this gem of a clip.

  • Comic genius.
