I heard this one in a club - De Effenaar, Eindhoven, Holland, 90s - and I went berserk !!! A couple of days later I bought Jazzdance Classics Vol. 1 (on Luv N' Haight Records) & the first cut on the album was this track . . . Phenomenal !
This track fantastic! Soul jazz when it's best!! Great musicians. Do you have the rest of album? If so, I would love if you could upload it - It's impossible to find the record anywhere..
neck snapping funk! the drums snap like none other on this cut! kickin myself in the ass when sold an OG copy of it about a year ago, gunna be a bitch tryin to cop another one
Rusty was truly a giant of the "Bop" jazz era. He probably intoduced the funk in jazz. Proud to be from the same town, Columbus, Ohio. Only a few know that Nancy Wilson got her start with him and organist, Hank Marr. They were billiant!.
thanks for your comment. Must be a good pub. If you like this you might wanna check out his other LP's "Wild Fire" and particularly "Friday night funk for Saturday night Brothers" NOTHING IMO tops Fire Eater though!
Thans for your comment. He's maybe not quite up there with the greatest of the greats because he wasn't really seen as an innovator. But for sheer adrenalin, muscle, grit, fire and all the rest of it, he sure was the greatest!!
I've never heard a bad Rusty cut, His r&b and jazz 45s and lps from the 1950s on Dot or his material from the 1960s playing with b3 player Hank Marr on Federal 45s or King lps are all great too! Rusty discovered Nancy Wilson too!
so nice!

What a fucking jam! I love Rusty's sax, but the organist steals the show on this track. Hats off to Idris for his awesome drumming as well.

I just found Rusty bryant. he is a great player it is a real shame he isnt more well known cause he should be a common name like miles or parker.
